Title: NEW DECK - CARC Professional Bicycle Riderback
Post by: CBJ on November 20, 2011, 03:32:37 PM
Thanks to Hikeeba on UC.

Another new release..

Conjuring Arts' Exclusive
Professional Bicycle® Decks
 with 3 different Reveals!

They look familiar, but they have been built to satisfy the most discerning card handlers. Featuring an unprecedented level of quality plus devious surprises.

12 different card boxes. Each box features 3 different revelations. One card is revealed on the inside of the box and another is revealed over the phone. Best of all, your spectators can watch the bar code transform into the name of a selected card.
High quality casino stock using USPCC’s finest coating and printed on their largest press. These cards are finished to Conjuring Arts’ exclusive specifications.
Built to last, stay flat, and to facilitate the finest card work.
“Classic” box design rather than the current “Standard” box
Air Cushion and Ivory finish (which hasn't been available in Bicycles for almost 100 years!). Mixing creates some devious magic!

Wow, I wish I had one of those boxes

They sound pretty sweet. My question is when will they be released and for how much? Also are they limited?
I'm not asking are they limited because that will decide if I get them or not, I'm asking because so many limited cards that I want are coming out, and if I can hold off on these until I have more money, I will.

Except for the original CARC Erdnase decks, none of their releases have went up in price. They print the decks in quantities of 30k+ as far as I know.

These are $2.99 a deck for CARC members I believe, which naturally for us means a few dollars more.

Hmmm.. I just realized something...

"Conjuring Arts' Exclusive
Professional Bicycle® Decks"

"
12 different card boxes. Each box features 3 different revelations."

Are they releasing 12 different versions of this deck??

Confused

from CARC:

"* At this time no single deck orders. Only available by the dozen, or by mixed gross at present. Each dozen contains 1 each of the 12 designs (6 Air-cushion and 6 Ivory). Each gross contains 12 decks of each design. For the best price, buy a gross."

so..

a red, and a blue of each of the 3 different reveals, in both the air-cushion and Ivory finishes?

2 X 3 X 2= 12

that would make sense.

My guess would be that they mean by 12 different card boxes = 12 different reveals of the bar code.
So like in the picture a Seven of Spades,a Queen of Hearts etc.

From my point of view,as a semi-pro magician,i´m glad that the didn´t put their website on the bottom.
Nothing what a sharpie marker couln´t fix hehe but i hated those website ad´s  from Ellusionist on the Ghost/Black Tiger decks.

Bicycle Rider Backs aren´t common playing cards in europe so i really don´t care much about this professional edition.
Having a card revelation in a "foreign language" on the card case is not a great effect ;-)
So grabbing 12 of them to have all reveals on my shelf....nope,but i would be grabbing 1 of each finish-version for my collection.

At first I didn't think much of these - i thought they were just the usual barcode reveals you see on some other decks. But, when I took a closer look, I realised what it was. Brain-splosion, for a second.

But then I realised how little you can do with these. I mean, sure it's pretty cool, but there is a limit to what you can do with them. I will wait for a price before I make up my mind about this.

I like the idea - and knowing CARC, they're probably on Bee stock with traditional cuts.  But twelve varieties, and only available by the brick?  I dunno...  Am I the only one who thinks CARC is releasing decks about as fast as McDonald's releases Big Macs?  And that they're mostly very similar to each other?  And in two different finishes for each release?  Sure, they're great, but the money needed to collect them is prohibitive - you'd either have to settle for a few or go broke getting them all.  Selling them by the brick is a new tactic to make sure you can't simply cherry-pick some of them!  Me no likey dis tactic...

Its $44 for a brick!?!?!?! I just got a brick of regular bikes for $11.... although these are different, I'm going to pass on them.
Heres the link to them: http://conjuringarts.org/store/merchandise/professional-bicycle-playing-cards/

Actually, for non-members it's $54.99, for members it's $44.99.  Extra charges for international shipping.

Don't have a heart attack yet; when the aftermarket gets them you'll probably be able to get individual decks and not bust the bank on this gimmick.

I just checked CARC - it's on the home page now.  The cards are indeed as I though - "casino-quality" (translation: Bee) stock and cut Richard Turner-style/traditionally.  There's a dozen different reveal sets, six on ivory finish, six on air-cushion finish, further subdivided by red and blue deck backs.  (Isn't that a flip-flop from USPC Legal, allowing a different finish mentioned on a "Bicycle" branded deck?)  In the box the cards are packed in Spanish/Fournier order - they say that people using Mnemonica stacks can quickly shuffle them into that stack from this order.

Oh, and for those that love (or hate) them, two identical four-color Jokers.  I think they look pretty cool, myself.

I especially loved reading the blurb on the box bottom in the right side - "This Professional Bicycle deck is distributed exclusively by Conjuring Arts Research Center.  It represent the outcome of our constant but ever failing efforts to devise the perfect deck of cards."  Constant but ever failing?  Trying to look modest much?

Their front page article describes the cards as $2.99 a pack, less than from the average drug store.  The "buy them by the brick" part comes much later.  And that price is just for CARC members.
