If his English was a bit better we could understand for sure whether they are fake or not
Mystery is the basic appeal of magic. Once the secrets are known, the magician becomes a mere manipulator, an actor in a suspense drama which has little impact because the audience knows the ending in advance.

Hello, I am noticing your comments about the fake Wynns. I just purchased some brown Wynns which are about to arrive. Are there alot of fake Wynns being made. I think the guy I got them from is fine but now I am curious about these "fake" cards. How would one be able to tell?

You won't be able to tell from the box.
But if you touch the cards, you will know right away if it's a fake or not.
USPCC print cards in the way I never see from any others company.

Thank you for the reply. I hate to admit my naivety but I was not even thinking of counterfeit cards until I read this thread. Makes sense though, anything with value has fakes. With your info, I have handled enough USPCC cards to know the difference. I have some Grateful Dead cards I picked up as the dancing bears and steal your face look great. The cards are definitely not USPCC and feel like wet cardboard. If the difference is that noticeable it will not be hard to tell. I shall applaud you for the quick response my good man. :D

They don't even have to be hugely valuable for someone to want to counterfeit them.  I recently worked with someone at the USPC to help them track down a group that's been counterfeiting garden-variety Diamond Back Bees.  I think the same group also started to branch out into forging Uno decks as well, both basic and with licensed properties like Hannah Montana, Spider-Man, Dora the Explorer, etc.  Take a deck that sells for $3-4 in the local chain pharmacy, make convincing-enough looking knockoffs and sell them cheap as dirt to the local dollar store vendor who sells them for a buck a pack.  The quality is absolute crap, but what does the shop owner care?  Most people expect crap quality from a dollar store.  USPC isn't very happy about the situation.

BTW: these are cards from a casino, but they don't have Jumbo Index Tech-Art faces?  I can't recall the last time I saw standard index decks used in a casino that weren't made of plastic for the poker tables.  The paper cards are used on the blackjack and baccarat tables, and they're almost always Tech-Art or some variation thereof.  The Theory 11 Brown Wynns were Jumbo Index Tech-Art faces.

So T11 has a new video out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWEn339fi7I&feature=g-u&context=G2a8e602FUAAAAAAAAAA

and from 0:06 - 0:09 it looks like the girl is using the Purple Wynns.

I really can't see Theory11 using another company's deck in their video.. let alone fake decks.

So... do you think T11 will be releasing these?

There are other colors of the Wynn's out there - I've seen three with the solid color back and three with a Bee diamond-back pattern and the casino logo.  They're generally Jumbo Face Tech Art Indexes.

The video was an ad for one of the five new products T11 introduced, two of which were the two new decks.  The artist in question is Ekaterina Dobrokhotova, a Russian emigre to Canada specializing in card flourishing, but also known as a magician and fashion model.  Her website is ekaterinamagic.com and her YouTube channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/BaByCatXD/featured.  The product is her "PURE" DVD and download, all displaying cardistry by her with explanations of how to perform certain flourishes.

BTW: those original decks listed for sale were pulled by the seller - probably to avoid an investigation by Ebay into their products.  Anytime I see items for sale, particularly playing cards, from destinations like Hong Kong or Guangzhou, red flags wave in front of my eyes.  Most of the world's counterfeit cards come from China.

Well the seller now has the 3 decks under 1 single auction. The purple cards actually have purple pips.

I've always heard them called Violet Wynns, rather than Blue Wynns. Maybe that's why; because they look more purple than blue?

YEah, I'm pretty sure the "blue" wynns are a deep purple-ish blue, hence the double name. Actually, pure primary blue is often mistaken for purple...

These decks are as fake as the day is long!

First of all, they're SMOOTH finish.  The real Wynn's weren't Ivory finish.  [EDIT: they appear textured in the stills, smooth in the handling video.]

Second of all, they aren't jumbo faces with Tech Art indexes.  It's a rare paper casino deck these days that isn't.

Third, no casino, least of all Wynn's, is going to use pale violet for its pips in place of red (or black).  The reason they use crimson instead of bright red is because the video cameras have a harder time spotting the lighter shade.  They wouldn't replace either color with a lighter shade.  Gamblers aren't exactly fond of whacky innovations to start with; crazy colors are a magician's thing and a card collector's thing, and that's what this forger went for when redesigning these decks.

Fourth, the seller actually admits that they handle poorly after being used for just a few hours.  Has anyone ever seen a deck of Bee casino cards handle poorly after just a few hours?!?  If anything, they handle BETTER because they've been broken in.  The brown Wynn's were so highly sought-after because they handled better than the other colors, but I never heard anything about the others handling poorly.

Stay away from this sale AND this seller.
