hello guys,

my name is michael, and i found out about this forum a while ago, though i have spent most of my time as a lurker.  :P i joined earlier this year, but i don't usually have much to say about things, as if i don't feel i really have anything of substance to contribute, i'd rather just read. i come here to find out all the recent info, and because most of the people here are kind, have similar interests, and a sense of humor.

i have been to "other" boards where the main focus seems to be on the interests of a select group, and there is no tolerance for anyone with a differing opinion. :-\ this is an ugly way to run a forum meant to draw those interested in cards/magic/XCM, etc... when i'm here, i rarely see huge conflict, and things are in the sections they belong (even if they have to be moved there   ???). here in charlotte, i haven't found hardly anyone who has such an interest in cards as we do here on this site, and that is depressing, but at least i can find it here, with you guys.  :D

when i started out, i was very into learning magic, but i've realized i want to leave the mystery in it, so i continue to be amazed by the awesome tricks i see. i have still retained a love for cards, however, to go along with all my other interests, which mainly revolve around creating unique, mostly abstract, works of art, and music composition. i also find i am a collecting addict, and cards have fit right in. i am really having a hard time with money trying to keep up, even just from kickstarter. :mindf-ck: it does help that so many of the "designs" are sub-par, which saves me a lot of mony.  ;)  it kills me when i see "designers" of failure decks (sometimes repeated failures, where advice was given and ignored), coming on here to give skewed opinions of other, very often successful, decks. amazing enough, though, most times they aren't told "go f**k yourselves. >:(".

lastly, i love coming here because i like the way the majority of the people here conduct themselves, including (usually) the conduct of the owner. ;)  i do have many designs i have considered working on, that could really go somewhere, and if ever a day comes when i feel i have the resources i need to get one done, i will come here to get opinions i know i can trust. and a big hello to everyone, btw, i'm sorry it took me so long to say "hi". i am also sorry, btw, for the long intro, i just wanted you guys to know a little about who is posting under this name. thanks for everyone's time! i'll try to post more often, and contribute what i can.  :)

Hey, Michael - congrats on graduating from lurker to participant!  :))

We generally try to be accepting and friendly around here.  If it's not fun, why bother, right?  The owner, "alex." keeps the place running while Curt and I help with all the rearranging of mislaid posts and spammers.  I prefer a more orderly way to find what I'm looking for and I assume most other people do as well.

I'd be surprised if somewhere in the Charlotte area you wouldn't find a magician - and many magicians are collectors of playing cards.  But if you don't, don't sweat it - card collecting is a small hobby, has been all along.

As far as enjoying the mystery, when a trick is performed well, I mean REALLY well, it doesn't matter if I know the secret.  It's still holds a sense of wonder for me.  I'm able to both appreciate the artistry in the mechanics of the trick as well as the wonder of how it looks to the spectator.

Welcome to the boards and let us know if you need anything.
