Hey guys.
I was just thinking, it seems quite a few of us seem to have Skype accounts. So, I thought it would be fun to have a Discourse Skype group chat for us all to chat in.
So, if you like the sound of that, then feel free to leave your username in a reply or a PM to me, and I'll add you to the group!
I think it'd be a great way for us to all get to know each other a bit more.

I think it'd be better if we make a tinychat room ... does skype allow group chat? If so Im going to get mine back and add you guys. but a tinychat room is very convenient.

We do have a tinychat room created by John - Evan and I are moderators, and I think Kanped might be as well. The one we use now is PlayingCardChat.

The only issue with tinychat is that we have to all agree in advance on an ideal time to get online. Skype offers the option of spontaneity - and yes, it does allow group video calls.

Haha, don't count on me to encourage you for the tweeting though! I've never been a fan of Twitter.

Skype really is a great communication tool, though. Buggy at times, but it has awesome features.
Besides, tinychat can make my whole browser freeze and crash my flash plugin on a bad day... So as far as bugs are concerned, everything has its bad points.

I thought you had to pay for group video calls on skype. Last I checked (which was a couple of months ago) it was part of the premium service.

That could have changed since then though.

As far as I know, the only thing that isn't free is skype-to-phone calls. I think video calls are premium-only on smartphones as well, but not on a computer.

Okay cool! I tried to do a three way video chat with some friends who are gone at university and it wouldn't let us because it was a "premium membership" only type of deal. I'll have to try that again with them now

Um, I just googled it to make sure, and here's what I found...

At least one person on the call needs Skype Premium or a group video subscription from Skype Manager.
one-to-one video calls are free for sure, I've used that many times, and group voice as well, but for group video at least one person in the call would need to have a premium account.

Still, group chat, even if text-only or voice, could be interesting. Not to mention the spontaneous one-to-one conversations at any time, something tinychat doesn't allow.

On of the good points of tinychat is the ability to watch youtube videos all at the same time, which can be quite fun. Ideally, we should use both services depending on the needs of the moment.

I was actually about to suggest this. The great thing is that Skype offers a simple, quick and easy way of sharing files to the whole group.

I was thinking about starting a skupe thread but I made a search first just in case it was already posted. Which it was so HOORAH for searching for topics before posting!

Anyway.
