... The discourse seems just fine to me. I assume you mean UC and if you do how could you ever get the 2 confused :P. Anyway to stay on topic if you mean UC i would think within the next week.

Did someone forget to read the only message on the whole page?

Hopefully it's exchanging to something better. I'd hate to see that forum go.

UC is kind of useless outside of selling stuff on. It's completely void of any new features or content and seems to get worse and worse with time.

A bit harsh.

UC has lost some of it's luster, but helped build the playing cards community.  I hope it returns to it's former glory

Hey, I used to love it, and I think I am the top poster on the site.

The problem with a website with no dedicated staff is that it gets stale. The Playing Cards section devolved into a whole bunch of sales threads. The Cardistry section became thread after thread of debates and flame wars. The media section is terrible now (I am not sure why they took down their old portal for videos).

Of course, the off-topic chat board is completely dead.

And you can't forget the constant bots posting porn and pill advertisements.

UC used to be fantastic, but now it's a giant dump. I wish the fantastic people still posting there and not anywhere else would make the switch to here. I think we all try to make this place as unbias as possible and very active and fresh.  :)

We all know by heart UC is falling apart, that's obvious. But I don't think we should regard it as a giant dump with such an attitude.
It's helped us grow, the community.

Do be reminded that the success of this forum and many products (including the Vortex deck, and the rise of many kickstarter projects) began there. We would've have reached and become what we've became today if it wasn't for its contribution. You ought to give it credibility.

Well, the actual website itself is nothing, it's a forum that isn't responsible for anything. The community is what drove all the positive aspects, not the functionality.

Now, we can divide the community into two parts. Part one is the staff, part two are the members. I have always thanked the members of UC for helping my project grow, and most of those members are now here. The UC community does a lot of great things, but most of that community has diminished, came to the Discourse, or barely posts at all. This is only natural when a site begins to die.

The success of this forum definitely didn't come from UC. Most of the founding members here, if not all, had little or nothing to do with that site. When I posted the forum on UC asking for help, most people ignored it, and a few people mocked me. It wasn't until we became super active did the other people start coming by.

During my stay there, I remember a few different people trying to start a forum to replace UC. Everyone complained about how terrible it was, and they still do.

UC was awesome in its prime, and the people did and still do a lot of great things. However, sites die and fade away. I've seen forums much greater and larger than UC become nothing. That doesn't make their history bad, it just means it's time to move on.

If I were the owner, I would shut it down and make it like Decknique, a database of posts, and redirect people to the forums that actually have a thriving community, rather than beating a dead horse. I guess I could be bias since I own this place, but I don't profit from more members here. I think this is more your guys' community than it is mine or any of the staff's. Every feature is built around you guys, and I think that's what ultimately drives this place forward even in my absence.

They've been exchanging servers for nearly a week now.  It's looking less and less likely by the day - though it isn't impossible.  They've certainly lost whatever momentum they may have had and a good number of people who were there and "defected" to other forums may never return.

I never had an account on United Cardists, but it's a shame that the site seems to be closing down. Even if it was going downhill it still had a useful archive of messages that often come up in Google searches, and searching within the forum itself. I certainly found out a lot just from being directed there from Google.

I've been seeing UC a lot but I never really had that need to sign up because its too big a community and getting to know and mingle with members would be a bit difficult.

I used to be in this other forum a little similar to UC but a local one (im not going to say which group it is) but yeah, it used to be a great place until forum politic and group politics kicked in. Then the whole server thing too, they transferred countless of times and most times the boards exceed the bandwidth.... i mean like WTF???!!!! after about the nth time, and other sh*t happened too... I just got fed up with GREAT BIG groups/forums.

When I saw Aethercards from Kensei, I saw that its more or less the same people posting on all the boards. What more is that everything is accessible... there is no ABSURD ranking system.... the kind where only a certain rank of people can access so-and-so boards/threads.... **sigh**

I saw that UC had a similar thing/vibe as that "other" forum I was in.... so I decided not to join there.

anyway, I love the discourse because it is very straightforward like the members and the staff who run it. Its simple, easy to use and has a great environment.

So kudos to Alex, PEUAN, victoria and etc...

ps. sorry if I vented there.... >.>.....

cheers
