  • What IS a Mook?
Hi,

I'm an amateur (read: want to be) card magician / collector from the UK.

I've been fascinated by card tricks and sleight-of-hand since I can remember, but was content to be an observer...

..until I had a multiple stroke shortly before Christmas.  My cognitive abilities were unaffected - fingers crossed - but I lost sensation / dexterity in my hands.

As part of my recovery regimen, I naturally had to give the ciggies up so had to find something to do with my hands (steady on, there...)

So I thought "Why not give this card manipulation a go?".

Since then, I have a total of 26 unique decks (I know, pathetic :D) and have mastered about 3 moves (also pathetic), but I'm getting there and having fun with it.

So it's nice to be here and I look forward to being here for years to come!

Welcome to the forum Mook  :D
Glad that card magic is something that can help your condition. What you have achieved so far is not pathetic at all, in fact that's a great achievement.

Hope you enjoy the forum, I'm sure you will learn more about cards here  :D

Welcome aboard, Mook.  There is absolutely nothing pathetic about a budding magician knowing three moves and having 26 decks.  You're new - three moves are three more than I knew when I started.  As far as the cards go, you really only need one deck...  :))   I know barely more moves than you do, but I perform once a month at a local hospital for the kids in the ER.  They love it and so do the parents.  So you're getting there - remember to have fun along the way!

There's a magician in the New York area who's known far and wide for his skills - as a plastic surgeon!  He took up magic to help keep his fingers limber for surgery.
