Playing Card Plethora / "Playing Cards to Publicize Crimes"

My Mom actually pointed me to this article. I think it's a great idea. As many of you know, the U.S. military has long used similar decks with soldiers.

Thank you everyone! I am enjoying exploring your favorite decks. I can tell it is going to be VERY hard to choose :)

Feedback + Support / Admin/Moderator Info Page?
« on: September 09, 2014, 11:28:07 PM »
Hello,

I think it would be really awesome if there could be a whole Admin/Moderator contact page outlining who everyone is and their specific forum roles. I can see at least 5 of you when sorting the member list. Perhaps this could even be a "sticky" (not sure what they are called on this forum) at the top of this "Feedback + Support" thread or maybe even attached more visibly to the main page.

Thank you!

Playing Card Plethora / Re: ARCANA = Awesome Kickstarter Deck
« on: September 09, 2014, 11:02:27 PM »
First of all, when a deck is on Kickstarter, it's no longer in the Design and Development stages, so it's no longer posted on the Design/Dev board - we put it in the Playing Card Plethora.

And speaking of which, there's already an awesome topic about it over there, so I'm going to merge this topic with that one!

Perhaps there can be a separate section of Playing Card Plethora for live Kickstarter decks? The Plethora is such a large thread and the search results cannot be indexed. Further, if you are viewing a particular thread, the Search Box apparently only allows searching of that one thread. (I had been viewing Design and Development...) I will message you more about how other collector websites have solved these problems.

Back to you, Colton! 204 backers and counting = nice!

Playing Card Plethora / Favorite Green Decks?

Here's a chance to show off some of your collection and help me at the same time :)

What are some of your favorite green-colored decks?

I'm in the market for some general purpose decks and quite simply, love green.

Thanks guys!

WTB means Want To Buy

CONUS means Continental US

Evidentially these abbreviations are not as common with card collectors as they are elsewhere.

Thank you.

Hello Card Friends,

I am interested in buying 1 Green Gatorback Deck.

Now, I know these sold for $5/deck.

I will offer $9 PayPal'ed CONUS.

Kindly don't be an unreasonable price gouger. I didn't miss the sale or anything. I only ever wanted one.

Thanks!

Playing Card Plethora / ARCANA = Awesome Kickstarter Deck
« on: August 26, 2014, 09:11:50 PM »
Hi guys,

I recently discovered (and then promptly backed) the ARCANA deck on Kickstarter. It is really well-done! (and no, I am not affiliated with it, although that would be cool  :) )

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1123939555/bicycle-arcana-playing-cards?ref=email

I searched for existing threads on here, but couldn't seem to find any. (If there are, I apologize and perhaps things could please be merged.)

The video is really cool too. Please support it not only because I really want a chance to own a deck, but because I believe designer Colton Marshall has earned it.

Thank you,
Spindles

Thanks Don for your interest and stamp clarification.

I can offer $60 and then ship it all for free w/ tracking (a $8.62 value)

RARE! Aviator Playing Cards

Each deck is sealed with a government issued tax stamp (they have never been opened). This dates the decks to c.1940-1965.

Edition: Bridge 913

There are 12 decks total: 6 BLUE & 6 RED

$6 per deck (or $10 per blue/red pair) + shipping to wherever you are

Take the whole lot and get the brick box bottom they came in.

Thank you for looking!

Gotcha, thanks! I realize that I've used edited photos in the past on here and that probably explains why they didn't give me the same problem.

12
That could be USPC's fault rather than the designer.

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised either. That's why I'm definitely holding onto the deck because the design is still so fun.

Thanks for your reply

Thank you for sharing that interview. It was neat to hear about your background and the inspirations for the deck. It makes me appreciate it all the more.

Good luck with the release, Brendan :)

Dang it! I am so sorry I missed the KS page and even more bummed that the goal wasn't reached. Are there any plans to try again? I'm telling you, I would buy the "Coat of Arms" deck right now.

I also bet they would've been big hits at renaissance festivals. Too bad it takes so much just to get decks printed, before you can even put them out there.

16
It's the first deck I've ever designed so it's been an interesting journey and a learning experience.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your background? Are you an artist by trade? The anthropologist in me is always curious to hear how people end up doing what they do. (Especially when they're awesome at it!)

Have you considered the military? ROTC is great if you want to start college right away. If not, you could enlist and then use the GI Bill.

18
As usual, when I see something that doesn't look right, and it's listed for $29.95 by someone who obviously has no clue what they are selling, I don't feel obligated nor need to tell them, I simply purchase it.

Mike, if you don't mind me asking, what search terms do you like to use? Thank you.

Enjoy that awesome find!

I can see this being a huge hit for university music students.

Kirk,

I missed this on Kickstarter, but am really excited about this deck. All-female very cool! The face cards almost seem like they each represent different sides of the same sorceress:

Jack = mysterious
Queen = one with nature
King = dangerous, almost like an assassin not be me messed with

I do like all the elements on the back, but it might be a little much all together. What if you had birds swarming together to take the shape of a woman?

I'm sure whatever you choose will be awesome!

21
So we got the uncut tuckcase proofs in. They turned out better than I expected.

I love the design on the inside. In general, I think its really cool when decks have a repeating pattern like that -- almost like wallpaper :)

22
Having just received the Independence decks, I find myself eager for yet another war!  (card style of course)

It would be awesome if Jackson kept going through the eras -- WWI, WWII. Or, maybe something could be done with presidents?

I love the sketched look (I'm sorry I don't know the real name of it) of the Civil War and Independence decks, but I'm not sure how well that would transfer to later eras. Hmm...

23
Just realized I've been neglecting this thread.  Rather than post everything I picked up in the last 2-3 months, here's the more interesting ones.

Sweet spotter cards! What year are they from?

24
I have several boxes full, so I'll just post here what is likely the most historically significant deck I own -- from Air Force One. There is an interesting velvet quality to the box (or so it seems, they are unopened).

Here are a few more photos. I'm sorry they are appearing sideways. They are fine when you click and enlarge.
