Playing Card Plethora / Re: Year of the Snake Deck [UK Card Company]

Seriously, this looks designed in MSPaint.

I feel like I'm back to the 90s when Cliparts and WordArt were awesome.

I like where this is heading to, but the courts don't look good to me with that raised box effect (not sure how to call it - 3D pop out effect, maybe?). I think the deck can perfectly go without it.

The jokers are nice, the idea behind it is very good. Some may have trouble recognizing that reference, though. That isn't a standard computer mouse, you know...

The tuck box is perfect, as I stated before.

P.S. Oh, and I wouldn't use green on the court's faces. That queen looks like it's possessed by evil forces or maybe just nauseated.

Just an FYI for anyone who didn't know...like me. if you ordered through the aloy website and payed with paypal you need to go back into the website account info and populate the order with the paypal info. I just checked today to see if my items had shipped and realized this. If you guys haven't received your order shipping info that may be the reason. ;)

I too thank you for the heads-up. I'd probably wait the next month before I realize I was supposed to go back there and somehow confirm payment. That is very unnusual when you pay through PayPal.

Aloys Studio should have made things clearer upon purchase. That was kind of lame.

Now that's some good news: brand new Encarded deck. My expectations are high!

I hope we can take a better look at it soon, I'm very curious about what's going to be Paul's take on the courts this time.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Bicycle Grid 2.0 from 4PM Designs (KS)
« on: March 09, 2013, 03:06:49 PM »
Well, guys, keep in mind Kickstarter is all about supporting initiatives from indie companies and individuals. It's nothing like a retail store, so it can be very misleading to make unhewn comparisons.

I pledged for The Grid 2.0 because - first of all - it's a cool looking deck; second cause it's a very fair price. I don't really care about the ink or other innovative features, but I appreciate the fact that 4PM is always trying to make something fresh.

Sway, go here http://midnightcards.bigcartel.com/product/custom-brick-boxes and you can get those boxes from Randy for a very reasonable price, and they're gorgeous! I have bought some recently myself.

Hey, thanks for pointing that up. I didn't know the brick boxes were still available for sale. I might grab a purple one later.

But, as Don noticed before, I was just wondering how cool it would be to have half-brick boxes of all Ornate 'flavors'  :)

57
I see 03 on the aloys site but not 04.  Where to get 04?

I read somewhere it's probably being released in May.

P.S. I've just ordered a brick myself.

This is the rates on their website at the moment as of today (7/2/13 1400 GMT) hope that helps

Apparently their rates were increased for the release of Truth Garden 03.

No responses from the custom 6-Pack Boxes?

I loved the idea. Those little custom boxes add a lot of value to the product and are perfect to display. I just wish we had little Scarlet & Sapphire boxes to go along.

And yes, the cards are awesome too.

I really liked all their decks so far, but kind of unsure on this one.

That back design is perhaps what is pushing me away. I hope that isn't final and they somehow improve it (maybe still using the idea of the Ouroboros). Thinner borders would also be desirable.

Edit: Yeah, I just noticed it's $15 for a deck PLUS some high INTL shipping rates. I'm out.

Beautiful. Randy is truly a master.

I'll vote for the Diamond on the tuck. It seems to go smoother and more elegantly with that kind of pattern on the back.

Design & Development / Re: Kickstarter Decks
« on: March 03, 2013, 03:27:48 PM »
For me, I want to see a superhero inspired deck featuring characters from DC and Marvel.

A well-design superhero-themed deck would be fantastic, that's for sure.

That is something you wouldn't see on Kickstarter, though, mainly because of intelectual property issues. Licensing costs would be too high for a KS project, but maybe there's a small chance Marvel Entertainment (Disney) show interest on that. If that ever happen, I bet it wouldn't be USPCC made, unfortunately.

I just had to comment on his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1VivpeqnXI&sns=tw%20

Funny thing is he is using GoldWin Poker playing cards on his video (you can even see the card's box over the table on the right side of the video). So it is already commercialy available and there is definitely nothing new about these cards.

Oh, and that thing on finding female models on twitter is hilarious. At least we can get some entertainment out of this.

I'm unsure on how I feel about that back design. Apparently the artist tried to make his own version of a Maiden Back incorporating elements of his father's artwork. Can't really say I dislike the product, but I think it lacks a bit of attention to detail.

Court cards - in other hand - are looking good to me. Am I seeing things or some of those Queens look a lot like Audrey Hepburn and Bette Davis?

All Black Club members were sent a deck courtesy of Daniel (and us, of course) - this includes international customers.

Now that is what I call CRM.

I'm pleased they didn't ostracize us international Black Club members  :D

I'm starting to think Kickstarter is the worst thing to happen to playing cards since...

I respectfully disagree with you, Xntrix.

Kickstarter may be one of the best things that ever happened to playing cards. Sure there are lots and lots of awful projects out there, but that is supposed to happen since everybody can take a chance. And that is the beauty of it. We're staring at a profusion of playing card projects and some of them are really really good - good enough to become personal favorites, I'd say.

KS is an awesome tool for consumers, who are now able to dictate which projects/decks they like and would like to see funded. And it's an awesome tool for designers, artists and indie companies as well. Kickstarter allows great visibility to projects and companies, and payments are secured by Amazon.

To try to keep it on topic: I like this Mythos thing and all, but this is perhaps the 4th lovecraftian-themed deck I've seen in less than a year. And yeah, the art sucks and it is very unlikely to get funded.

Nice review and thanks for sharing that.

The decks really looks good and will go all Ying and Yang along with Players.

I just hope it's an unlimited released 'cause my wallet is telling me not to stockpile this time around.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Steampunk Cthulhu is out on KS
« on: February 16, 2013, 11:21:47 AM »
I always wondered what the spawn of a Steampunk deck and a Cthulhu deck would be.

Now I know it is not a very beautiful thing.

69
It's an interestingly odd deck and I think it would be cool to play around with. Still, I also can't think of a way to use a FULL mirrored deck in a trick.

Also, I can't see why would one get an AIP Bottle of the Mirror Deck. After all, it's a plain Standard Bike tuck and its attractiveness is on the cards itself.

Someone else stumbled across it before you - check the existing topics before making a new one, please.  I'm merging this with that one.

Oops, my bad. I should have checked more than the first page.

I've just stumble upon this project over Kickstarter. It's a gaffed double-front deck and may appeal specially to you magicians out there, check it out:

Oh wow, beautiful tuck and back design. The courts are looking great too, but I've got to say that those are some pretty ugly Queens.

73

Now that I have these in hand (Thanks for the fast shipping, BMPokerworld!), I have to say I'm a little disappointed.  In hand, the back design is very dull and faded in color, the skulls blend in with the background and the snake is a dirty brownish yellow.  Looking at the pictures from that post, it's now obvious to me that the picture was lightened and retouched.

Thanks for the heads up. And yeah, it's a big let down for those who have already purchased the deck.

I think the major problem here is that Alakazam's advertised cards are very different from  their real cards. It's a very serious thing to mislead consumers with images that conceal production mistakes.

These are now available fot Black Club members.

Be aware that the Blue LTD are actually UNLTD now.

Which means the rest of the world gets a crack at them tomorrow...

Yeah. Great deal for Black Club members, as usual. We've got this amazing opportunity to buy some unlimited decks 24h ahead. Hooray.

Any ideas on the price of this deck?  Or the price of the red ltds when they came out?

Blue LTDs are $6.99 for a deck, but you get progressive discounts on higher amounts til 15% off.
