Yeh they are very popular recently. I actually didn't want to do them but my colleague persuaded me. Besides, people wanted them so I got to make the people happy.

That's nice to hear about "Nedronomicon" but what about NeCROnomicon?  :))  You must be excited if you're mistyping your project's name...

lol I never noticed I spelled it wrong, I just edited it.

That's great to hear. I'm glad our deck could help motivate someone to fulfill their goals. I work in the motion picture industry and specialize in horror so your deck was kind of a no brainer for me. I wish you the best!

I actually dig this, especially how the courts look like Kathy Bates, Heath Ledger/Joker and Charlie Bronson, oh and cant forget vincent price. I've pledged but I do agree that for a first time deck, the price is a bit steep. I would contemplate an uncut and deck but i'm up in the air.

UPDATE: As of 2:30pm EST, kickstarter is giving us some issues reviewing the page. For the last 2 days the project page has been ready to launch but remained in "pending limbo". We thought it would've been cleared up by now but nooooooooooo. so we're waiting on a reply from the kickstarter staff concerning the hold up. We hope to clear it up soon so stay tuned for info. We'll be back on here before 6pm if we still haven't heard back from kickstarter.

EDIT: GOOD NEWS!! Everything is back on schedule. Be ready, it's coming!

Yes that is true. It's a matter of professionalism and timing. To release Cthulhu Calls at the same time wouldn't be fair at all. Luckily we had Necronomicon ready. Actually did us a favor because we preferred this design.

Be sure to catch the early bird rewards!

After the recent change of plans, we bring you NECRONOMICON. What was originally intended to be the 2nd deck in the MYTHOS series is now the 1st. This deck will feature many of the same specs of the now delayed Mythos: Cthulhu Calls Deck. Magick Finish, Bee Quality paper stock, Hand drawn designs, rich colors and plenty of stretch goals to make this a fun project. Keep an eye out for details.

PS. That is eastern time

The moment I saw them I thought Verve launched a kickstarter for a rerelease or something. They're nice but a little too brave considering the Verve is still a well known and new deck. Sweet faces but Not a fan of the backs at all. Actually reminds me of that spider kingdoms deck that was on kickstarter briefly.

Thanks for the feedback Don. We are definitely working on bringing them out more. Here's an example of a newer glow separating the pips.

UPDATE:
Due to the recent launch of a separate Cthulhu Deck this week, we have decided to push back our release of Mythos: Cthulhu Calls. Even though we had mentioned to people we were aiming for a late september kickstarter launch, we have now decided against it. We feel it would not be fair to release two similar themed decks so close to each other. HOWEVER! Mythos: Cthulhu Calls was intended to be the 1st in a series of 3 "Mythos" decks inspired by Lovecraft Mythology. A series we would hopefully launch as time passes. The GOOD NEWS is we will still be releasing a deck in the same timespan. Now, the deck intended to be the 2nd in the series will now be the first, with Cthulhu Calls coming out later. So we are currently reworking the designs and elements which were appealing to Cthulhu Calls into this deck. Since we are in the development stage, this would be good time for suggestions on what you think worked and didn't work with Cthulhu Calls. More details of the deck will be released soon. For now, here are two teasers of how we're implementing the Cthulhu elements into this deck.

Thanks for all your continued support!!!

In partial defense of Robert, I'm sure he isn't intentionally spamming anyone. I've had issues with doing business with him for products in the $1000s. I don't think he's an evil grinch trying to steal people's money, he's just a guy who is trying to do some work in a subject he enjoys. However, the issue is his severe lack of business experience and knowledge. Anyone in business knows NEVER spend your customer's finances until you know their product is received in whole. Unfortunately for Robert, and his customers, he seems to let the funds slip through his figures before his commitments are fulfilled. Thus making refunds problematic. He's a nice guy, I just believe he is not well informed with business matters.

UPDATE:
We are working on a new design of the Limited Edition foil tuck box for Mythos. It's something that has not been done before and the USPCC is now working with their former printers to develop the special foil tuck for us. It's a first for custom decks. Hoping it turns out great. The only downside is that it may also make the Limited Editions one of the most expensive decks in cost. We are also planning to only have 1,500 made, with approx. 1,000 available through kickstarter.

Stay tuned!

Am I seeing what I think I'm seeing - an off-white-on-white pattern in the back borders?  If so, it's intriguing.  If not, I need to see my eye doctor soon, anyway...  :))

Yes it's actually a grey tone of all the pips as a border. The demo deck shows up a bit lighter than expected so it's something we might darken a tad in the final product.

Please don't
The barely noticeable affect gained from the offwhite (grey) is fantastic.
I think it is much more insidious when it lurks there just out of sight. Much like one of Lovecrafts other dimensional creatures.

I think you're right. It's just one of those things as a designer I know the details of the image and have a need for every detail to be seen. In this case however, you may be correct, its more effective barely seen.

I actually think this will weed out the flash in the pan decks. Companies who are here for the long haul wouldn't be as threatened considering they would already have a brand that contains brand loyalty among their customers. So getting those pledges wouldn't be as hard as it would for a no name to bring in multiple backers who haven't had a track record. Either way, it's a pointless rule and makes no sense whatsoever. Kickstarter is in the business of making money and cutting out higher backers in the end hurts how much they'll receive from their cut of funding.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Ink to stock ratio: It's not a thing.
« on: August 09, 2012, 01:18:51 PM »
[Something that's known for certain: paper quality can vary even within the same print run,

Absolute truth. With the recent experience with my own Grid deck, I've also noticed a change in seperate decks. The first deck I carried with me suddenly became clumpy and wouldn't fan for crap, yet another "identical" deck I began carrying for the exact same amount of time still comes out the box as it did when i first opened it.

As for the 2 finishes, once again absolute truth. When I began production with The Grid and began prepping our next deck I had contacted 2 seperate people from USPCC on numerous occasions about the finishes and got the same reply, only 2 finishes really exist. In their own words "the rest is just marketing"

I think most reviews are becoming obsolete considering if it's a deck from USPCC it's going to handle exactly the same as another deck (with the exception of "magic and smooth" finish) Personally, at this point, reviews should begin focusing on the design aspects of the decks rather than the handling, unless it's a different manufacturer.

As for the Ink to Stock ratio, logically I would assume the amount of ink would matter. However, this isn't your uncle bobs printing service. So I would think the USPCC's technique would no longer effect the stock. Remember, our fingers don't touch the ink, they touch the finish. So maybe it's the durability of the finish that would effect handling, not the ink. Just a thought.

Wow that's pretty edgy coming from Bicycle. Especially considering they're a "family" business. I'm impressed.

You bastard.  I was working on the exact same thing for the past week.  :-[  Well, back to the 'drawing board'...

In all seriousness though, they look great so far.

I agree with Utterfool. Doesn't mean you still can't release something similar. I've always been impressed with the decks you guys have, especially Brimstone. It was a shame I got into the game after your decks were funded because I would've backed all of them. I think you guys can release a pretty good deck with a similar theme.

Hello gang! The above video is a sneak peek of our follow up to The Grid Bicycle® deck, Mythos: Cthulhu Calls. The next deck from 4PM DESIGNS. This is an early look into the deck's design which we have been working on for two months. All the courts are currently being hand drawn, with about 90% of the deck completed. Of course things are open to suggestion so your creative input is always appreciated.

DESIGN
Mythos: Cthulhu Calls is inspired by the legendary art and mythology of Lovecraft's Cthulhu. Each card has been hand drawn then computer corrected to be as symmetrical as possible. The backs and faces are rendered with stone textures resembling the ancient ruins which have been lost in the underworld city of R'lyeh. Each back with the seal of Cthulhu himself. Familiar to the Cult of Cthulhu, is the infamous chant "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn", riddled throughout every card. However, you don't have to be a fan of Cthulhu to enjoy this deck. We made sure we kept the overall design universal for those who just want a great deck.

The one thing I am really excited to debut is our set of pips, designed to give each card an elegant and ancient look. We decided to focus on a level of detail with the pips that are mostly overlooked by designers. Cthulhu mythology is all about the ancient and undiscovered. So these pips are a reflection of that world. Others have redesigned the pip, we wanted to reinvent it. Something that has to be taken in, instead of simply overlooked. We hope these designs will fulfill that goal.

Every ounce of design contains a hint of Cthulhu's charm. Tentacles, twists and twirls are consistent and cleverly designed throughout. Every card contains a lite unique border featuring each card's specific pip. The back border being surrounded by all four pips. However, like the Mythos of Cthulhu, you must look close to discover the details. Another addition to this deck is the inclusion of four corner pips. Something rarely seen in the custom card world. Now everyone's flourishes will look fantastic, despite your hand orientation.

USPCC SPECS
Mythos will be printed on USPCC's premium Bee paper stock to provide the best quality the world's most popular playing card company can manufacture. Featuring a rendition of a popular finish we call Magick Finish. Each card will be printed with beautiful metallic inks to highlight pips, numbers and designs throughout.

Limited Edition decks will also be manufactured containing Foil Printed Tuck Boxes. These will have a one time limited run of 1,500.

RELEASE
As of now, we are just getting things started with promoting this deck before we launch a kickstarter campaign. Our current focus is getting The Grid in the hands of our backers. Once The Grid is out and about, we will begin to move forward with Mythos. Consider this the sneak peek and stay tuned for updates. You can also see the progression of the deck in the coming weeks though our website at: www.4pmdesigns.webs.com.

PS. The deck and tuck box featured in the video is a demo deck. It does NOT have the same quality the final product will have.
