A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Re: A new way to date sealed Bicycle cards?

What year is this bicycle deck?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq5hiEq2mrU
From deckreview's video. It doesn't have a barcode  ???
It should be 1940-1955.

Hmm if you're checking from the USPC Dating Code on cypressfilms.com, it should be 1940-1965.

Nope, I still say it's 1940-1955 because of the wax paper.
USPC started using cellophane from 1955 on.

My 1930s Bicycle Post...
1. My Baby - The Lotus Back (One of the first Non-Bicycle themed decks)
2. Racer Back Set
3. League Back

More sealed decks! How I wish I could get my hands on those sealed ones. But sometimes they are so expensive that they're out of my reach!

Ohh.. it's simply a gloomy collection without the Bicycle War Series :-\ :-\

@sxjy0109,
I don't know. Since I don't plan to resell it, why should I care about how much it costs on the market ;)

Every time I go to this page to look up the age of a deck:
http://www.cypressfilms.com/Bicycle/USPC_Dates/USPC_Dating_Codes.html
I always think I would never have the chance to own a deck with the "free-of-tax" stamp, but now I have one :D :D

@sxjy0109, the Arrco Service deck is not very famous. The seller is not a card collector, even he saw the page I posted earlier (http://a.trionfi.eu/WWPCM/decks03/d01964/d01964.htm), "SINCE 1943" still means nothing to him, hahaha.
I am not always so lucky, few days ago I continuously lost 6 items... those SOB snippers >:(
So I was angry and increased the max bids of the remaining auctions I was bidding on. Finally I won one deck (actually it's the only one deck) in those days: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130636796796
I was not too interested in the Uncle Sam decks I saw before, but this one... please look at its stamp. The "free-of-tax" stamp is very special to me.

@sxjy0109, Taobao ;)

@alex, I am not the winner of the Service deck from UK. I got mine from a US seller and it's starting price for auctioning was $0.99. I reviewed the seller's feedback page and was surprised all the decks he'd sold were ended with $0.99-3. So I tried to contact the seller and made an offer of $10 including shipping, he was so happy... These vintage decks are so valuable to us, but they are simply 50+ pieces of papers in non-collectors' eyes ???

@sxjy0109, I am not a serious collector. I only collect the decks I like. For example, every time I see a GN or 727, I can not control myself... I don't collect all the vintage decks I see unless I think them interesting or the prices are sweet (or I happen to be bored to death). My Arrco Service deck met the 2 conditions, it cost me only $10 including shipping.

I do have some vintage/antique decks, but they can not compare with others in terms of quantity and variety. And you know "人外有人,天外有天", there's always someone better. I don't like to list all my decks, however, when people talk about decks that I also have or am interested, I will try to post some pics then.

@sxjy0109, hahaha, I noticed the Service deck too because I have one.
You may refer to: http://a.trionfi.eu/WWPCM/decks03/d01964/d01964.htm
Now on eBay there is a Service deck with different jokers.

I don't want to compete with you guys, so I will just watch and then get the decks I want at the basic tier. :-\

Sorry but I have a question and hope someone may help me out: is the start time important?
I noticed xmetal said the campaign will last about 30 days, but at the same time I saw people mention the start time again and again.
The Kickstarter Project will go live at 9pm EST tonight and it will end in 30 days.
Thanks. So the start time is not that important, right?

@xmeta, thank you for your direction. It should not be a problem to me now ;)

643
I didn't get it why the auctions were amazing because I don't need most of those decks. They are not rare at all and I can get any of them easily by clicking the links of online auctions/stores here whenever I want. (BTW, A regular bike is about $1.3-1.5 here.)

But Don is right, they are wonderful for people who are starting collections due to the lower average cost per deck and combined shipping.

@xmetal, will you be online here when the activity starts? I guess I might need some help. I am not familiar with the process of KickStarter and don't even know what 'pledge' means in this thread :-\

But you know I will support this project. I am the person who asked you to hold my clip in the email until the Tendril decks are released.

@jmrock, they are not incredible and you know I only value the 727 and Playboy.

I already have many Golden Nuggets including the Atlantic City edition. I got this set simply because of its mint condition. The tin box might be the best one I've ever seen on eBay so far. The former owner had a full case of these from the '70s (he even had all the buses that went to Atlantic City), but gave them all away for years. This might be his last one or two sets.

Although the box says 1977, they should be produced in the 2nd half of the '80s to my knowledge.

I like the original Aristocrat 727s much and was lucky to have the chance to get the Back No.1. Unfortuantely its former owner is not a card collector and there's no story about this deck. The 1-pack tax stamp denotes 1940-1965, however, the range can be narrowed to 1955-1965 according to the cellophane. Well, from now on I will have to look forward the Back No.2(s) to complete my Aristocrat 727 collection.

The Bicycle Playboy, you know, it is attractive and collectible ;-)
Other decks in the pic are also good, but... just got them for collecting. I will use the Tahoe and V.Slims to see if they are so good as people usually say.

I am going out soon, and here is my last guessing game. The following package is on its way to me.

There are 6 decks, the 2 dark green ones are EATCT v1. Then what are the other 4?
(In the picture, it's jmrock's desk and keyboard, so ask him for the original picture if needed) ;)

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Gold and Silver 2008 Beijing Olympic Cards
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:25:38 PM »
I don't like and don't want the GOLD/SILVER Beijing Olympic decks, but I think they should be more valuable than some ugly decks such as the Clot Limited Edition (I even don't understand why people are willing to pay $35-50 for it)... ???
i personally like the bicycle clot deck alot .. some poeple have their own thinking so that might want the cloth deck and that deck is also limited edition
Sorry, I know what I said was very subjective. In fact the Clot decks are sold for 400 NTD (about $13.4 USD) a deck on Taiwan auctions, but I just don't like them even though I can get them with a much cheaper price.

As for the GOLD 2008 Olympics Decks, are they worth $17 per deck? I think they are. The 2008 summer Olympics was held in Beijing, there was no reason to have them produced by USPC. These decks were produced and released officially by the host country. 499 NTD or 800 NTD is not a problem if I want to add them to my collection.

648
ditto, I wash my hands before handling them, make it a good habit to put the cards back into the tuck boxes, and place the decks in the electric dry cabinets to control the humidity when I don't use them. Besides, I don't need card clip or card press.

649
wow more guessing games? i couldn't even handle the first one. u guys gonna give us more hints! even D&D is more generous while revealing their decks!
1. One-way back
2. Two decks in tin box
3. Casino decks
4. Atlantic City
5. 1977
Well my first though is Golden Nugget but I have no idea.
Yes! Golden Nugget AC edition :D
