Alright everyone heres how it works. There is a list of categories and you vote on what deck you think goes with that category. The deck has to of been released from December 1st 2011 to December 1st 2012, if your deck wasn't released between those 2 dates moonexe will yell at you and call you an idiot :P.

*If you have a deck on the market you CANNOT vote for it. EX Paul Carpenter cannot vote for aurum or tendril for the ANY category*

No i dont, thats one of those things that there is just way to many to make a complete list of them. You can always check the old NDR posts and find a bunch of decks released in 2012.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

Why, do you know of any big deck releases coming between now and year's end?  All I can think of is the Virts deck and the last Blades deck plus another non-Blades deck, both from De'vo.  All the other companies appear to have shot their wad already.

Best side product released alongside a deck: THC Altrusium shirt

Let me guess - you wrote this around 4:20?  'Cause it looks like it was 4:20 SOMEWHERE at the time...  :))

If by usually you mean we did it in January for the first time last year, yes we did. I changed to to December 1st because as Don said, we won't BEE seeing many releases in December.

Just remember though its deck RELEASED in 2012. So if you bought a red artifice in 2012 it wouldn't count :P

Oh, the Artifice face, the basic version, is a great face.  But the Purple version has "black pips" that look more purple and "red"/purple pips that look more black.  It's a pain in the ass for solitaire games and I can't imagine it being very useful to poker players or magicians - who needs pips with confusingly blended colors?  I can see the decision making process in my head...  "OK, so we're making the black pips purple and black, and we're making the red pips...black and purple?  GREAT!"  It's a face that cardists and collectors who don't play with or open their cards would love, but not me.

As far as the overall category - I think John picks that based on the number of votes each deck gets in their respective categories.  I forget what the Academy rules are for vote-counting and picking the Best Pict...I mean, Deck...  :))

well I open quite a bit of my cards, and I thought they looked really cool. It can be confusing if you're trying to quickly distinguish between cards, but just based on looks alone it was interesting and something that I don't think I've seen done quite like that before. I gave it points for originality and because it looks nice, and I'm all for new ideas in designing cards. Even though I agree with what you said, I don't think it's enough to give worst faces of the year or anywhere close to that!

That's your opinion.  I respectfully disagree.  For me, besides looking good, a deck has to be practical and easily used/recognized by an audience.  I wouldn't pull out the Purple Artifice deck because the pip coloring is just too confusing.  I need cards to be quickly distinguished by spectators - they shouldn't have to think too hard to determine what suit a card is.  Most magic works because people don't think too hard!

Simply put, if I have trouble using it in a game of solitaire, I won't use it in magic.

And none of that even touches on the border issue.  But that's an argument that's been hashed out over and over, flogged to death and the corpse flogged into itty-bitty pieces...

just curious does the v6 trailer by the virts count as v7 trailer? i know v7 is a huge let down(probably gonna sweep most of the worst categorical), but i freaking love the trailer for v6.

Nope, reprints don't count for DOTY. Neither do trailers released in 2012 for decks released in 2011 and before.

The Series B decks are actually different from the Series A.  They reverted back to the Split Spades Lions joker and Aos, plus the marking system was upgraded to allow for determining suit.  You could count them as a 2012 release rather than a reprint.

Technically, those decks aren't reprints - they're all Version 7.  They are sufficiently different from the originals that they wouldn't qualify as reprints.  The originals had custom, simplified courts and Perfect Pips, while Version 7 decks all use USPC standard faces and pips.  The only things that are the same would be the backs - but if the fronts don't match, it's not a reprint.  At least in my mind, anyway.

There is alot of confusion behind that set, one day the twins are saying each deck is individual and is a reprint and the next day they are saying v7 is the box. I'm pretty sure there opinion changes when the wind blows, not sure though ill have to double check :P.

Need Ruling on Kickstarter Projects, are you going by Project Close date or Deck Shipping date?

Also you should add a Best/Worst New Artist Deck catagory.

The date the deck is "shat out", a.k.a. the release date.  You could call it the date that retailers are carrying it online, since they usually get drop shipments before the individual pledges get into people's hands.
