https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/srodelljr/banners-of-freedom-a-semiquincentennial-playing-card-setHey everyone. I wanted to share a project I?ve been working on for a while and finally feel ready to put out there. I designed a pair of commemorative playing card decks named Banners of Freedom for America's 250th anniversary, with paired Liberty and Justice editions.
It turned into something bigger than I expected. There are standard and gilded editions, plus a set of antiqued brass coins and a high-relief medallion that ties the whole thing together. I tried to approach it more like a cohesive collector set, with consistent design language across everything (cards, coins, packaging, etc.).
Pips and coins are based on the four flags from Revolutionary War and early American history: Gadsden (spades), Bedford (hearts), Betsy Ross (clubs), and the Pine Tree flag (diamonds). There are custom court cards dressed in era-appropriate clothing or uniforms, and the jokers are two British tax stamps from the Townshend Act that helped precipitate the Revolutionary War.
I don't have professional renders yet, but I can print screen exports here if anyone's interested. I've published the preview page and the campaign will begin Tuesday, April 21.
