Playing Card Plethora / Re: "Enchanted Tales" deck

Yeah that didn't seem like the coherent, clear minded Don I know.   :)  I worked the overnight shift for about 9 years.  Every weekend was a no sleep bender.  I feel your pain.  No part of your brain works properly after a certain amount of time awake.  Get some rest pal!

Look closer Don.  He's going for the grown up look with these charachters.

A new deck is on the way from the creator of the Alice of Wonderland deck
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jsolorzanoarts/alice-of-wonderland-playing-cards-printed-by-uspcc

"New Fairy Tale Playing Cards

Here's a sneak peak of Red Riding Hood at a very early design for my new fairy tale deck, which I still have to name (Enchanted Tales?). As before, I am open to your suggestions and ideas to help make this new deck the best it can be! I plan on placing a popular fairy tale character on the face of each card - all 53 or 54 cards (depending on the printer). Some of the characters I want to include are: Snow White, Captain Hook, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Jack and Bean Stalk, Rumplestiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, etc - and all of them will be more grown up and are tied to my Wonderland story. This deck will not be steampunk, but rather more elegant in art and design and keeping with the fairy tale fantasy look - I plan to give it my best work yet as the art will be digitally painted. I am still working on the back design (not finished) for this deck, and soon will create the tuck case design.

I want to take a different approach on the royals and all the cards, so I will create a 3/4 to a full pose so I can fully represent the spirit of the character, surrounded by an intricate and elegant border, but still keeping the corner pips close to the edge. I'm considering using a really rich dark red with a reflective silver metallic ink for the backs."

Ok I get your concern now.  I have, on several occasions, backed projects I was pretty sure wouldn't fund just because I thought they were well done.  From that perspective I would agree that you have nothing to lose.   Thanks again for chiming in.  And great work!

Seems like it's free US shipping on both decks so the two day trickle release only effects international buyers.

EDIT: I LOVE the originals so these are getting me very excited.

Yeah, I just saw that when I visited KS.  I wasn't down with this deck until I saw that tuck.  Now I'd be in but it seems moot.  Turned the reminder on anyway.

I think that's partly why it's so hard to get funding. If it doesn't already look like it will be successful, people just don't pledge.

So let me ask you, if you like it, why not just pledge now even if they don't fund, what do you have to lose?

Easy, the pledge price of a deck.  As I said I really only like the tuck.  If I'm on the fence as a backer and I click the reminder I can think about it and I won't miss the project.  If I back now I will forget about it until the email comes that my credit card was charged.  I understand your viewpoint as a designer but with the amount of money I spend on decks I have to make damn sure I want the thing.  Come to think of it should rethink my $40 pledge for AD's PB decks.   ;)  Kidding, I appreciate the debate as well as designers coming here to get the pulse of the market.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Bee Miracle Deck - Coming Soon
« on: November 22, 2013, 08:10:34 PM »
This Quality Bee team is an enigma to me.  On their site they seem to be shocked that there was an international (outside of Asia) interest in their cards.  They have no store front.  You basically have to email them your paypal account.  Then theres the Black Quality Bee Test deck.  Supposedly only 500 printed.  Yet the one I found on ebay (for $250) shows all the necessary USPC legal jargon on the bottom of the tuck.  So they either paid several hundred dollars per to have 500 actual test decks printed...  Or they have a lot of clout with USPC, in which case they would be experts on the card collecting universe and know these would be big outside Asia.  Now comes another release right on top of the last.  I'm not an expert on asian playing card design firms.  I do feel like I have a pretty good grasp on what the USPC pumps out.  These cats just came out of nowhere and they love their Bees!  Just confuses me.  Anyway, GREAT pics!  Seems like these will be nice.

You should check out our winter giveaway :) Another 4 weeks of signed Madison decks to go http://jpplayingcards.co.uk/hashtag-giveaway
And YOU should be posting that in our contest sticky topic rather than here!  :))
But I thought that was the whole point.  :o
If it relates to what someone is searching for, why shouldn't he post it here?... or in both?  :-\
I don't want to break the rules. Please explain, and remember, I'm kinda new here. :(

Hey sharpie, Don is particularly anal about post placement.  It keeps the boards clean and makes it really easy to look for stuff using the search function.  I agree the purpose of this thread is to have someone come out of the woodwork and make your "White Whale" a reality.  With that being said I reached out to a member earlier about my White Whale via PM.  I knew Don would tell me it was in the wrong place if I just replied here.  You just have to get used to hitting off a different pitcher.  Hope this helps.

Nope.  Vietnam was the original Secret Weapon Deck.  Vietnam>Desert Shield>Reprints.  You may be thinking of the original Escape Map Deck.  That was from WW II.

Don you meant this ? Jmrock has them already

I thought these might have been on some people's white whale list: 125 years collector's set

That 125th set is awesome.  I'm pretty sure the box they come in is made with floor boards from the Cincy plant.  Pretty sweet.   If anyone has it they can verify.  If anyone has an extra they can PM me.   ;)

Sharpie, I'm excited that you rolled this topic over here.  I found it riveting on UC.  I was thinking about starting it myself.

The one damn deck I can't seem to get my hands on is the DMC sharks.  I have a handful of decks I'm in search of but that one just seems to elude me.

Hey KD, I'm sure you already know about this, but the Sharks are still available on their site at £65: http://sovereignplayingcards.com/decks/sharks/

Yup I know they're there, it just seems a little overpriced.  I'm going to keep working on getting them cheaper.  Thanks though

Hey Jay, I think I've said it before but you should get that stitch made into a wall mural.

I almost forgot I ordered these...

Dammit!  I thought this post was going to say you finally found them.  Tease!

That is the back of the tuck but the regular Decos don't have that numbered seal or Paul's signature.  Hope that makes sense.

Was very happy to land a single digit number on the Deco collectors ed.  No. 7/100

FYI, Nurul's League Back was at my house for a couple day as I was an intermediary so he could save on shipping.  It almost didn't make the trip across the pond.    ;)  That freaking deck was in PERFECT condition.  Great get for him!

Still available for the same price on artofplay.com
Site is run by D&D so it makes sense.  Probably cheaper to source from here before ebay.

They look great CBJ.  I'm leaning towards doing something like that floor to ceiling.  My displays have become cluttered looking.  I've taken to "bookcasing" decks on top of the long cases.  I'm not happy with the layout anymore.  Thanks for the comment Speedy.  Here's one of the more recent pictures.  There's an overhaul coming soon.
