Their 6th and final deck.
:(
That is a pretty Queen.
-
Holy balls....
-
Awesome, can't wait to see Uusi's take on a Classic deck
-
Beautiful! Even though the queen looks like her neck is dislocated slightly. Still beautiful!

Poses like that were common in some Renaissance paintings.
I like it a lot!
-
I'm excited yet sad to see them release this deck. :-\
Finally the Uusi Deck Set is complete with the release of this, but it also means the end. Really curious to see what they will do next, and hopefully they could still be in the playing cards scene with some collaborations or new releases.
-
I like this :)
Is it me, or does it feel like there's a little russian theme to the deck?

Perhaps. They could also be Polish, Ukrainian, etc. - many cultures in Central and Eastern Europe share such clothing and grooming styles, and I don't know enough about any of them to be an authority.
-
I feel that it's more of a European theme and I'm loving it. :bosswalk:
Kinda sad that it's going to be their final deck though :(
-
Any idea why it's their "final" deck? Considering modern card collecting, UUSI's stuff is some of the most coveted out there. Getting out of the game sort of seems like slaughtering the golden goose... Of course, claiming it's the final, stirring up serious sales and interest, and then coming out with a "just kidding!" would be a diabolically clever marketing ploy.

It is known and stated that Uusi will do a 6 deck set. Blue Blood, Bohemia, Royal Optik, Pagan, Hotcakes and Classic. (Blue Blood Redux counts as a re-make of the first deck).
Of course, they could always say they will make another 6 deck set or something along those lines, but this is the last of their mentioned 6 deck set.
Also, Uusi did not really start out as a playing card designer. Sure, they probably had some nice earnings from playing cards, but i really doubt it is the bulk of their business. Maybe they want to turn back their attention to focus on their main core of business, who knows?

In my discussions with them, they've always mentioned that they were in it for six of their own designs and that's it. It's a great run. I'm going to miss working with them.
-
I'll have to second Don's comment, when I talked to them for their 1-ON-1 piece, while they did say "Never say Never" they were pretty adimant about wanting to move in a different direction and explore other artisitc opportunities.
But what an amazing 6 deck series :)
-
I like the 6 decks they put out, it's a shame the series is over. Hats off to them! Maybe if we BEG! They will design one more, haha
-
These will be nice playing cards.
-
I have a little something to post here. It's a wee bit off-topic, but you'll understand in a little while why it's here and not elsewhere...
Hmm... Looks like I have a package... Damn near wrapped up tighter than Fort Knox!
(Click on the photos to see them LARGER.)
-
Wow - it's a deck of cards! A pack of Pagans!
But what's this... A golden seal... Number 7 of 50... Wow, that's a really small number...
Holy cow - they're gilded! These were gilded by hand-applying 23.5k gold foil - sounds like a lot of work, but look - shiny!!
-
Wow, these shiny cards really clump together when you get them out of the box...
But you bend them a little, they start to separate. See, I separated the entire deck!
You can see me in the next photo losing my first game of Canfield solitaire! One of many, I hope!
Amazing - you can, with some care and caution, even WEAVE-SHUFFLE them! (Just don't expect a perfect faro every time, 'cause it's not happening!) Weave shuffles are torture on regular decks - don't try this at home unless you're very, very careful with your toys... :))
By know you're wondering, "What the hell, man? What's all this doing here?"
Next post, please... :))
-
HERE'S why! I'll let Linnea say it in her own words while I put these pictures up riiiiiiight here...
Uusi Gilded Deck Give-away!! To celebrate the release of our sixth deck, "Uusi Classic," we will be giving away one sterling silver, hand-gilded deck on our Facebook page. The give-away will start on Tuesday, October 21st and end Friday, October 24th - just visit at uusi.us (http://uusi.us/), go to our FB page (the link at the bottom right corner on the homepage), do the usual FB "Like" and maybe you will take home one of these rare decks!! The winner will be announced in our first update for our "Uusi Classic" deck on KS November 1st.
If you check out the photos below, you'll see...
A first look at the Uusi Classic tuck box...
The King of Diamonds of the new deck...
A mock-up of the silver-gilded version of the new deck...and...
A lovely young lady named Annie, a friend of Linnea's, who's posing with a flower as an image study for the Queen of Hearts! Models, yay!
The KS project will launch SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST at 9:00am Chicago time (14:00 UTC).
The giveaway will start approximately NOON TODAY Chicago time (17:00 UTC) on their Facebook page.
As you can see from my lovely photos below (sh'yeah, "lovely" - I need a manicure!), the gilded decks are not just gorgeous, they're actually playable! You really get the feel of a luxury deck when you're handling a pack like this. Amazingly enough, I didn't experience that "stripper dust" effect from flecks of gold flying off the cards and all over me and my stuff - no flaking, yay! I don't look like a five-year-old girl wearing a fairy costume, double-yay! So don't be afraid to crack one open and have some fun with it!
Everyone, best of luck in the contest - and keep your eyes peeled for those EARLY BIRD REWARDS at KS!
Don't forget, many of those mighty shiny decks from the Gilded Collection are STILL AVAILABLE! (http://uusi.us/collections/blue-blood-playing-cards/products/uusi-gilded-deck-collection)
-
That is a beautiful deck, (also beautiful model) it is seriously refreshing to see something so well done. And ooou shiny!!! ;D

Really awesome! I'm looking forward to this deck being backed and shipped!
EDIT: just a little something to add here - a brief review of the Pagan deck WITH GILDING. I post it here because the review is not as much about the deck itself as it is also about the gilded edging. Uusi will be releasing a video soon demonstrating the gilding process.

OH MY GOD! You sound nothing like I thought you would and I have been mispronouncing your name this whole time. I first saw you on video with The Blue Crown BACKSTAGE eating that slice of pizza. I got a much different impression of you with this first review. :)) Well done. You sound very professional. You should do more!

THIS. And this.

Me too! Awesome skills! Also now I REALLY need this deck!

Very nice Don, and like everyone else, would not have put the voice with the face, lol
Beautiful deck though, and your right, the deck holds up amazingly well.

Thanks for the kind words. I did some stage acting in high school, film acting in college (student projects) and I was a radio DJ at an alt-rock station in South Florida. I still have an FCC license that's good for life, back when they still issued them, allowing me to operate a radio station up to 100,000 watts (the maximum power for any AM or FM station). The entire video was me speaking off-the-cuff, no script, though it was probably my third or fourth pass at it.
As you can see for yourself, the gilding on those Uusi decks performs very nicely, better than I would have thought possible. There's something really cool about using gilded cards for a game or even a little magic. It's not a major thing in terms of the deck's design, but it's certainly eye-catching. A good magician could use that - wave around flashy gold-edged cards in one hand while the other is reaching for a prop, another deck, etc. I was honestly shocked that I could weave-shuffle with them - the edges are better than USPC's Mavericks, though I suppose a batch of "disco fries" would also have a better edge than Mavericks... (Disco fries, at least to my knowledge, came to New York via Ireland - french fries covered in melted cheese and beef gravy. It's like spackling your arteries!)
I was hoping to have my face in the video, not just my hands, but with the primitive jury-rig setup I had, it just wasn't practical.
By the way, exactly what (or whom) did you guys think I'd sound like?

I was thinking when you fan the deck that the guilding would show, looks really awesome!!!
I know you are from New York so I guess I expected a New York accent apart from that I don't know what I expected. Seriously awesome skills you have there.
All I know is you make the deck look good, or does the deck make you look good...either way looks good! :)
-
As an added little nougat from your video, maybe people will now actually know how to correctly pronounce your name... ;)
-
There are very few things that would have me up at 7am on the Saturday after Halloween. Uusi is one of them. In for an LE silver gilded classic blue and one of each standard. There goes any budgeting I did this month.

Over 2/3 there in just an hour or so. Another excellent deck from Uusi!

Lets put this to good use. You should host a weekly Discourse Video Chat.
By the way, exactly what (or whom) did you guys think I'd sound like?
The Blue Crown videos were not the most flattering of portrayals. You were chewing on a slice of pizza. Not many people want to be on video with their mouth full of food. That's all I had to go by until now. The comments were not meant as a prejudgment of you. Your level of speaking skill came as a surprise. It was above average. Per your explanation, now we know why.
-
I do notice that most people meeting me for the first time would never assume I was a New Yorker. I learned more English from television than from my parents, it would seem - my speech patterns are nearly devoid of accent, similar to many newscasters, particularly on the national broadcasts. However, I do have a tendency to start mimicking the accents of people I'm talking with from time to time!
But enough about me - now it's time to discuss Uusi Classic!

The cards look fantastic, but notice how fast the boxes flew off the shelves.
Did anyone here score the FRIENDS OF THE FAMILY COLLECTOR BOX -- I missed it by seconds.

Wasn't me, I also missed it by seconds. It was available when I initially clicked. By the time the little pledge thing popped up, it was "sold out".

Pretty much same thing happened to me. I spent too much time reading instead of scrolling to the end.
I'm still trying to figure out the fastest way to pull-up the page on a launch. 'Discover new launched' wasn't working at 7AM so I searched on UUSI and the page was there.
Maybe next time ... except there is no Uusi next time. :(

I had their "Projects Created" pulled and kept refreshing it. But the SECOND the project went live, the router died. After I got it reset just like 5 minutes later, all the brick boxes had been taken. Once I quickly got mine in, I then saw the Friends and Family box and realized I was aggravated I didn't notice it, then saddened because I knew I wouldn't have been able to pledge for it anyhow :-[

I use this link for all playing cards on Kickstarter and just click, "reload this page" over and over again.

I was in right away. The Friends Of The Family Collector Box was available, but too rich for my Blue Bloods.

Don’s “iPhone” video is better than some “professional” videos on Youtube. He just needs to work with its sound and remove some background noise. Well-trained pleasant voice and the best angle for shooting such reviews as you always see cards with the reviewer.
Annie is prettier than any queen in Uuis's decks :)

OK, now you have me thinking of getting a real camera... I should poke around on my Mac to see what video editing software it came with - I think I have an older version of iMovie.
Annie actually IS a queen in the deck, in a manner of speaking!
-
I picked up a gold gilded deck and a few of each color of the regular decks. Looking forward to adding these to my Uusi collection. Now, the impatient waiting begins! :-)
-
Friendly reminder time. Three days left here. With the holidays so close, you may see some of the "All Gone!" become available in the last hour of this project. I wouldn't hold my breath though, so get in on it before you miss out of the KS if it's something you've had your eye on. Last deck in the Uusi six deck series after all.

I finally got time to tear open my Classics. Unsurprisingly I liked what was inside. I've posted a few thoughts / photos here:
