I remember it was announced that D&D aren't making any more versions of S&M beyond v6 - but many have been speculating about that cool-looking black card in the v6 tuck box...  Perhaps a promo/giveaway deck, a la Ellusionist?

Oh lordy if it's v7... v6 just came out two months ago. D&D would really be milking their 10-minutes-to-make back design if they do a fourth iteration of it.

I really hope if there is a v7 it isn't black...I think that, to me anyyway, would be a huge let down...Time for a new design, no need for the same deck but "carbon fiber" I think the colors on the court cards would be horrible since with the v4-v6 decks, the court card colors are associated with the back color. Black would be dull and boring in my opinion. I think it is time for a new design ;)

V6 was the last deck in the color series so V7 must be black or they will have a different deck (not smoke and mirrors)

follow my reasoning here....If my memory serves me correct, didn't Variety Box V3 come out before Fantastique? They waited to ship the V3 variety box until the Fantastique release.  I ordered the V4 variety box and it still hasn't shipped. My guess is the Tungstene Deck will be released this Friday. I could be wrong and this could be V7. I guess the most important question to ask is Has anyone's Variety box shipped yet?  If yes then maybe V7....

Although I completely agree that it is annoying how they are only re-using the same design, I feel the Black deck would look elegant and would be great for people who preform for weddings and business parties.

the Tungestene deck was designed in France and printed by the US Playing Card Company. They handle similar to the new Bikes - so not bad.

I think they won't releasing v7 anytime soon.
They are still in stock with the fantastique decks.
Releasing v7 would make the fantastique decks harder to sold out.

If I was forced to guess, I'd say this was Tungstene.  I honestly don't think there's going to be a regular-release v7.  If there's a black Smoke & Mirrors deck like the card in v6, I'm wagering that they'll make it some kind of promo deal similar to Ellusionist.  How many of you have spent just a little extra to make it to that next prize tier from E?  I'm guessing many if not most of the people on this forum.  From a marketing standpoint, it's a no-brainer good idea.

Hmmm...  it is wrapped like a gift, right?  One way or another, it holds something they want to do especially for the holidays.  Whether it's around after the holidays remains to be seen - as does the item itself, which could be new cards, soap, cologne, a pocket copy of Erdnase, a stack of those cool bottle openers, a gaffed gadget like a TopIt or a Gecko, a butterfly, a tin of sardines, emergency rations, a deodorant/anti-perspirant stick, a small block of cheese, a pack of Jerry's Nuggets (!!!), an iPhone, an iPod touch, a gadget that competes with the last two items, a zen sand/rock garden with rake, a planter for a bonsai tree, an ashtray, a remote control, the keys to a new car (!!!), a deck-sized USB drive, a box of Pop Rocks, a box of Nerds, two boxes of Tic Tacs, a piece of chocolate, a little camera, the ashes of Harry Houdini, some turf from Shea Stadium before it was torn down, a pack of tickets to all of next year's magic conventions with airfare, some pins and needles, a mini-haystack to hide said pins and needles...

...or something completely different!

It's a David Blaine deck.  The little "db" pattern all over the backs were kind of the giveaway...

I don't see how you can say that, since you're only seeing a black-and-white photo.  They could be chartreuse and you wouldn't know!  The faces are white, the backs have white borders, and the many shades of gray I'm seeing on those backs tells me there's some unknown colors on there, not necessarily black with shades of gray.

im really hoping these dont sell out right away.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one...  D&D decks (except Fantastique, a specialty deck) sell fast.

I'm lucky I live on the west coast for things like this. Although it's hard enough keeping track of all the release times and whatnot haha  ???

You win some, you lose some.

On the bright side, this deck has had less exposure (or so it seems) so the chances aren't all that bad. I think that the Black Crowns and T11 are getting more press, so they still might be there in the morning. Plus the last DD release wasn't as "hot" as they thought it would be haha

I bought 5 fantastique decks, I have no intention to sell any but in hindsight I should have opted for 2 or 3, I'm going to try and stick to the 2-3 deck rule from now on, I just to excited amist all the hype.

i am so mad about the fantastiques i bought a brick of them and they are never going to go up in value

They will go up in value but it wont be for a very long time. Cards have an insane turn around rate (thats what i think its called). In a good 5-10 years these will be more expensive is my guess.

I am impressed as well, they must have tinkered with how it is set up a bit, guess we will have to see what happens when people actually start to use it and not just refresh constantly.

I bought 2, I agree with Evan and I really like the design. I like the box as well, its just that I do not feel like spending a bunch of money on cards so I only got a couple for my collection. The promo video is awesome as well, I am just diggin the whole theme with this deck.

I love this deck from what I've seen. One thing to notice is the custom brick box which is awesome. The design isn't as great as the v6 brick box, but I am really happy that Dan and Dave did another custom one. I would love to see this become more popular for companies to do. I don understand the cost and whatnot, but it would be awesome!!

Also in the trailer at the end it says "to be continued..." could this be a new series?

I'm going to work now and will have a think about these, not that keen on them. If they do happen to sell out before I decide I don't think I'll be too disappointed. I've got to be a bit more particular with what I buy now as there are so many decks coming out. I love the trailer though.

You going to get 3 of the Red Lions at $175 each? You must be rich or something. I'd love to get the Red Lions but unless David Blaine decides to release them individually then I ain't getting them.

The only thing i really like on the D&D deck are the Aces &  the Joker!

i love this deck. that pip idea is fantastic! Good enough that I feel hugely compelled to roughly borrow that idea in some fashion for my own designs. I'd actually been playing with something like that just last night for an Ace of Spades, but they got it perfect.

Lovely aces and box... not a fan of one different pips (reminds me of the pirate decks).  My local UK supplier http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/ got Fantastique in this week, so I think I'll wait and (hopefully!) get this from them; 1 day delivery and better price for me.

True, but it's kinda weird that they only did that to one pip per card. It's still pretty awesome, and I think it adds to the decks "artsy" value.

True, but it's kinda weird that they only did that to one pip per card. It's still pretty awesome, and I think it adds to the decks "artsy" value.

It's not weird, it's called "Art"

I know. I even mentioned that. I'm not bashing the deck, I'm loving it. Let me rephrase that. It's not weird, it's interesting.

I think from now on, even the decks say limited, it will last for a while, except they really specify that it's 5000 produced. People are getting more picky. And I think it's better.

I live in Canada, but priority mail via USPS usually takes a week to a week and a half to arrive. But remember that it states they will not even start shipping until December 5th, so its going to be a while.

And now it's TWO days later and they're still around.  There was a LOT of stuff hitting the stores all at once and I don't think D&D hyped this as much as the other shops did.  Tons of buzz around Black Crown, Ltd., Infinity, Monarch, Gold Monarch, CARC Pro Bikes,  Vortex, Galvanic, Crimson Gate, the Black Friday White Centurions (I wish I got in on that one; I was out when the email came to me and by the time I got home it was too late to act) with JAQKs and brown Wynn's and who knows what else from the smaller companies or USPC themselves.

I'd like to agree with you on this one.  It would represent a slight cooling of the marketplace.  Too much crap is being thrown at the walls with the companies making them hoping that they stick.  A choosier market means they'll have to decide more carefully what gets made and what doesn't.

The only wrench that's thrown into those works would be that despite the crap, there's a LOT of good cards coming from the major players.

But then again.... isn't it a good thing for us that the Fultons Clip deck is still here? Hopefully it will last a while and we can order more of the, once we use ours!

I don't think these decks will sell out anytime soon.

I went to the D&D site, and typed in that I wanted to buy 1000 decks.. and it was going to process it

I guess it all boils down to the definition of limited.  Fifty million is still a limited quantity...  :)

Just to let everyone know, I asked the twins what stock and finish the Fulton cards would be on, and i got this back in reply,

"Hello John,

The stock/finish is very close to the Aristocrats.

Cheers,
Dan"

I don't know about you but that seems a tiny bit vague to me, so i asked Dan if he meant the banknote reprints, to which i got this,

"Yes, I was referring to the reprints.

Cheers,
Dan"

I personally never handled the aristocrat banknotes so i wouldn't know what to expect, just throwing the information out their to the rest of you :).

My guess is that people were waiting and waiting for the v6, and now that they are releasing many impractical (or is it unpractical) decks such as the Tugenstein and Fantastiqué decks, no one sees the point of buying many of these decks.

Although these decks are gorgeous, the "one odd pip" is sure to make laymen suspicious.

No, it isn't sure to make laymen suspicious. It's just playing cards. The regular Bicycle Rider Back decks aren't the standard everyone's used to seeing. You have thousands of cheap decks from gas stations, airlines, promo decks etc. On top of that, USPCC have themselves printed tons and tons of different designs. And that's just in USA, where Bicycle decks are quite common. Outside of the US Bicycles are quite rare, and for example in Sweden you're more likely to run into a deck of Öbergs playing cards. Does that make people suspicious of Bicycle cards here? Nope. Despite most of them not having seen them before.

The whole 'custom decks make laypeople suspicious' is just something magicians have cooked up in their own minds when faced with 'is that a trick deck?' while holding a deck of custom cards. It's not about the cards. It was either a) the spectator being the type of person to always think it's the deck, or b) you did something to make the spectator think it was a special kind of deck.

As for the odd pip thing on the Fulton's deck - it looks awesome and I'm absolutely positive spectators will only react with thinking that it's a cool feature of the design. They won't think it's a button you can press to make the magic happen.

To steer this even further back onto topic after my rant, I must say I'm looking forward to this deck. I went ahead and purchased a bunch after only seeing the box and the faces - still haven't seen the back design up close.  ;D

Thanks Narcus for explaining that to me. Whenever I perform magic, I'm always so paranoid that people know what's going on even though they have no idea.

I love the look, and will probably go ahead and order a few to use.

Bastard.  ;)

Anyways - don't worry about the cards. The only time you need to worry about people thinking there's something wrong with the deck is if it's made out of tiny little persons that secretly change the pips. Until then, don't sweat it. The 'Is it a trick deck?' people will surface sometimes, but it's just like with the 'I know how you did that' people. You can't get away from all of them.

Anyways - Fulton's. I reckon nobody's received theirs yet? Wait, scratch that - they aren't sent out until the 5th or something, right?

I really need to keep better track of my purchases.

Nope, nor did I get the Fantastiqué. I asked for them for Christmas, but nothing more then that. If I don't get any, I will probably just end up purchasing them.

The Fantastique reminds you of the Jaqk deck? I didn't really see anything similar between the two besides the metallic ink on the Fantastique reminds me of the Jaqk box. They are both amazing cards and I'm glad I stoked up on the two of them. I would suggest getting them, they are wonderful.

I'm honestly not sure, but for some reason, whenever I look at this, it screams JAQK to me. I'm guessing it's the papery box, but I think it's some subconscious thing I'm having.

Does anyone know what I mean, and how they kinda look similar?

I honestly don't see the resemblance at all. The papery box is semi similar, but there was much more color and life to the Jaqk box. I get a very different feel from the two, but thats just me :)

I just checked my order and it's still being processed.  Processed?

The order was placed on Nov. 25th.  My checking account was charged Nov. 28th.  The cards were clearly advertised as shipping on Dec. 5th.  Here it is, Dec. 10th, and they're still processing it?  What is it, "American cheese food"?  Are the cards still in the oven and they're waiting for the filling to cool?

I'm writing an email to them stating my displeasure and that since the order is still being processed and hasn't shipped, I want to reduce my Fulton's purchase from 12 decks to only 3, and remove another item I ordered.

T11 and E shipped my Black Friday/Cyber Monday stuff fast, and I've had it all for several days now.

BC shipped my white Arrcos and I received them while they're still working on that weekend's order - but Alex Pandrea took the effort to contact me by email and in these forums to not only give me an apology but an extra Black Crown deck for my troubles; to me, that's a class act.

In my eyes, Dan and Dave leave a lot to be desired.  I haven't heard "boo" from them since the order was placed.  Pardon me, Mister Buck and Mister Buck, I think your hubris is showing...  And this doesn't even cover the supposed release of the Tungstene deck, which their own CS rep stated would be released this week.  Well gang, this week is nearly gone and Tungstene is still in the vaporware stage unless you bought a Variety Box v4.  I'm giving them a few more hours yet, since they are on Pacific Time while I'm on Eastern Time, but I don't see those Tungstene decks coming out on time, much like my order.

Although, as I check their site now, it's 11:21pm Friday Pacific Time and there's now an extra "page" in the slide show of featured products for the Fulton's deck, with a slightly different photo.  Could this have been placed in advance as a placeholder for the Tungstene deck?  Who knows?

On the home page, there's a "slide show" of pictures at the top of the page below the line advertising the holiday giveaway.  Each links to a product when you click open the title on the right side.  If you watch closely, the first and third slides are of Fulton's Clip Joint decks, with the first one having a stack of cards on the table and the third one having no cards on the table.

Considering server crash issues due to heavy demand, maybe having a placeholder worked better than trying to insert one on the fly or something.  It at the least looks like it is indeed a placeholder and not accidental, because they didn't have two previously.

For anyone who didn't get them, I'll have some extra I'll sell - I bought a brick, don't usually keep that many.  Granted, they're still on the website, but I'll only charge face value plus shipping cost from the Post Office rather than from the D&D warehouse!  That's a good deal for international orders - but I will need payment either in PayPal or in trade.

This isn't a formal posting for a sale.  When I have them, I'll post them as such in the proper forum.

Post by: Don Boyer on December 12, 2011, 02:32:49 AM

Who knows?

Yes, I'm quoting my own post - so I can give you an update.

I placed an order yesterday for the Tungstenes and while I was at it, fired off a few emails to Syd in customer service.  I actually heard back from him Sunday - I ordered a few items in addition to the Fulton's brick, but not all of them were in stock.  (I don't know which items, but there's only two possibilities.  The Fulton's weren't sold out and the stripper decks won't be restocked, so it was either the Ace bottle opener or the two decks of Acorn Back Bees.)  Anyway, Syd was kind enough to combine my orders into a single shipment, refund the difference in shipping costs and the order is now being listed as complete, which I'm taking to mean that it's being sent out later today.  They didn't provide tracking, unfortunately, so I can't monitor the shipment.

I mentioned when replying to Syd about how some around here have some issues with D&D, in particular the international customers and the high cost of shipping to them.  It's possible that he might take my advice and have someone from D&D check in here and address those issues.  One can hope...

Syd told me he will combine shipping and upgrade the shipping method- no refund for me.

However, I don't really know if my orders have been shipped or not.

However, I don't really know if my orders have been shipped or not.

It's now 2:47am Monday on the US East Coast.  That makes it 11:47pm Sunday on the US West Coast, at D&D HQ.  Since the mail doesn't get delivered or picked up on Sundays, I'm guessing that it's packed and labeled, awaiting pick-up by a mail truck on Monday at some point.

Hey, while a refund is nice, a free bump in the shipping method isn't so bad.  As the saying goes, "it beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!"

My Fulton's also says "processing" still, but the Tungstene shows up as "complete" and Syd did say he was combining the orders.  I take that to mean that they don't have an adequate way to handle combined orders in their system.  I'd say that they are indeed going to ship together and that they're ready to go out with the mail today.
Title: Re: Fulton's Clip Joint Playing Cards

I thought the tungstene said completed because Syd put that together with the fulton's which doesn't have to mean that they are all ready to be shipped. Not sure, but I waited for a very long time.

Mine came this afternoon (Raleigh, NC). I ordered 1 deck and inside were flyers for Magic Con, the D&D profiles on Twitter and Facebook, and a ticket (?) for "Hunting Season" on the D&D site.

The ticket has a stag on it and it says "Join us every Friday at Noon (12pm PST) to find out if you've won or to simply participate in the fun." Below that is a 6-digit number. Is this new? I've never seen this in my previous D&D orders.

I've been having a short back-n-forth with Syd at D&D Customer Service.  I sent him this:
-
---
-
I check out the forums at aethercards.com/discourse (http://aethercards.com/discourse/../discourse) - a lot of foreign customers have been complaining loudly about how expensive your shipping is. Not just Asians, Brits and Aussies - even Canadians aren't thrilled. Perhaps someone could check in and address this?  We occasionally hear from reps from a few companies such as Ellusionist, Blue Crown and Circle City Card Co. - and even when they don't comment, they at least read up to see what our concerns are as customers.
-
---
-
He replied with this:
-
---
-
Hey Don,

I appreciate your input on the shipping prices and such. Yes, our uncut sheet shipping is a little out of whack for everyone (we are working on this), and buying 5 or 6 bricks at a time can be expensive for International customers, but our shipping prices are essentially what we get charged from the USPS, handling/material fees and insurance. We work with customers who email us directly regarding what they feel is an overcharge and not through 3rd party message boards.

Thank you again,
Syd
-
---
-
So, this means that Syd won't be stopping by around here any time soon, but if you have qualms about their shipping charges, you may be able to redress the problem by contacting him directly.

Considering the kinds of exchanges that take place on forums like this, I'd think it would be in the best interests of his company to at least see what people are saying about them.  His reply seemed more like a brush-off on the idea.  So I'm glad he refunded me a portion of my domestic shipping charges after combining my two active orders for me, but it seems a little arrogant of his company to not keep tabs on the pulse of their customers.  It seems like they don't really care about us unless we're banging on their virtual "front door", the email inbox.

If I'm misinterpreting this, anyone, please, add your two cents and say what you think.
Title: Re: Fulton's Clip Joint Playing Cards
Post by: AceGambit on December 13, 2011, 09:35:49 AM
I think it does come off a little arrogant, but really the company is allowed to run their business however they want.  Some companies prefer to surf among their customers and be part of the community themselves.  Other companies (and call it pretentious if you like) do not have any desire to be a part of the community, they want to run their business and expect their customers to contact them if they have a problem, not go and complain elsewhere.

Personally, if I were running a business, I would do everything in my power to maintain an accurate view of how my customers perceived me.  That doesn't mean that I disagree with the expectation that if a customer has a problem, they will address the company in question, not just throw it out there in the community and hope to hell the person with the power to fix it sees it.

just received my brick. I really like the design of the brick box and the tuck boxes for the cards, although the tuck boxes are a but flimsy.

compared to V6's the cards feel quite a bit different. the edges have a lot of texture compared to the v6's edges which are smooth like glass. the card stock is a bit stiff too, much like the fantastique deck.

I think that's true for most of the decks coming out around this time. They all seem to be limited and that means that they will only increase in value over the years. This deck will increase in price, but I think that it will be less expensive than other decks. The Fulton's weren't as popular. If you compared the Fulton's, Vortex, and The Americana deck in 5 years I think that the Fulton's would be the least expensive. (I'm not trying to start an argument over that hypothetical). The deck is still in stock and there are many other decks coming out lately that are nicer and have a higher demand.

In 5 years though a lot of today's decks will be pricey.

I just got mine today.  Waited for a UK site to get some in.  Honestly?  I don't think they're great.  I really like the box, as flimsy as it is but the art isn't their best stuff but it's still good.  The handling is where it really falls down IMO.  They feel like standard Bikes, nothing special at all and worst of all, thy wouldn't make it through a poker night; the durability on these things is terrible.  Seriously, just playing about handlign with these things and they're all bent out of shape completely.  Not good enough, IMO especially after how damn good the S&M decks are.
Title: Re: Fulton's Clip Joint Playing Cards

You guys didn't dump your D&D raffle tickets yet, did you?  There's a second drawing on the 27th for any unclaimed prizes!

I'm actually thinking they're Bee stock, not Bikes.  But it's probably the Bee stock used for over-the-counter decks as opposed to the casino-grade stuff, Kanped, if you're having trouble with durability.  "Cambric Finish" is never used on decks other than Bee stock decks.  (Either that or you're very hard on your decks!)
Title: Re: Fulton's Clip Joint Playing Cards
Post by: Kanped on January 12, 2012, 02:38:09 PM
Hmmm... now that you mention it, the exact same durability problems do tend to happen on my standard Bees.  In saying that, their casino grade stock is far and away my favourite for feel and durability.  I have more durable decks, sure, but not that can handle like the Bees.  I did get the green Erdnase diamond back deck in the same package and they handle and hold their shape fantastically.  Pretty sure that's the Bee casino stock.
Title: Re: Fulton's Clip Joint Playing Cards

I just got mines today, and they have the exact same thickness as my standard Bees. I can't really say for the handling since my Bees are a bit more worn out, but hey do seem to be on the soft side for such thick stock. I'm gonna have to agree on the Bee stock.
Then again, I was surprised to find out that my stingers (That I got from D&D in the same order) are ALSO as thick... And the T11 description clearly says aristocrat stock. :-\
Title: Re: Fulton's Clip Joint Playing Cards

You can tell by the feel that the Stingers have nicer stock.  There's gotta be more to it than just thickness, right?  Hmm... actually, I have no idea.

The Stingers have a softer stock than the Fulton's.  Aristocrat stock is soft, except for the version used in Tally Ho decks.

Hi. I'm wondering who if anyone has much info about the fultons private reserve deck. I've searched on here to no avail, I've searched online too. D&D website tells me only 100 produced and was intended for Fulton and his closest friends. Also has a "missing seal sticker". But what I wana know is, for those who own one, how different is it really from the actual clip joint?

It's the same blasted deck with a custom seal.  "Intended for Fulton and his closest friends?"  Fulton in this case is a fictitious character created by Brad Fulton, just as Fulton's Clip Joint isn't a real Los Angeles bar that ever existed, and Ace Fulton's casino doesn't exist either, because Ace Fulton himself doesn't exist.

Simply put, it was a way to get people to buy more decks.

It's most likely just a clip joint that D&D took the cellophane off of and hand placed seals made by another printing company.

Ahh I see. I was offered one the other day for £20, but I told them I have 3 clip joints and asked what made this so special. They replied "100 printed with a custom seal. Very rare." So I replied "is it the same basic deck as the normal clip joint?" To which I got no response. I should've realised at that point lol

Yep. Unless you're a hardcore collector of everything D&D or Fulton related they are not worth anything above the retail price on the D&D website. They are hardly even worth the price being asked there.

The design was interesting at the time, but it's been cribbed a lot these days and the performance went south fast on this.  It had a life span of yesterday...

I still love what they did with the pips! It's one of those designs, in my opinion, works well because it's slightly different enough to be custom but not over the top so. It doesn't really take away from the function or look of the cards I think if only one pip is changed. I will definitely agree on the performance though. The clip joints don't seem to last very long for some reason. Maybe it's the way I've handled mine.

They still are interesting. I believe it was the first of its kind to use the one custom pip idea. These were very well done. Maybe too well. I have not bought any other Fulton deck. None compare.

By performance, you mean handling? Can't say I remember how mine handled. Did not leave a lasting impression. D&D needs to update the website display. Many older good products getting lost or forgotten in the back.

wasn't the white knuckles deck out before these?

Yeah, they did NOT last long.  They didn't use Magic Finish on this - they claim with certain decks that they use a "proprietary finish" of their own, but that's marketing BS.  Nice concept, attractive deck and that's about it.  Oh, and a really screwy-looking joker...

White Knuckles definitely predate this deck, by a good number of months.  But the intricacy of the WK deck is way beyond what was done with this one.  It's like comparing baroque to modern art - worlds apart in the level of detail work.

The jokers and back design had little to do with the theme of clip joints in my opinion. Other than the black of the back and the darker reds. I can see maybe smokey? No doubt I like the card faces, but those jokers are very random.

Now the White Knuckles are a very nicely designed deck of cards. I can appreciate the huge amount of detail in each card. Now if we are to say the Clip Joint performance (handling) turned south quickly, the White Knuckles are a different story. Those were bad almost out of the box. I'm still hoping someone puts it into motion to reprint them with a standard Magic Finish and maybe add some metallics in the deck. I can only dream...

Yeah, they were part of the "transition period" decks, while USPC was still shaking down the new equipment at the Erlanger plant when it opened.  The decks of that period had a spotty record - some came out fine while others had terrible handling issues - worst of all being the Stephen Rook decks with all the metallics he used.  Magic Finish counters metallic ink performance problems these days, but then, man did they get bad fast.

I agree about the handling and the desire to see them reprinted, but I would disagree about adding metallic inks.  They were a mighty fine set of decks design-wise, no changes needed.  I think that some of the more finely-detailed handwork would be lost if painted in with metallic inks.

But yeah, Fulton's Clip Joints were an odd duck, but an interesting one.  Of all the Fulton's decks, to me that was the only one worth having, and only barely so.  The rest were, as I see it, attempts to milk the concept dry.  I was sorely disappointed with the Chinatowns and the faces on the Ace Fulton's Casino decks were a disappointment to me - that one oddball pip concept was really poorly executed on that design in my opinion, because the odd pips looked too much like a different suit.

How can't u compare them? Custom pips and a single custom pip. Fultons, although a fine deck, did nothing new.

(This is coming from a person that very much likes the design of the clip joints).

I think I'm just a fan of that slight shine in bright light. But I would definitely agree that if the fine detailed design is ruined with metallics, they don't need them.

I think it was the fact that it was difficult to tell that the pip was supposed to be a spade with the proper pip punched out of it at first glance. You'd either have to have known or think about it. At least the Clip Joints had the proper pip with a little bit of fancy contained within it.

How can't u compare them? Custom pips and a single custom pip. Fultons, although a fine deck, did nothing new.

I think it's more so not just the pips but the design concept of the entire decks. The White Knuckles had completely custom, realistic courts, extremely detailed pips, and an extremely detailed back to match. The Clip Joints had recolored courts, one custom pip per face, and a decent back design that (in my opinion) didn't match the theme. So one deck was built from scratch and was made extremely detailed while the other was changed slightly in some ways and left "standard" in others. You can compare them, yes. But to do so would be unfair to the Clip Joints.

They brought the idea of the single customized pip to the forefront.  Closest thing I'd see to that previous was the Bicycle Pirate decks, and they simply recolored some of the pips on each card.  It was sort of interesting the first time around, but in retrospect seems a little odd.  Why just the one pip?  And different pips in different places, with no consistency from suit to suit?  But at the time it was popular enough to spawn an entire line of Fulton's decks.
