Removing the Blue Crown "Altruism" deck - it is NOT an HOPC deck, not for sale except at thebluecrown.com

Updating the KS projects and changing the Bicycle Compass deck from "Begins 8 Oct. 2012" to "Coming soon" since it's over a day late and counting.

And what's new with you?

EDIT: Congratulations to Pedale Design - your "Misc. Goods Co." deck is nearly 1,000% funded.  You earned over TEN GRAND in the past 24 hours!

Bicycle Asylum is THISCLOSE to meeting its goal - get on board, already!

Since someone decided to add the topic for Bicycle Gunslingers from (ahem) The-Con-Artist.com, I added the link.  But knowing TCAC's track record, I have serious doubts if this deck will see the light of day.

Removing T11's Madison Players, now on sale.

Updating the name of Seasons "v2" decks to "Platinum Edition".

Adding "The Amazing MMD Comic Book Deck, #1" from De'vo, leaving only one remaining unnamed project for release between now and Christmas.  This deck and the Dominion deck are due out in November, with this deck getting previewed at New York Comic-Con.

And as usual, updating the KS projects.

EDIT: Congratulations to Bicycle Asylum deck for reaching its goal!

Bicycle Call of Cthulhu is at less than ten hours and counting, with some of the more recent rewards including more art sketches, a collector's set including a costume straitjacket and custom poker chips.  It's at nearly 1,200%, a little short of $89,000.

Updating the KS decks.

Working on an elegant solution to posting (when available) release dates of upcoming decks.

Bicycle Call of Cthulhu ended with a whopping $96,583 and 2,216 backers, putting them at 1,288% of their $7,500 goal.  HOOOOOOO-LEEEEEEE-COOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW...  It's been moved to the Closed KS list.

Meanwhile, the Misc. Goods/Pedale Design deck is raking in about $5K a DAY!  It's at over $76K with nearly three weeks left!  This IS the deck that will break $100,000 raised (probably by this time next week)!

Got it, thanks.  I need more people posting this stuff HERE!

Updated the KS projects.

Got a release date for Ellusionist's Sultan Republic.  Loving the new ad - looks like a very different deck than we thought.

Got a release time for the Platinum Seasons decks.

Bent Castle announced via KS that the Deck of Extraordinary Voyages will now be a USPC-made deck - but there's been a good number of backers insisting they don't use them, because it would mean sacrificing the "X" Emissary cards for the deck.  The reason they gave for the switch was that their printer switched release dates on them, announcing the deck would be ready in mid-January rather than by Christmas, which they found unacceptable.  I'm now listing it as a USPC KS project until BC gives an official announcement to the contrary.

Congratulations to Elite Playing Cards for a successfully-completed KS project, Ritual Playing Cards.

Let's do a quick overview of what's happening in KS-land in the next several days...

Ending in the next seven days...
  • TONIGHT - Darkana Surreal
  • Tuesday - Redesigned Socially Positive etc.
Ending in the seven days following...
  • Friday the 26th - Key West Resort/Casino
  • Sunday the 28th - Elements; Medusa
  • Wednesday the 31st (Halloween) - Asylum
This leaves six of the current projects still running - and four of those end in the first week of November (Black Tie; Bohemia; Misc. Goods/Pedale; Mythos: Necronomicon).  Of course, many new decks can pop up in-between here and there to fill the void, but this has been a busy time for KS deck projects, indeed...

OUTLOOK - my opinions, in order of closing date
  • Darkana - won't make it
  • Redesigned SPPC - never left the gate
  • Key West - odds are long against
  • Elements - another non-starter
  • Medusa - it should succeed to the tune of 100-125%
  • Asylum - a done deal, may hit 150-175%
  • Mythos: Necro - will end near or over 300%
  • Misc./Pedale - an unstoppable machine & record holder, could end around $150,000/2,400%
  • Black Tie - too close to call, could go down to the wire
  • Bohemia - already a solid success, will end at 350-400%
  • Heraldry - will probably make it but it's too close now & too far to closing time
  • Compass - so early into it that it's not on the radar yet

Bent Castle Workshops, due to the near-unanimous investor outcry, will work with their original printer and not use USPC.  They want to stick to their 60-card deck design, something USPC never accommodates.  This does mean, however, that they'll miss their target of getting the deck into people's hands in time for Christmas.  Now, it's beginning to look a lot like January...

The Darkana deck failed to reach their goal, raising only $2,801 of a $15,000 goal.  A thought just occurred to me...  Darkana was printing with Brahma and they've been here before quoting a cheap price for their decks, less than a buck a deck in two one-color backs, 5K total.  So why was this deck's goal so high?  You can make a USPC deck for that cost.

The Misc./Pedale deck officially overtook the Bicycle Call of Cthulhu deck to become the highest-funded project, with nearly two weeks remaining!  No mean feat, considering that BCoC nearly doubled the record from its previous mark.

In release: Ace Fulton's Casino, red and blue.

A deck that caught me by surprise: Pr1me Playing Cards, Series 001, new "2nd Edition" printing with upgraded artwork, better tuck box and improved card consistency in handling.  IT's supposed to have quality on par with the Pr1me Sketch deck.  Additionally, it appears that Pr1me is working on new deck projects as well.  Thank you to 52Cartes/Remi for that information.

I'm predicting that there will be a big slowdown in Kickstarter deck projects (or at least fewer successful ones) between now and year's end.  Any deck started now won't be finished fundraising until December and will get ignored in everyone's holiday rush, especially factoring in that there's no way on Earth it would be ready for holiday gift-giving unless they used a printer other than USPC, and even that's not a certainty.  Any deck started much later than that will end its project in January, when everyone's working to pay off the holiday excesses and is in no mood to spend.  They'd have better odds of success heading into February deadlines.

Kickstarter Projects Forecast

Ending this week (21 Oct - 27 Oct)
TUE: Redesigned SPPC - likely to fail.
FRI: Key West - regrettably likely to fail; designer is looking into other ways to fund it.

Ending next week (28 Oct - 3 Nov)
SUN: Elements - nowhere near its goal.
WED: Asylum - moderately successful, may hit 150%+.
THU (late Wed in U.S.): Mythos Necro - very successful, I see this ending at around 325%.
THU: Misc. Goods - an unstoppable juggernaut, sucking all the air out of the market!
FRI: Black Tie - it's really on the cusp and could go either way, will be a close one.

Ending the week after (4 Nov - 10 Nov)
MON: Bohemia - big success, could go to 400%+, higher if it gets more media coverage.

Ending later
SAT 17 NOV: Heraldry - if it keeps up the current pace, could be a moderate success.
SUN 25 NOV: Compass - could make it, but needs more momentum.

New deck on KS: Creature Cards - "made by Bicycle"!  It does specifically state it's a Bicycle deck, however there's no tuck box art.  He could have simply been stating in a less-than-accurate way that the deck is USPC-made.  I'll leave it as one until I know better.

Congratulations to Kai Nesbit for breaching the fully-funded mark with the Medusa deck!  It was getting a little close there, but you finally made it with some time to spare!

Dennis Sandusky, rather than going through Kickstarter, opted to simply have the deck created with other funding.  It's expected to ship in about three weeks.  Orders are being accepted at keywestresortcasino.com, and at LOWER PRICES than the Kickstarter project.

Mythos Necro lost about $600 in funding since the last update.  But since it's well over 200% funded, I don't think 4PM Designs is all that concerned.

Zenneth Kok announced that "Project C" would be available by the end of this month!  Check this out!  The box looks rather sexy, though it seems to be following the trend of black with foil, begun who-knows-when but popularized recently with Rebels and Sultan Republic.

Kete Moon announced that CardsDancing, a Chinese-language cards forum, is releasing a new deck, Bicycle Lancer EX, that's only available FROM THE FORUM.  Interesting concept for a limited deck, eh?  Ask him nicely and maybe he'll give you the link...but you'll want to brush up on your written Chinese...

Not only will there be a white Moth/Myth soon, but it appears there will be a "Black and White Collection", which MAY have a new version of the black deck!  They're in "Final Countdown" so that sounds good - I just wish I knew where to buy it on release day without paying pirate's prices...

Got a preorder start time for Aurum, Friday 2 Nov at 15:00 UTC, 11am Eastern US/Canada.

Sultan Republic is in release, coming off the list.

As predicted, the KS project for Key West Resort and Casino failed, but also as stated in my previous post, it's now on sale.

Who wants to bet on whether the Pedale deck hits $150,000 by the time it closes in five days?  I bet in favor so you might as well pay me now...  :))

Next project to close will be Elements on Sunday.  The odds are poor.

Added a new feature to the Kickstarter chart - you can now see the change in pledges from one report to the next.  Since I publish roughly daily, it's almost like the stock report!  If this is popular, I might even work out keeping a one-week history so you can chart changes over several days.

Thanks to DC, I received information that Moth/Myth would be on sale in early November, and that there will be US outlets from which to order as well as Asian ones.

ReaganM's Steampunk deck is shipping, it seems - I got mine last week.  Removing it from the Closed list.  I was somewhat disappointed with it - after six printings the images still look like mud and one of the courts looks like it tipped over.  This, I think, may have had as much to do with the art as the printer.  With huge, indistinct indices, the deck's nearly unusable.

Two deck projects ending today: Elements and Medusa.  While Elements is nearly guaranteed to fail short of an angel investor, Medusa is already successful - last chance to get the deck at pre-release prices.

EDIT: late-breaking news - Zenneth Kok announced his "Project C" deck is "Bee Coterie" and is part of the creation of an organization for magicians.  Check out the newly-retitled topic:

Coterie1902 launching on 31st Oct

Kickstarters:

Medusa just had a successful closing this evening.

USPC-made Medusa: goal $15,000, raised $18,789, ended Sun 28 Oct 18:56

Elements deck did not.

USPC-made Elements Deck: goal $17,500; raised $1,300; ended Sun 28 Oct 13:16

Black Tie is going up approx $0.4K a day, but with four days left, that won't be enough.  Here's hoping for a late surge.

Misc. Goods/Pedale and Mythos: Necro are in their three-day stretch, both fully funded.  In the case of Pedale, INSANELY well funded.  A few hundred shy of $130,000!  Deck records seem to be broken about every month lately.

Overall, funding increases were low tonight, even from steady performers.  I'm betting it's in part related to storm preparations over much of the US East Coast.  Last year around this time, it was the Halloween Snowstorm, now it's Super-storm Hurricane Sandy.  Batten down the hatches, folks.

Due to possible power outages, there's a fair chance I'll not have an update for a few days.  I'll do what I can to get back online for you.

Now that you're out of the design phase for the most part, you should create a new topic in the Playing Card Plethora.

Thanks I just made a post. We did go a day or so early but I put the goal out a day or so and I was also done. Done with everything I had on my end when it came to things that were "blockers" for moving it forward.

Added the KS projects for Apocalyptica and Durak.  Corrected some KS end times that didn't reflect the end of DST in the US and Canada on Sunday 4 Nov.

There are five decks ending between now and Monday, including all four presently-overfunded decks.  Only five will remain unless more new ones crop up.  In my eye, it's a bad time to start a deck project - the "major players" will all be releasing their holiday products, sucking the cash out of the market with holiday specials.

Successfully completed KS project: Bicycle Black Tie.

Four new KS projects added to list:

Postumo - The Deck of the Dead - I'd probably have more enthusiasm for this project if a) it was ending before Halloween and b) it wasn't part of a rising tide of decks of the dead...  But hey, it's already reached its funding level - because the target was a lowball $1,000.  The designer's had three other successful KS projects, so maybe he's using some of those funds to get this one off the ground.

Allure - from the maker of the Genesis deck.  There's a WHOLE lot of goodies on his reward list.  Why does every deck of cards become a pocket tchotchke industry?  Having said that, the deck stands on its own merits.  It's understated, not insanely custom and pulls off simple elegance in ways that decks like Bicycle Heraldry haven't.  Gold borders front and back will be appealing to some, but 1,000 gilded decks sounds like a huge amount.  It seems to fit with the theme well enough, but those gilded decks take such a performance hit - even an ordinary card game becomes a messy affair with metallic paint flaked off the cards and onto everything in sight.

Bicycle Urban Punk - this might be more appealing if they went for truly custom courts rather than slapping "urban/hip/cool" elements onto the USPC standard courts.  If it gets made, it comes with a "Rule Rebel" deck for playing some traditional card games with alternate and changing rules.

Valor Playing Cards - a redux of the original KS project, it looks pretty much unchanged from the first vision.  The goal is rather modest, though, so I'm thinking he's taking advantage of USPC's lower deck-order threshold and making a shorter print run than he planned for the first attempt to get this deck made.  The design is quirky, but not the prettiest thing I've ever seen, nor is it the most practical.  If he targets die-hard patriots almost exclusively, he might make it this time.

Heyo, I'm one of the two people behind the PĆ³stumo deck. I wanted to clarify that our original goal did not initially involve us printing with the USPC. While we had it available as an option, we first and foremost just wanted to make this deck of cards a reality.
Once we cracked the $10,000 mark, we had enough money for at least a minimum run on Bicycle-grade paper. Right now we're looking to hit $20,000 to afford two deck backs (plus the composite chips and Chessex dice costs).
And seriously, what the heck is up with the tchotchke obsession? We're trying to keep our rewards limited to the deck and things you'd actually use with the deck (although there is one reward level with a T-shirt on it).
