The website selling it is still indicating that it's on pre-order and will ship four days ago. That's right, they take your order and go into the past using a souped-up Delorean to have your order shipped on January 22nd...

BMPokerWorld gave up on trying to stock this deck because it was delayed on multiple occasions. This could simply be just another delay. I emailed to get a status update on them.

Agree with @SABACC....If BMPOKER is backing out on these you know something is fishy! Seems like I read (over @ UC maybe) he had already paid and was having trouble getting his money back for these! I have never purchased anything from this seller so I don't even know if he is legit or not.

Yeah I thought it was a little fishy as well. I've been waiting to see if anything new comes up with this deck before I purchased any for that reason. Luckily I won't have to deal with haha Hopefully they do end up producing this one. I think it's pretty nifty

what..? It should printed by USPCC and how they didn`t check the Quality before they printing out final model .. !!

It's swiftly becoming the "Duke Nukem Forever" of the playing card business! I think that she's being more than a little disingenuous about receiving them and sending them back for quality issues. These kinks are usually worked out long before the "ready to ship" stage. Wouldn't surprise me to learn they're waiting on enough paid pre-orders to pay for the deck to be made, like a Kickstarter project without Kickstarter!

Unless someone else makes it, I don't see this deck ever getting made. I doubt BMPokerWorld is the only card dealer to have backed out on this endeavor.

I may write her back for laughs, just to see what she says about an ETA on the deck.

You should write her back. All it can do is give us more information on what's "happening". I would actually like to know because if this deck is ever released I would like to get a couple of each color.

Here's my reply to Ms. Smith. Hopefully this will generate a reaction.

I'm surprised that these failed to get caught in the quality-control phase of production. Can you tell me more about what happened? What were the specific problems that led your firm to reject the shipment and request a replacement? Do you have an estimate on when the corrected decks will be available?

Many of the people on the message board where I write about collectible playing cards are very interested in this deck, and we've heard rumors that it's been delayed several times. In fact, BMPokerWorld announced on their blog months ago that they canceled their order of this deck because of the long string of delays. Can you comment on that? What card dealers have orders in place that they haven't canceled, so we may know where else to find these cards in the future?

What do you think?

It's good. If they answer the questions we will pretty much know the whole story on the deck, but I doubt that'll happen. There's a lot of questions in there and I can see them being general on the matter.

These delays make this company look less land less reputable.

Seriously, these have been advertized for a long time.

I really don't think I'd purchase anything from their site.

You're right about that one CBJ. We've actually been talking about being reputable in one of my classes and how it's the audience/consumer that decides if you are or not. This company is losing that with all the delays. If they do end up releasing them and I hear good things about the shipping and whatnot I might get some still. Who knows if that day will come though.

That's a great point and my biggest concern if they do get the decks and sell them. I wouldn't want to spend the money and have the decks be "delayed" for an uncertain amount of time. Since I haven't heard much about the seller and thus don't know how the shipping speed is I would be forced to wait and see if other people take the plunge and purchase any of these. If people do and the shipping/customer service wasn't horrible then I think I would get some. I wouldn't be surprised if others did as well in the end.

OK, people, here's the straight deal from the company:

Hello Don! To clarify, there is nothing wrong with the printing on the Bicycle cards used to make Pale Riders. It is the aftermarket finish, exclusive to Pale Riders, that we are unhappy with. The quality was superb on the proofs, but in mass production the finish is inconsistent. Currently, we are obtaining the equipment necessary to produce the Pale Rider finish in-house, as I would like to launch a series of card tricks using the deck and am eager to see them on the market in regular supply.

We have stopped accepting new orders until we can get caught up on orders already received, which will ship the same day we have a product we feel is quality. Customers who wish to cancel their order, can do so for a refund or store credit. While there have been several delays, we are a reliable company. Since we first announced Pale Riders, we have produced, distributed, and successfully delivered many other new products.

If you have anymore questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Thanks Don!

So, it turns out that "Pale Riders" are made out of ordinary Bicycles! They're not QC'ed at USPC, 'cause they simply re-treat existing playing cards to make them faded. It's just another variety of gaffed deck, not some new deck.

That answers a LOT of questions...

Yeah that's a lot of answers! So it sounds like a legit reason for the delay, more or less. They were pretty timely in responding to you and it sounds like they are taking responsibility for what's up. Sounds good all in all!

I'm guessing they're using some sort of "whitewash" applied over the existing finish of a Bike deck. They're not "fading" the deck so much as they are covering it up to not-quite-full opacity.

Without realizing just how accurate he was, Alex hit the nail on the head when he stated this was little more than a gaff deck. I'd be curious to know how their finally-finished product turns out, though: imagine being able to IMPROVE the finish of any given deck after it's been made, not just make it look faded...

This piece of vaporware's been around for a YEAR, waiting to go on sale? No wonder BMPW gave up on them. Even if they do come out, I think they've lost the confidence of the market by now.

Um, about the deck being made from pre-existing bikes, I thought that was obvious from the start... Isn't it what they say in the item description to begin with? Didn't you guys read that?
