Playing Card Plethora / Re: Scarlett Tally-Ho No.13 by KWP (coming soon)
« on: November 11, 2014, 11:01:34 AM »
Anyone have any idea how "limited" these will be? Anyone wanna guess how much these will cost...8, 12, 20 a deck?

I hope it's not insanely limited to 500 or 1,000 decks. That always makes it rough on the wallet. Hopefully there will be enough for everyone and enough for those of us who want bricks of a wonderful red back. ;D I guess who could just ask Jackson though, he'll probably let us know. :P
I'm guessing limited to 1000 from the blurry seal, which means bricks may not be available or may cost a lot, like the Hive bricks.
I hope these launch soon -- I'm going into Kings Wild withdrawal...

I think this category should examine a designer/team for all their decks that first shipping during 2014.

Uusi would be nominated for Pagan and Hotcakes.
Jackson for all the 5 Sherlock Holmes decks, Civil War, The Independence, Tally Ho, 52 + joker.
Rick Davidson for Origins
Paul Carpenter for Zenith
etc.

I gotta nominate Jackson Robinson for his body of work.

Design & Development / Re: 15th Century French Deck
« on: November 05, 2014, 04:55:30 PM »
Will this deck have a name, or is it simply known as "15th Century French Deck"?

I strongly applaud your decision to NOT use faux aging in the design.  I see too many decks with it these days, many for no good reason as they take away more from the design than they add.  It's like Westerns in Hollywood.  Everyone expects the buildings to be made of weathered, split clapboards with worn paint, dirty windows, rusty metal, etc., despite the fact that the movie's setting is much closer to the year they were first built than the century-plus since then that they spent exposed to the elements...
I strongly agree with this. Some recent decks with gorgeous artwork are simply not appropriate for poker or bridge because the faux aging makes recognition an effort when one should be focused on the game itself.

I think the Best Uncut doesn't really deserve its own reward -- there's nothing that really distinguishes a deck of cards when it is uncut.

I think that a cool additional reward would be for best ad cards. That would allow a great competition between Jackson for Independence and Uusi for Pagan or Hotcakes.

I nominate the metal antique copper finish planchette, and wood double-sided spirit board/authenticity placard from Chris Ovdiyenko 's Oracle deck:

Although Paul Roman Martinez's Flight Logbook is equally awesome, as is the Pagan calendar and the Hotcakes coloring book.

Since I presume that a deck can be nominated in multiple categories, I nominate the 52 Plus Joker Club Deck by Jackson Robinson and Expert Playing Card Co.

« on: November 05, 2014, 02:35:05 AM »
Don,
PurpleIce nominated Uusi Redux Box in reply #14:
"I'm just wondering if we could have printed paper brick boxes in this category and wooden boxes in another, either with accessories, or a stand alone by itself. I have a wooden box that could hold 3 decks + dice + whatever from seven seas deck, and that, i believe, will fall under accessories. And if wooden boxes are ok here, i will nominate Uusi's Redux Box."

I'm the one who nominated Hotcakes box, so I can't second it.
I do hope someone DOES second it, as you did say that you'll be separating out paper bricks from 'furniture' bricks, so there is no conflict.

In the interest of vote consolidation I won't be nominating Uusi Pagan box, which is even classier, IMHO. Peter Dunham does great work.

I second this!

Hey Don/Rose, can I second someone else's nomination if I nominated something else?

I'll nominate Brain Vessel Creative, creator of seven seas deck. I say they deserve a chance  ;)

Illustrated by Jason Kreiger in collaboration with Douglas Koozer and written content by Matthew Fishgold
Seven Seas probably also qualifies as an Art Deck.

Guys, please remember we're nominating PEOPLE for this category, not decks.  You can mention the deck(-s) he or she made in 2014, surely, but it's the artist that's getting the nomination.

I will nominate Stockholm17 for Requiem, Heretic and Card Launchers No. 17 Deck.

Their first deck, Requiem was Funded on Kickstarter the 10th of February 2014.

We are NOT going by date funded - we are going by date released, either by retailers or to backers.  If it was distributed in 2014, great.

Based on what Bama said, I take it Lorenzo and Stockholm17 are the same entities?  I know it's not always possible but try to give as complete a name or set of names as possible - and in the case of groups, we need the specific designer(-s) in the group that did the work, or the names of the members of the group if they all participated.  (In such cases, a group that worked on a deck together can be nominated as one.)
Yes, Lorenzo Gaggiotti. I second his nomination.

I don't mean to imply anything negative about Bloodlines. I have several Empire decks, and backed the Bloodlines campaign and look forward to getting my rewards, including a Warrior.

Its just that a December promise date may be hard to keep, and the last update stated finally, the Warrior is a go, which gives me pause.

I have received my Hotcakes brick boxes, and have bought more from the uusi.us website.

Kings & Crooks "Empire Bloodlines"

A Jackson Robinson Deck (pick one for me please)
Bloodlines may not ship this year...

Fed 52 part two shipped end of 2013, so that's out too.

I gotta go with Hotcakes, they put a smile on my face every time:
