Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Re: The System, The Trilogy, or Papercuts
« on: February 17, 2013, 11:49:03 PM »
Well, I started off directly with the Trilogy and never really had any discouraging moments. Whenever something would be slightly out of my reach, I'd just watch YouTube videos of people doing it and learned other moves in the meantime. And the tutorials are super easy to follow so it's not really that bad.

As for people not being able to learn from the System, you're not the first to try. Before Papercuts and Genesis, people still learned flourishes just fine. Did they have to try a little harder? Sure. But by forcing you to work harder, you get so much better at the things you do. Because you have to focus so hard to just understand the moves on the System, you'll see nuances that you really won't in things like Papercuts.

Either way you go though, it's not about the individual difficulty level. Practice hard and it really doesn't matter what you get.

Hey there,

I certainly liked the idea of the video (the "story" and all) but I can't say that I found the flourishes very smooth. There were quite a few moments in there where it seemed like he messed up a bit, tried to compensate, and then just finished recording anyway. The way I see it, because it's not an uncut routine, the things in there should have been much cleaner.

It's possible that I'm just very over critical but I like to see finesse within videos and the only flourish that I saw that was pretty well polished was Sybil.

Just my thoughts.

i think the video is pretty smooth ..  you being so humble just make me more jealous of your skills  :-[

Haha, thanks man! I'm not sure how good you are (I've never seen a video :P) but if you're not this good, it won't take you very long to get "here".

How is it sloppy? It's perfect! Would have loved to see a bit more angles and different styles and moves, but very nice job!

Hey, thanks man! It means a lot.

But yeah, I haven't made a video in a while so I was reluctant about using more camera angles. I didn't think I could edit those very well. Even as it was, I didn't think I did a very good job on the editing. I plan on making more videos throughout the year though, so hopefully I get better.

And as for the different styles, I'm not sure I can do that. :P But I'll try and have a few more moves in there next time. I generally tend to spend a very long time on moves before I make a video of them because I don't like unpolished videos. Well, not generally anyway. :)

Hey Guys,

I know it's a little sloppy but I made a new video. Please excuse the terrible editing skills as that is something I need to work on.

Please give me feedback as I take almost everything into account and I like getting better.

Very well written material from possibly the best well-known card cheat alive today.

http://www.magictricks.co.uk/products/1-STREET/4595-Weapons-of-the-Card-Shark-DVD/

This has just about everything that could be of use to you in it; very comprehensive, very good.

No offense bro, but Daniel Madison is NOT an expert on gambling. Maybe at playing off actual cheating but that's his character, not something he can teach you. In the way of actually doing sleights, he is just average.

Although written material is absolutely phenomenal, in order to get a firm base and see what you are throwing yourself into, I suggest getting Jason England's downloads on T11.

I started with those and I think I'm making good progress.

Basically anything by Tobias Levin. Or Henrik Forberg. Or the Virts.

All of them are basically legendary now.

Dimitri Arleri as well. And Spencer...Clark?

I don't really care about the flourishes as I am sure they will be phenomenal but the trailer sucked. Did it look cool? Yes. Did it show us basically any of the flourishes? No.

So, it failed as a trailer. I would have appreciated it if T11 could have made a decent one.

It seems rather simple in concept to me. Just need like 2-3 days of practice.

Yep looks nice sharp and clear to me :)

Though for a $1500 camera you would hope so :P

Yeah, I would have returned it had I not been satisfied with the quality. That would be a huge waste of money.

But I will most likely be making and actual video sometime in the next few months so keep your eyes peeled! By the way, what did you guys think of the flourishing? Was it smooth enough or does it need more practice?

Thanks for the reply! I was really happy when I got the camera so I'm glad the quality was worth the price.

Welcome to the Discourse! Do you collect cards aswell?

Hey! Haven't seen you in a while!

And yeah, kinda...not really. I like cards but never buy any because my parents don't let me. Honestly though, I only enjoy using certain types of cards so no, I don't collect cards.

Hey Guys,

I'm new here (obviously) but I'm on quite a few other forums. I was a mod on DnD before they took their forum down and I am on UC, T11, and others.

Seems like a great, active place and I hope to make some meaningful contributions to the community!

I have been flourishing for about 2 years and I just got a new camera so I hope to make more videos in the near future. Here is my "Camera Test video" so please let me know what you think.

I also do a tiny bit of card magic and would like to get into rubberband magic.

See you all around!
