Title: Bicycle Johnny Cupcakes
Post by: cosmicsecret on November 12, 2011, 09:13:23 PM
Bicycle Johnny Cupcakes Deck

Handling
At first they fan pretty good, but after toying around with them the fans start to become clumpsy.
When you drop them from chest hight on a hard floor they instantly split on the corners.
The Box says "Air Cushion Finish" but they are slick like plastic cards.
For cuts and flourishes they are great because they stay together in a unit when cut into portions/packets.
Not so great for springs!

Design
Those come with black 808 Rider backs.
A double backer red/black in Rider back design and a empty card are included.
I say empty because they left the indexes and the middle of the card EMPTY so that you can
draw yourself a card on to it in cases of losing a card.
Which is unique so far, never seen this kind of "blank face" cards.
All cards are custom designed. Also you get 2 identical Joker cards.
The overall design is very neat and somehow different to all other designs.

Would the quality of the card stock be better and the finish a different one - i would get myself some more.
I bought 3 decks from the official shop 7,99USD each deck plus 10USD shipping to germany.
They ship out the next day and the cards arrived here after 6 work days - which is pretty fast!

Don´t miss them for your collection - for performing hard core sleight of hand not sooo great but def. a eye catcher!
I rate the deck 3/5 due the lack of a better stock and finish.

I was thinking about picking them up, but as I read about the handling of the deck.
Hmmm, no.

Thanks for the review.

Johnny Cupcakes and Nickelodeon did a collaboration.

I agree i am always sad to find a deck that is visually appealing, but lacks the feel that i like. Although maybe i will invest anyway? They do look good enough that i might not even mind how it handels.

This deck doesn't really appeal to me that much, and it's also kind of weird to. I probably won't be picking up this deck.

I feel the same. I really like the look of this deck and I appreciate the design. I'll hopefully pick some up sometime in the future.

There are some cards that aren't meant for handling, but instead are just meant to be normal playing cards, and I think these are an example of those. For those type of deck I can appreciate the art work more than the handling. It is always nice when you can get the best of both worlds though.

Nice review!

I ordered some as well, though I think my bank screwed up the charge.  I love unique card designs, and this one is unique.  If they don't handle well enough for magic, I'm sure they'd be fine for Canfield...

I just purchased the last five decks of this in stock over at johnnycupcakes.com.  It was a freakin' nuisance - they discontinued USPS shipping for the holidays and I use a PO Box so I had to ship to a friend's house.  I wasn't even expecting to buy so many decks, but since the shipping was stupidly expensive, I say why not just get a few more, and some pencils while I'm at it...

I should have them by the new year.  I'm going to put up a HUGE sale of stuff, and two or three of these decks will be part of that sale.  Stay tuned...

I never did pick up any of these. They looked like nice promotional deck.

I know I've come off harsh and whatnot to you Sabacc, but I do respect you. You have a great deal of knowledge and wisdom in magic/cards. I would like to know what you think of this deck when you get it!

As of how many are printed, I am not too sure. For the sold out part, someone just posted a link.

Hey, it's cool.  I don't take it too personally.

I really love the design - I've never, ever seen such an interesting set of faces before in a jumbo size like this.  They're very unique.  That alone makes them something I'm interested in.

how many of that are printed? and is the deck sold out ?

We don't know.  Why don't you ask Johnny Cupcakes?

The link still works.  I checked it out just now - you can actually buy decks still, but any attempt to buy more than five triggers a warning that you're attempting to buy more than what's in stock.  That's the SAME warning I was getting this morning when ordering them.

Because of the domestic shipping cost, it's not worth it to buy just one or two decks - they wanted over $10, while five decks and four pencils was $12.95.  It's a case of go big or go home.  As far as international buyers, I'd say you're out of luck.  They ship internationally, but if they're this expensive domestically, I'd say you're going to get reamed on the shipping charges internationally, especially outside of North America.

At one point, I purchased what seemed to be the last of these decks in stock.  They're in stock again.  Looks like they keep printing them as long as people keep wanting them.

I think it's a fun deck design.  Like Sentinels, Artifice, Infinity, etc., you'll probably never see another deck quite like it.  The smooth Bike stock doesn't help, but if you're playing games with the kids, so what?

Johnny Cupcakes version 2 is out now at johnnycupcakes.com and also BMPokerworld.

For the sake of accuracy in the New Deck Report, the Johnny Cupcakes v2 deck was actually available late Dec 2012 at their L.A. retail store. bmpokerworld also had it on their site before the new year. Lucky for me, the Tokidoki retail store is just down the street from Johnny Cupcakes, so I was able to get Bicycle decks from both places in the same trip.

I might pick a pack of these up from the official store, regardless of additional price or shipping.
I always love getting unexpected goodies with my decks.

Just be sure you have an address that UPS delivers to.  They don't appear to use US Mail, and I have a PO Box.  My other option would be to pay twice as much at BMPokerWorld.
