Anyone else want to weigh in on the discussion as to whether "linoid" is a marketing scam and just another way of saying "air-cushion" do you think there is no difference between the USPCC decks? Comment on this video and let your voice be heard.

This question has been asked and answered here already.  Look at the "Fact or Fiction" sticky topic in the Plethora.

Short answer: there may have been a separate finish years ago, but today all the standard USPC brands get the same coating applied with the only difference being whether the paper is embossed (Air Cushion, Linoid, Cambric, Linen) or not (Ivory, Smooth).  The embossing was once done with cloth rollers in the coating itself, whereas today it's done with metal rollers into the paper.  The names are retained for marketing purposes.

There are only two exceptions.

Mavericks - which USPC contracts out to a Chinese printer.

Decks like the Bicycle Archangels or the Bicycle Eco Edition, which use a starch-based finish on 100% recycled paper colored with vegetable-based inks.

So Linoid is real, and exclusive to Tally-Hos but mostly applies to the surface, as Lee Asher explains

Quote
The Linoid finish is identifiable by the waffle-shaped impressions on the backs of the cards. These small squares pressed into each card act as tiny air pockets causing one card to actually float on another.

You don't have to tell me what Lee wrote on his website - I know him personally, met him in Toronto last year.  We had this discussion.  If you really read his description, it could just as easily be about Air Cushion or Cambric decks.  USPC carefully protects that information - they don't want the average Joe knowing about the coating being the same on all of their cards.  It's why he wrote what he wrote - it's true, but doesn't tell the entire truth.

Well there has to be SOME differences otherwise you would have rated air-cushion on par with Linoid in your own post, correct?

In terms of quality, giving a totally subjective opinion, I'd rate them thusly, least good to best:
Smooth (except Aladdin)
Ivory
Air-Cushion
Aladdin Smooth
Cambric/Linoid/Air-Flow (3-way tie)
Magic/Performance/Premium (3 names for the same thing)

You obviously didn't finish reading the topic.  The quote was from 2011 - I wrote again about a year later, when I was privy to more info after making friends with people that possess first-hand info about what USPC does and doesn't offer.  Keep reading, it gets better...
