Design & Development / Re: The second edition of the Lumberjacks
« on: January 13, 2015, 12:11:11 PM »
IMHO:

I prefer darker blue on previous variant of “black” suits.

The Ace of Clubs – I believe both fronds can’t be at such a right angle to main trunk. Try some more natural form of a tree.

The King of Spades – try to make his hair “thicker”. His hair happened to be sleeked too much.

The Queen of Hearts – Changed hair created some disproportion of her overall head. Try to add more hair to her left temple.

The Jack of Clubs – I don’t know what to say – the worst face from the deck. Something is wrong with it. I can only propose to redesign it (face and hair) form the scratch. Also I believe you can pull down a little a shirt-sleeve of his shirt (right hand).

The King of Diamonds – right hand?

The Queen of Diamonds – her arms of a dystrophic are awful (that log should broke them, actually) – stub-fingers. Try to add hair to the crown of her head and make two plaits.

The Seal is really uninteresting. Can you add an acorn (or some stump?) on it? Place the name of the deck on such acorn.

Can you try to hide “the” on the front of the tuck case in roots of the tree? It will be the deck with a small hidden element on its tuck cases :)

This is really a nice deck, even better than the first edition. Good luck.

Playing Card Plethora / Stolen article and photos (pictures)

I have to make this statement:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/D-D-Dan-Dave-Playing-Cards-Stranger-and-Stranger-Dead-Mans-Hand-Ultimate-Deck-/301325192668?pt=UK_Collectables_Paper_RL&hash=item4628618ddc

People, this seller isn’t me. This is a thief who stolen my photos of the deck and my article with the aim to get a nice presentation of the items on eBay. He removed my inscriptions from my photos and composed some of them as one photo (faces of playing cards). Such people are on eBay, unfortunately.

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] Digital Art Masters (Vol.6) #1 Playing Cards
« on: December 14, 2014, 05:25:09 PM »
Digital Art Masters is the project originally launched by 3DTotal in 2005. The main idea was to create a catalogue-tutorial dedicated to 2D and 3D artworks. It should showcase the work of some of the finest 2D and 3D artists from around the world collected during a particular year. As a result the project turned into the series of such annual catalogues. 3DTotal decided to make something special for their 6th volume of Digital Art Masters. They produced a pack of limited edition playing cards to celebrate it.

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] Discoverie Deck by Vanishing Inc. Magic and BBM
« on: December 14, 2014, 05:24:37 PM »
Discoverie Deck is the result of collaboration between Vanishing Inc. Magic and Big Blind Media. The deck is consecrated to The Discoverie of Witchcraft by Reginald Scot. The first edition was printed in 1584. It was one of the first books written in the English language which made serious mention of magic. The book showed a superstitious public that magicians were not witches, but entertainers with thought-out effects and methods.

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] Bicycle Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Decks by Alakazam Magic
« on: December 14, 2014, 05:23:57 PM »
Alakazam Magic is one of the longest established magic companies in the United Kingdom. Bicycle Dr Jekyll Playing Cards and Bicycle Mr Hyde Playing Cards is the new set of playing cards produced by Alakazam Magic in 2013. These two decks are the set because they are connected and have the common general theme – Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. So they supplement each other and pretend to be used in combination.

Deck Reviews! / [TXT] No Name Playing Cards by Mloong Magic
« on: December 14, 2014, 05:22:58 PM »
No Name is quite a mysterious deck of playing cards because it’s hard to find a lot of information about it. In accordance with the press release walking Internet, this is the deck produced by Mloong Magic (China) in cooperation with Cards Dancing. The last one is the biggest Chinese association for the study of card tricks after Finger Dance. They produced the deck in April 2012.

Founded in 1992, family owned Heritage Playing Card Company (UK) has created a beautiful range of illustrated playing cards to entertain and educate. Each their deck has its own thought-out theme.

The Famous Wild Cats Playing Cards is the deck of playing cards dedicated to different wild cat species living in our world. The Heritage Playing Card Company produced these playing cards under licence from Trioview Ltd.

IMHO, you should really do something with indices for this deck. Artworks on faces of playing cards are nice. Can some darker red (for the red back design) and lighter grey (for the black back design) lines be added to the backs? I mean some variation of crossed lines forming diamonds (like Bee backs).

You mention he should "do something" with the indices.  What, exactly?  (You left that part out!)

I think big additional letters near heads of courts are unnecessary. I agree with your idea regarding corner indices.

Design & Development / Re: Updated standard court
« on: December 13, 2014, 03:56:02 PM »
People, don’t force @RJ to design a new custom deck of playing cards. He tries to create an original but standard deck for his playing card company. It isn’t the same thing as his custom cards on Kickstarter. It can be a mass produced pack of playing cards for poker, magicians and cardists.

P.S.
@RJ, try some embellishments (light grey lines) for backgrounds of number cards. I like the Jack of Hearts in general, but, IMHO, there are some small poor details. His axe is too close to his head; try to make the big pip a little bit smaller; try to do something with hearts in the middle of the court – they look strange; maybe add light blue lines to his “blue chest”. Good luck. Quite interesting start.

Design & Development / Re: Bēhance: Playing card designs
« on: December 13, 2014, 03:41:42 PM »

The Jack of Clubs on the East Indian Deck almost killed me!  I laughed so hard I almost choked.
Are these actual concepts or just art?  Cuz I would be all over that one just for my own twisted amusement.  :P

Few of the designs Collector discovers on Behance and DeviantArt ever end up being produced as a deck.  Most were artistic exercises or submissions for an art or design class.  But that doesn't make them any less cool-looking!

@Wil. W, @Don is 80% right on his statement. It’s only 80% because “few” is a relative definition. A lot of recent playing card artworks on my site are even single cards.

On the other hand, there are completed and produced packs of playing cards (irrespective of Behance and DeviantART). I changed my approach to reviews of playing cards. I want to make them interesting and informative. But it takes a lot of time. That is why I still don’t post them. Unfortunately, I can’t find enough time to finish all of them in the way I want. Maybe I’ll have to rethink my approach again and introduce widely some “preview” category on my site or simplify my approach to reviews. In best case, PlayingCardCollector.net is only 60% of what I have in my mind. Some parts are still under construction, some pages are even hidden from readers.

I always indicate if the deck is just an art project. Read the post about East Indian deck and pay your attention to information in parentheses ;) Also you can find out from my “About Me” page that all printed decks you can find in the “Printed Decks” category. Articles (posts) subjectively counted by me as reviews you can find also on this page (by names of decks and by countries):
http://playingcardcollector.net/playing-card-database/playing-cards-index/

I’ve spent a lot of time to create different systems of cataloging and categories on my site to help readers to find information.
All playing card artworks as art projects are covered with the general category – “Playing Card Art”.
http://playingcardcollector.net/category/playing-card-art/

Behance, DeviantART are only subcategories.

Use “USEFUL INFORMATION” page for better navigation through the structure of my site.

@Will W., I agree with you regarding the East Indian deck. I also like Joker.
I can try to contact the artist with a question about possible art prints. Should I?

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Les Printemps by Ricky Smith [DANANDDAVE.COM]

I'm surprised that D&D haven't even bothered mentioning whether the cards use EPCC's classic finish or master finish. Just saying "printed by EPCC" would be fine if EPCC offered only one type of stock/finish.

Right then, does anyone over here know what stock/finish was used? Cheers.

What sense? Mr. Kalush said somewhere that any new deck has its own different handling.

Orange colour on backs could be even better, as well as the "Fantastique" effect on them (read "animation of a growing tree").

He did that in revenge :)

I have a feeling that I saw these pips on some vector stock site. He added neon effect to them and (possibly) created the inscription. For those who hasn't understood - these pips and the inscription are the only custom things in this deck. I think this is more for cardists and magicians.

...It could have only been better by being completely customised...

Agree. But they have their established style. Minimal changes in details of courts is a part of the style. So, no fully custom courts. On the other hand... everything is possible... somewhere, sometime :)

I like how they support artists from their region. By the way, their themes for playing cards are always quite unusual.

My two cents (sorry, if too late here)

EVERYONE!  THIS LIST IS AWESOME!!!

There are decks in here I didn't even know existed!

Thank you, @Don.
