I'm digging into a box of playing cards purchased at an estate sale.

This is a shot of about half of the lot, spread out because I don't know what I'm looking at or looking for yet.

The reason we purchased was because of the box and this one deck of cards. They looked and felt amazing and figured there was some age and history.

These also look older and have very little info to base research.

Thank you in advance for any info. If more images are required, or if there is anything of interest in the first image, I would be happy to share what I can.

The deck is French from early 1900's - it is called Jeu de Louis XV. Louis XV deck. It is not uncommon to find in USA as clearly it was a popular import at the time. Quite beautiful and a keeper. Noticed a nice early wide Congress I think in your big pix!  The Excelsior is quite rare and is L29 in Hochman Encyclopedia of American Playing Cards. Nice lot.

Grimaud still produces the Louis XV. It's in France Cartes 2015 catalogue (page 69).
