This is an altogether attractive deck.  But I'm probably not going to buy one.  My wife is from Ukraine so I'm not sure how fond she would be about the deck's design.  Given the choice between this deck and my wife, I'll take my wife every time.  But I'll ask.  I could be wrong and she might love it.

Don, happy wife happy life!  :)

I personally LOVE this deck, the pips are traditional but have been integrated with fun and fond images of Russian icons. Every card has it's own unique picture set on a clean white background and the court cards featuring Matryoshka dolls seems fitting.
Thumbs up from me.

Looks like a Christmas deck.  :)

It's all the red and green in the design.  Plus it's getting closer to that Toys-R-Us (R) time of year...

Well...it is cold over there too...Might suit Santa just as much.

It looks a little like dark olive green. The back will make the green look much clearer.

I actually like this deck as well. Maybe its the colour and the art work, makes the deck so festive and cheerful to me.

The grumpy bear joker is great and I do like the nesting doll courts but the colors are terrible.

Hi Guys!

Thank you all for your comments and opinions! It's always interesting to know what people think about your artwork.

I would love to tell you a little about my design and color choices for this deck.

Nature has always been a common theme in Russian Folk Art. In Russia people believe that different design elements serve as symbols to protect them from evil forces, to bring wealth, health and love. The folk art decorated with endless ornaments and floral designs: stylized flowers, leaves, buds, stems and the like. That’s why my deck has so much floral elements and ornaments.

As for the color choice, I am using 3 colors in Russian Folk Art deck – White, Red and Green.
I did a lot of research about Russian Folklore and traditional colors. I decided to use red, white and green because these colors in Russian folk art were a representation of the blossoming of the earth, and the blossoming of the creative spirit.

RED:
Red is a prominent color in Russian culture and history. The red color represented the beauty. The Russian word for red – “Krasni” was, in the past, also used to describe something beautiful.

Red Square, or Krasnaya ploshad, is one of the most famous examples of the red. Red Square, the most important square in Moscow, sits adjacent to the Kremlin.

Many place names in Russia contain the root word for “red” or “beautiful. For example: city where I grown up - Krasnodar (means beautiful gift).

Red, the color of blood and life, features prominently in Russian folk costumes.
Red was the first color people used for coloring cloth. They started to use it as early as in Paleolithic Period, first for ritual purposes.
It is obvious that red color symbolically means blood and fire. As a symbol of blood, it shows energy flow between nature and human being.
Besides, according to pagan Russian beliefs, gods of Fire and Sun were men. So, red color symbolized Male Power (productive, fertile, defensive) - both in spiritual and physical (practical) aspects.

WHITE:
White is a natural color of wool and linen. People wore white clothes during any period of transformation of their social role. Russian people believed that during any life transition (childhood/teen age, or single/married status) the border between material and spiritual world becomes thin and transparent. The people who must wear white (pure white, without any decoration) were:

- children before age of 7-8
- seniors (after 60)
- brides
- military recruits

Besides, white color was a symbol of motherhood (and of a married woman), in contrast with red - a color of a young girl.

GREEN:
Green is the color of nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. Green has strong emotional correspondence with safety. Dark green is also commonly associated with money.
The color green affects us physically and mentally in several different ways. Green is soothing, relaxing, and youthful. Green is a color that helps alleviate anxiety, depression, and nervousness. Green also brings with it a sense of hope, health and renewal, as well as self-control, compassion, and harmony.

Originally it was supposed to be Green, Red and Blue - 3 decks.
Green deck - Red, Green and White colors.
Red deck - Half of the deck red, green and white and another half red, blue and white
Blue deck - Blue, White and Red colors.

But because it would be too expensive to print all 3 decks, I had to choose one.
The colors look beautiful when you see a real deck but I am open and appreciate any constructive critique!
So, if you guys have any other suggestions for the color, I would love to hear from you :)

Thank you.

Natalia

I love the deck, I am already a backer and excited about the project.
One thing I might caution is that the colors green and red together for many people, as you can tell by some of the above comments, have been adopted as the colors for Christmas and that may turn some people away if they aren't able to shake that association or aren't able to make that work conceptually for themselves with Russian folk lore.
I love that so much thought went into choosing the colors, that makes me love the deck even more. But you might draw in some extra backers without the green. Are there other meaningful colors you could use that would still have a strong positive representation for your deck? Maybe put it to backer vote and ask the people that signed on to get your deck if you have another color you could use, see if people prefer the green or your other proposed color option?

Either way I can't wait to add it to my collection  your design is strong, clean and a fresh style in a crowded niche.

Honestly, I think her sales will benefit from the colors she chose.  There will be people who find the deck and think "Christmas", thus making it a good deck for the holiday season and to give as small Christmas presents.

Perhaps you're blind just to a specific color or combinations of color?

Seriously, am i the only one around here who actually likes the colours used here? I am sure it reminds us of Christmas, but it is still a nice combination of colours. If she used red, white, blue, and i'll probably think Russian-American Folk Art, which would probably have the same effect.

I'm just saying most colour combinations will remind us of something one way or another. I thought the colour combination suits the theme initially and even more so after the detailed explanation from Natalia. I think the colour is ok, maybe not some fancy colours or the black and gold combination a lot of us like, but i think the colours used here works well for the deck.

Everyone, please take note:

Due to a technical glitch, this topic was somehow rendered unviewable.  When Natalia brought to my attention, I poked around a bit and solved the issue.  Please check out her deck ASAP!

See she removed the Bicycle branding to manage costs. I like to tuck better without it, her design is strong and the tuck looks great without the bicycle brand.

I removed the old art showing the Bicycle branded tuck and replaced it with the new art.  Fixed the topic title as well.

This project has just under 8 days remaining - it closes on Friday the 14th at 9:28 PM Eastern.  She's a bit more than $1,100 from her goal.

I agree, it looks great and the "bicycle brand" was unnecessary. I LOVE this deck!
