Playing Card Plethora / Re: what im getting for DOTM

After the winner last month, back to the ho-hum: Blue Arrco from Ohio. A nice, useable deck, but rather old IMO.

Aren't those $20 per deck now though?

No, more like $18-20 for a pair. This is decent if you don't have it, but I'd prefer something fresher, or a lot older.

After 3 months of meh, they finally sent a winner. A good one had to be coming and I'm very happy with this. I don't have any of them and I wasn't interested in paying for the stripper deck deal to get one.

Pit Hartling is a German magician. He was one of the Flicking Fingers group. He speaks, German, Spanish and English. He is very good.

A link to info on the deck. It sells for about $15.00, not including shipping from Europe.

I don't think this is the video you were looking for, but it is about conditioning the sides of a deck so perhaps some may find it useful.

Second deal is better because you're guaranteed on within the 4 hours of purchase. First deal you  had to be within the first 50 customers of a potential thousand.

That doesn't make the 2nd deal better. To compare which is the better deal, let's say they offer them concurrently. Buy $100 worth of magic, cards, etc. and get either of these - your choice:
1. A signed/numbered collector's box with five V1 decks which includes the Gold Crown.
or
2. A Gold Crown deck

Which would you choose? That's the better deal. The likelihood of success in acquiring it doesn't affect the quality of the deal.

At least the 1st promotion gave you the whole collector's box for $100 -  5-decks in all, so it was a better deal. It will be interesting to see how many gold decks end up for sale in a few weeks.

from DON:
Wait a sec - you think that of these two deals:
1) Pay $100 and get a box of five decks, including a Gold Crown, or
2) Buy $100 of products and get a Gold Crown FREE
that the 1st deal is BETTER than the second?  If so, I have to make a store fast and get you to be my number one customer!  You can sell the $100 of decks, books or DVDs if you don't want them, and the Gold Crown is 100% FREE aside from shipping...

from DelMagic:
Well, yes I consider the 1st deal far better than the 2nd. What are seeing that I am not? 5-Free Collectible Decks in a Signed/Number Collector's Box vs. 1-Free Collectible Deck. I'll take deal #1 all day at your store if you are offering both.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Ink to stock ratio: It's not a thing.
« on: August 08, 2012, 09:45:10 PM »
Well, I asked USPCC about the ink base:

I am a magician and playing card collector. On one of the forums I visit, people were discussing the impact of the amount of ink on a card and how it handles. I'm not looking for an answer on that question.

However, I was wondering if the base liquid used in the ink solutions you apply to playing card stock was water-based (aqueous) or solvent-based (organic). If it isn't a secret, could you please let me know what it is in general? I am not looking for a specific recipe or formulation which I realize would be proprietary. I am just looking for a general description.

Thank you.

Their answer (not exactly helpful):

The inks we use to print our cards are based on the conventional lithographic process.

The majority of information from basic ink research would provide a good understanding of the art.

Consumer Relations

Does anyone know if the inks used to print playing cards by USPCC are aqueous solutions (water-based) or solvent soluttions (organic materials)?

Playing Card Plethora / Re: What was your first deck of playing cards?
« on: August 06, 2012, 12:12:24 AM »
My first upscale deck was the Bicycle Guardians. I wasn't quite as adventurous as some of you. I bought them from Amazon and probably got a few other things to get the free shipping.

I remember my first foray into really premium decks: I bought the brown, violet and red Wynn trio on Ebay for $70. Insanity had crept in. Just a few months before that I couldn't have conceived of spending that kind of money for 3 decks - maybe for 3-dozen.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: GREEN Jerry Nuggets Playing Cards?!?!
« on: July 23, 2012, 09:34:28 PM »
The Green Jerry's were issued by the Art Fighters Playing Card Company. They had some interesting ideas in deck production and selling that brought out much disdain from the Discourse crowd. I'm sure you can search for the threads and find them.

You can go buy the 4th (of five) Miracle decks that they are selling for $3000. You had better snap it up quick because deck #5 will cost you $5000 and that's all they are ever going to sell. However, if you wear your deck out you get to send it back for a replacement deck  100-times in 25-years. You just need to stop using them when you hit the limit of replacements or years.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: NEW DECK - Red Jaqk deck
« on: July 21, 2012, 09:16:07 AM »
Regarding the pics of the box/cards on the JAQK site, only the box shows up when you open the page. However, you can scroll through other pics of the actual cards and they are still showing the first deck with the one-way back. I"m sure they just left the pics up and never made new ones for the new T11 2-way back version.

I sent them a message the other day myself. The decks you get off of the normal sale website are the T11 version, regardless of the picture. They did have some of the original decks with the yellow seal and red seal left, but you have to order them yourself by message/email. They will then send you an invoice for the decks. The decks were $25 each when I contacted them plus shipping.

It's not awful, but not worth it. And why do the deck colors not match the box colors? Not a good "feature."

Pit Hartling does some awesome stuff. I have a VHS tape of his work and I don't plan on getting rid of it, like I often do with other magic VHS tapes.

Flat rate priority mail shipping (small box, envelope, bubble envelope) is $12.95 but only to Canada. To everywhere else, the cheapest flat rate is $16.95.

You can ship a single deck by First Class mail parcel for a good discount, but with a sacrifice in speed and without any "in the U.S." tracking.

Humidity and heat can ruin decks quickly. You want to keep your decks in a cool and dry place. I assume the heat isn't that bad in your place, but if it is humid, look into a dehumidifier or air conditioner.

Truly, I missed all the "hype" on the new decks from Dan and Dave. I just don't visit the areas where the hype was spread, I guess. Over at UC there was some people discussing some pics that had been released, that's about all I knew and I didn't even pay much attention to that. It just seemed like a low-key release from my end, and heck their computers didn't even go down so I would say it worked out OK.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: NEW DECKS -- 3 New Bicycle decks
« on: June 10, 2012, 10:19:50 PM »
Actually, since Meir's Wounded Warrior 3-pack shipped for free in the US, it wasn't really a bad deal. Most sell the deck for $4.95 + shipping anyway, so I won't knock him too hard. (Though I did buy mine from Bicycle when they had their 10% off sale.)

As for these decks, I like them, but they aren't anything super. I'm sure I'll pick some up and I really appreciate the green deck. We have a lot of blue and red, and in recent years black and white decks are common, so anything that varies from those colors is a welcome change.

I wasn't a KS supporter, but I did buy through your website. I also picked up some of the Signature Edition clips which were delivered about a month ago. I just received notice of the deck shipment yesterday! Thank you!

It's interesting that I had changed my post and choice from Seronda to the Artifice V1 almost immediately after posting it. Before reading Nathan's comment, I came to the conclusionthat people probably wouldn't consider it a borderless card. And my post, which was barely up for 30-seconds has been copied quite a few times. It just goes to show the memory of internet.
