From http://www.krakenrumstore.com/products/kraken-playing-cards (http://www.krakenrumstore.com/products/kraken-playing-cards). No idea who printed them but they look kinda neat.

The way the "US" combine together on the Joker makes me want to say USPCC.

It looks like a playful deck though I have to say I'm a bit disappointed on the court cards if that JoD is any indication. I would have settle for a one way court card instead of just rotating the image over where it's so obvious.

We do some work for Kraken Rum during my day job. They have a really great brand identity. But the odd thing is they recently had us change a couple designs for a fall promotion - removing any Kraken imagery AND even their bottle image. Usually when that happens it means they're about to do a major re-design with their packaging and/or brand identity. If that's true, most of the items in their store would most likely be discontinued. I have the Kraken Rum Book. It's very nice!

Thanks, Randy

$16.48 for shipping one deck to California?

Ouch!

Those look really fun and I would have purchased a deck had the shipping not been 12.61 for one deck.  Ouch indeed!

Yes shipping is indeed expensive

I bough 6 decks and paid for the shipping. I could probably sell or trade a few decks if anyone is interested in getting a deck but doesn't want to pay shipping.

My brother loves Kraken and already has the book as well so these will be a fun deck to have.

Nautical is kind of becoming my favorite theme (even if it is a slightly overused theme) This deck and the HMNIM ones look the best.

It's just the usual number I buy if I buy in bulk. Half a brick is a nice round amount.

How is the deck quality? USPCC printed? I kept trying to email their customer service, but the email keeps bouncing for some odd reason so I haven't ordered any.

Deck quality is average. Probably not printed by USPCC, no seals no USPCC branding anywhere. It's definitely a cool deck.

To have the "US" index on the joker, it has to be a USPC deck.  That's a company trademark.

Well its certainly not USPCC's best stock is all I'll say.  Its a very cool deck to look at its just very smooth finish and doesn't feel quite as satisfying as say... Steamboats.

Also the tuck box is very bad quality. Has the extra long flap that gets bent from the first time you open it no matter how careful you are.

Still, I've always been fascinated by cryptozoology and the Kraken is something that is totally possible to exist (we know more about space them we do about what's in the ocean)

Just my two pennies.

Thanks Don. I thought as well, but it is nice to have a clarification on that.

That really sucks to hear. I wanted to grab a few decks and have one to fool around with. It's a decent price for a semi-custom deck. The Kraken theme is definitely a fun theme though.

I have a few extra. They would be perfect for playing poker. Stock is thick and smooth. Just dont have the nice texture most cards do. Also leads to the graphics on the back looking a little blurry.

It's not a USPC stock at all, or a USPC deck at all.

As a fan of Kraken, and the folks who do the artwork, I had to buy 4.  Works out to just under $9 each, with 11.40 shipping to Kansas City.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Victor, for the joker to bear the interlocking "US" index, it would have to be either a USPC deck or a violation of USPC's trademark.  I have my doubts that a liquor company on the verge of releasing a new campaign would want the legal headaches of using another company's trademarks without permission.

The stock is probably something along the lines of what they use for US-made Streamlines or Aviators: a smooth-finish paper with the standard coating.  While it's not impossible that perhaps it's a licensed Zazzle product, I'd consider the odds of that being the case a long-shot at best.
