I think it actually looks kind of cool. I'm not sure if this is a USPCC deck or not though, the goal seems kind of low to me if it is.

Kinda have a Tron feel to them.  I like them.

So similar to the front of a Bicycle tuckbox.. why not make it Bicycle.

Looks like it isn't made by USPCC. That is what I came up with after reading the text.
Thanks!

Here's the quote:

Stock and Size

This deck will consist of 56 cards manufactured on Official Casino stock card paper using the same processes as the world's leading playing cards. Printed in the official Poker card size of 2.5 x 3.5. Made in the USA.

I am not sure that sounds like USPCC. But hopefully it will be.
Thanks!

I sent them a message about it with the "ask a question" button on Kickstarter.  I'll let you guys know what they say.

Hopefully it's USPCC

I made an inquiry with "4pm Design" - we'll see what they reply to me.  I like the Tron vibe to it, but the faces are a little too boring - at least on the courts.  They could be done to better match the rest of the deck.

I really like the look of this deck! The first thing that came to mind was Tron.
I like the pips a lot and the colors really pop which is nice but the court cards don't look that great. If these are USPCC, I will definitely be getting them.

EDIT: Since the court cards are standard bicycle design, does that mean it is USPCC?

I agree. I like them very much,  they did remind me of Tron as well and the court cards could use a little more work. It would be great if they are made by USPCC.
Thanks!

Great minds think alike  ;) I immediately thought of these as a mixture between Tron, Sentinels, and Native art. I'm not a huge fan of the backs, but the faces make this totally worth it.

Sadly, this is not going to be a USPCC deck. They were initially going through USPCC but are now going through a local company in New Jersey called Admagic. They say the quality is very good... but I've never heard of this place...

They wrote me back as well

"They were originally intending to be, however we had some issues during its development phase so we ending up going with a local printing company in New Jersey without losing the quality we are looking for."

They are for ads not making playing cards. It is apples and oranges.

Ah, that's disappointing. Kind of odd the box looks like it was designed to look like a Bicycle deck if it's not USPCC. I think I'm going to have to pass on this one.

Legally he can't go to that company and print those images he posted on the Kickstarter page. Those images (i.e. court card designs and the designs on the tuck case) are exclusive properties of uspcc. He either has to completely change the deck or print with uspcc.

Actually I just spoke with the company. Apparently uspcc ignored there emails and never responded back. This is the reason they picked the other company. Uspcc just contacted them back today so hopefully everything works out. The company does indeed want to print with uspcc so lets hope that happens!

Actually, the faces look pretty generic.  There's enough prior art that they could fight it if USPC made a stink.  As long as the "specials" were adequately different (Ace of Spades, jokers, box art, card back) USPC wouldn't have much legal ground to stand on.  It's akin to copyrighting a font (which courts view as trying to copyright the alphabet), or patenting the spoon.  The only way they defend their current, classic art such as the Bicycle Rider Back or the Tally Ho Ace of Spades is based on trademark law, since the copyright on most of that ran out many years ago.  Generic playing card faces such as these are very difficult to defend in court as being the property of any one company or another since so many have used them over the years.

Remember the whole "can't alter the backs" thing with the Rider Back?  They're trying to strengthen their legal ownership of the design as a trademark.  As a copyrighted design, anyone could legally copy, alter and do with the Rider Back what they wanted to due to the copyright being expired - but as a trademark, different rules apply.  So, USPC certainly won't let you alter the Rider Back anymore, and while I could try a third-party publisher, the legal ground for me to do so wouldn't be entirely stable - unless I could prove that they alter the design as they see fit, and thus you can't call it a true trademark.

At the least, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!  :))

EDT: Caught that last post.  IT would be nice to see this as a USPC deck, since it's obvious from the design elements that's what these guys were aiming for.

The box art does have Bicycle elements in it, though. Specifically the design around the spade, between "The Grid" and "Poker Playing Cards". That is specific to the Bicycle brand and couldn't be considered generic.
I'll only buy it if it does end up being produced by USPC.

I saw they posted on the Kickstarter that if they hit $10,000 it'll be printed by USPCC. With nearly two months to go and $1,700 raised so far they really shouldn't have any problems hitting that goal.

I might back it if it's USPCC deck too.
Their price is reasonable for USPCC company decks, not any cheap company's decks.

Yeah they sent me a private message about it...

"
Saturday Apr 28,  1:49am EDT  Because of the big demand we're receiving about the printing of The Grid, we made an update on our main site that we will be trying to get the USPCC for printing if we hit a goal of $10,000. So we're just informing everyone who was interested in the printing that it just may be printed by Bicycle.
Thank you for your support of the Grid!"

This is definitely one of the more complete projects out there which is great to see. This deck definitely has to be USPCC. I find it curious that they say USPCC ignored them...they have been nothing but responsive to me in every instance.

I'll ponder that for a few days but might back that one.
