You'd be stunned how many retailers are gearing up for Christmas by August...  It's reached the point now that Thanksgiving is being renamed "pre-Christmas", and Halloween is now "scarier pre-pre-Christmas"...  They're not everywhere, but I've seen retailers putting out Christmas displays in late August, now known as "pre-pre-pre-Christmas season"...the cooler kids call it "pre-Christmas cubed"...
