I would have preferred seeing him stick with one art style or the other - this mix-and-match stuff doesn't look as good as a set and is a poor combination for a poker pair.  It's like the artist was indecisive about which way to go with it.

Agreed. The red deck is definitely my favorite out of the two. I was thinking about doing an Egyptian theme. Oh well.

Hey, nothing stops you from doing it BETTER!

And the indices are really odd - huge values, and double suit pips, one tiny and in-line, the other huge and off to the side.  So the options would be to either spread the cards wide or deal with the teeny pips.  Not every design needs to be 100% practical, but to make a design impractical for no good reason, no reason that actually improves the artistry in some way, is either just plain lazy or poor practice.

I don't mind the indices. I think they'll read well on the poker table and it's not that big of a lift to see what rank is there. The overall style of the decks is pretty nice in my opinion and I do mean both of them. Nice chunky pips on the number cards make me smile. I also like the card backs, while simple they're not bad at all. The tucks while simple are fun. All in all, I like these decks and I'm quite happy to be a backer here.

I don't mind the indices that much.

As a longtime poker player, though, what I won't do is play with a dark deck of almost any design, and certainly not these. The Jc and Qs (and even the Kd!) above have almost no significant contrast, especially if you're on a racetrack table near one of the ends. There's no immediate recognition even checking your hole cards where the cards are purposefully in shadow.

I like the similar, but different styles from one deck to the other though, and I've always been a fan of the scarabaeidae family. I'm down for a pair.
