Hey all,
I have a new deck design to show you guys and I'm really interested in what you got to say here.
It's something new..and different (I hope). Please take a close look at all cards, tuck and back.. Your feedback is greatly appreciated...
Thank you

Johnny

The design is simple but very intriguing.  I'm fond of it, really.

You don't need the Bicycle name to sell it.  It could stand on its own.  Consider using Expert PCC to do the printing.  You'll get great work, excellent quality and a very competitive price.

I do suggest you spell "PROFIL" as "PROFILE" instead.  And tweak the size of the indices just a bit - the values are huge compared to the index pips, and I'd suggest "boxing" them together.  Those are about the only change I could recommend.

The deck doesn't have the normal conventions in terms of court designs - but not every deck needs to conform to those design standard.  I think you have a really good deck here.

Don has the right of it (As always).  Really nice design here but the indices need some fine tuning.

Edit:  I especially like all of the subtle differences in the court cards, right down to the facial expressions.  I would definitely back this deck.

This design is actually pretty refreshing, mainly the courts. I applaud anyone that doesn't just recolor the standards. Here are a few things I would suggest:

1. Knock out the color behind all pips and indicies, as you do with the faces of the courts. This will make the spot cards much more readable and functional.

2. Widen the range of value between your foreground elements and background to help add depth and also readability of the images. Right now your values are so close the design "vibrates" and gets lost if you do a squint test. I desaturated the cards to show you the closeness of the values and what the values would look like if you pushed them further apart.

3. Same goes with the values of the green and red. They are complimentary colors so if the values are too close they will really visually vibrate as they do on the tuck when side by side.

Great start though lets see more.

Hi Whaam,
Looks like a really clean, fresh deck, love it, just two things I would suggest:
1. Larger pips in the corners.
2. Can the back be red/green design. Not sure why it has only red.
Awesome work, well done!

Thanks for your suggestions, very helpful indeed.
_Different shades of green, more variations really make the difference, background stays in the back...
_Also boxed K and small pip (maybe white box?)
_Pip with white might be better
_King and frame is lighter green too so it brings more depth overall

I tried to change green to a colder green, do you guys prefer that one?

I'll try to play with more shades of red (and maybe green if it'll work) on the back too, to make it even more complex..

Will do some small design changes on tuck too,...(not yet sure if I'll go with Profil or Profile, I spelled it wrong on purpose though :)

Please let me know if this changes work... Thanks so much

Johnny

White box for the index looks nice.  Make the pip match the ones on the card art - black and white instead of black and green.

I like the "purer" green rather than the colder one.

See, if you go with "Profil", you're going to have dozens if not hundreds of people scratching their heads and saying, "Hey, he misspelled that!"  So, only use the misspelling if you really like hundreds of people asking you via email if you know that you misspelled it...

This is actually a really cool idea. I love the design, but I'm not too big on the colors. I (personally) think the deck might work better if you went with a red and blue color scheme. It's a more familiar color set for decks of cards, and would blend traditional colors with a modern design. As it is, I think it looks sort of tacky. (Then again, red and green always remind me of Christmas.)

The court cards look fantastic, but the bodies all have uniform textures. I think changing sections of them up would be great for the deck. The joker's indice is also a bit-off putting. The way the word "Joker" is squashed into a small box looks kind of strange. A simple J or a star would work just as well, and look more natural.

Definitely go with "Profile". "Profil" sounds like a typo, even though it's intentional.

Love what you have so far! I can't wait to see the Ace of Spades!

I also was thinking red/blue combination is more traditional, but I don't mind the green.
Johnny, The top left is the best card IMO. With the white background it is easier to see what the card is, the muted green looks sad. Anyway nice work, I hope you do incorporate some green into the back, like some of the inner shapes, it would help to tie the whole deck together better.

Not bad, but is there a reason why this is not in the design/dev section?
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

I actually really like this deck, especially after seeing the rework of the pips.  The colors are vibrant and look really good in contrast of one another.  Its great to see all the little tweaks and how they wholly improve the look.  Can't wait to get my hands on the end result.

I liked where this was headed - any updates? The courts emerging from the sides instead of from the center out is one of the most refreshing things I've seen in card design in quite some time.
