So the Friars deck is BMA?  If I knew when AMA began, I might have given you a better answer...

Aviators are both old and still around - the brand's about 90 years old.  That has a fairly simple box - though I'll grant not as simple as the Dose deck.

I've seen 99-cent store decks that don't have more than a face card on the front and back and some simple descriptions on the edges, like "PLAYING CARDS" or "PLASTIC COATED" (even when they aren't).  But still, not as simple.

A ha!  A KEM box!  That's very simple - all black with a raised KEM logo, and little else.

Ah there they come. So that makes it 3 out of 9 BBM decks. 6 more to go.

Edit: Was the foiled tuckbox of Dead Eyes released already? That would make it 4 out of 9, and 5 more to go.

Is there any real point to the foil boxes? Besides the Dose's they all see to be the same deck...is it just for the people who missed the original releases?

Really it's just their trick of ripped us off and gaining profits, while ruining their reputation (if they had any to begin with). The Dose deck has been altered. The original one was a one-way back, and this foiled tuckcase edition (Redux Edition as they call it) is two-way back (or possibly a subtle one-way back).

As for the Karnival Assassin, I can't recall if there was any changes to the design. I believe it's simply the tuckcase that's changed from the original release.

Yes, they sold out of the original products and are now re-releasing them with fancy boxes for the same price and we are under no pressure whatsoever to by them!

Certainly is 'their trick of ripped us off and gaining profits', as the say in non-English speaking areas.  1) How is paying the same price for a better version of a previously unavailable product a rip off? 2) What's wrong with a company making money?

I wouldn't say it's necessarily a better version. There's nothing much on the design that has been changed, and the first edition is actually still available over the web if you really tried hard searching for them.

There's nothing wrong with a company making money, but like X11, re-releasing another product, calling it a separate version pisses their customers off. They'd be better off re-printing the same product and just say it's a 2nd run.

OK, it was a cheap shot mostly for my own amusement, sorry about that.  Everyone makes typos, hopefully we can all have a snide chuckle when it happens.

I think it's a valid point, though, that while you can still buy this stuff online, you can't buy it from them so they're no longer profiting from the products.  I don't see the problem with snazzing it up a bit rather than just doing another run (particularly since it costs the same to buy); everyone knows exactly what they're getting and the quality of the product is good.  I think describing it as a rip-off is indefensible.

No worries.

True on their point of view, but it wouldn't make much of a difference to us as purchasers. Maybe it's because I'm a collector, I wouldn't get another one of the same decks if it was just a second run unless there're significant changes (i.e. the runs of black tiger). But with the foiled tuckcase, we'd have to pull out the wallets and pay for another deck without much alternations. Rip-off could be a little exaggerating, but I really don't think it's worth the money.

Look at it this way, guys - weren't most if not nearly all of the Karnival decks made when USPC was still in shakedown mode at the Erlanger factory?  Perhaps the designs are the same but the quality is somewhat better as a result of being made more recently, now that Erlanger decks are as good as if not better than most Cincinnati decks before the move?

If nothing else, it gives new collectors a chance to get the decks in a shiny box, and old collectors who own the v1 decks a chance to either ignore them or give in to the "gotta-get-em-all" mentality.  Nothing wrong with that.

If you don't like the shiny box, don't like the idea of a v2 in tuck box only, DON'T BUY THEM.  It's simple.  BBM is not holding a gun to your head, are they?  (Are they?!?!?)  :))

The foil tuck case looks pretty awesome! I don't think I will be picking these up unless my local magic shop gets them. (they had the firsts Dose decks)

I would do the same, but any money saved on shipping and handling usually ends up spent and then some on parking and/or bridge tolls.   :(   It's one of the reasons I'd love to open a shop of my own some day.  Not working overnights shifts would certainly be a plus!

BigBlindMedia writes:

"Folks - we have a small amount of new stock for the Karnival Dead Eyes, Dose Redux (with new back design) and Assassins. They are all housed in fancy new rainbow foil boxes. This clearly makes them sexy. Get in quick if you want some from this early batch. Woo!"

It seems like they have the new Dead Eyes boxes on their site as well...
