I pick up decks from all over. I go to a lot of estate sales, antique stores etc.  I like the artistry but I love learning the history of them as well. To me that's what it's about, not the value or the cost.

My wife has already ordered a copy for me but I appreciate the offer.
Is their any other resource material you might recommend?

The IPCS requires a paid membership, just under $50 for a year, but no guarantee as to whether or not the information is there.  I have been known to gamble playing cards but not while researching them.  I have not been deterred though, I have continued my search but I believe my best bet is that someone might stumble upon this topic who can enlighten me.

I will post a pic of the ace shortly.

I found the info about the ace of spades illustrations on WoPC but the context beyond that was very limited.

I did not want to start another topic so I figured while I have your attention on this thread maybe you could answer another question, well maybe two.
I have looked and looked but I can't figure out how to date a deck of Thomas de la rue cards from England. I have figured out how to narrow it down by the graphic on the ace of spades but 1862 - 1950 is not quite as close a figure as I would like to see.
As for the other question. The Hochman encyclopedia is only American cards?

Wow!  Thank you.
That was a great bit of info and exactly why I'm already addicted to this forum.  I've spent hours just reading some of the conversations and absorbing what I can until my brain feels like an over saturated sponge.
I have a lot of decks that I need to go through because to tell you the truth I'm not exactly sure what I have.  I also need to get my hands on a copy of the Hochman Encyclopedia.

I was wondering if anyone might know anything about these cards I picked up at an estate sale. I know they're not anything ancient and may not even be that rare or hard to find but I was wondering if someone might know something about the cards or the place they represent.  They are some of the nicest feeling cards I've ever handled and these pictures do not do them justice.

Don't mean to sound too harsh but these cards remind me of educational cards made for children to learn their numbers and letters.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm new to kickstarter. If I am wanting to pledge for the silver backs only, do I just wait and see if it hits the $25,000 goal?   Will they add pledge options for them then?

Looks like I'm going to be the proud new owner of some Frontier decks. It was $56 past the goal when last I looked. My first kickstarter decks...

I have 5 of the 30 decks and I wouldn't label any of them awesome by no stretch of the imagination, either.

I found where you can add pics to your profile and posted a few there. Just some I had taken from my phone when I was in the process of building a display on my walls.

Introduce Yourself / Hello
« on: July 06, 2014, 12:21:58 PM »
Hello all,

My name is Will from Oklahoma.  I have always had an affinity for playing card games for as long as I can remember. As a child I learned and played every card game I could and as an adult I am always open to a game of cards with friends or family. Only a year and half ago did I realized the artistry and history that playing cards portray when  I stumbled upon some old congress decks at an estate sale. I have since collected with a fervor.  I have cards of all kinds,  from many eras and genres. I love them all. New or Old it does not matter to me. I stopped counting after 1000 but that's because I add so many so often that it's hard to keep track.  I stumbled upon this forum via a search engine while searching for others with like minds and similar interests.
