Too many pricing choices to list.
The Writhing Dark: The Eldrich Tarot: The first of the three part project is a Tarot Deck, based off of the commonly used and recognizable Rider-Waite model. The Tarot Deck will feature 78 unique illustrations, iIncluding all 4 suits (Swords, Wands, Cups, Pentacles) as well as the Major Arcana. All of these illustrations will incorporate ideas from the community, and some may even incorporate members of the community themselves. With this deck you will feel as though the eldritch lore of the writhing dark is close to hand.
Call of Cthulhu: The Writhing Dark from Bicycle: The second piece of the project is a Bicycle branded deck of traditional playing cards. These cards will feature some of the art from the Tarot deck, as well as some unique art for Aces and Court cards, taking into consideration feedback from the community. Initially the only difference in the editions is the tuck box. It would be great to have all original card artwork in both, however cost prohibits that from being an option right away. All of our cards are printed on the highest quality card stock in the world. Bicycle cards are prized by collectors and players for their quality.
The Writhing Dark: Unlimited "And with strange aeons.

Wait a sec... The only difference between the standard and limited edition Bicycle decks is the phrase that appears below the Bicycle logo? That's the whole difference, right there? That don't seem right...

um... seriously... if the art between the two is somehow different, which remains to be seen (i guess), after reading the KS page and all the tiers, i would have no idea how to get both decks. i see one for each of the limited and the tarot, etc., but i don't even see any add-ons (yet...). :-\ man, i'm kinda scared of what all he may end up adding on for the people who will die for this chtulhu stuff. personally, i'm on the edge of my seat in anticipation of the book written by kickstarter backers! :karrit:

I like the design on these quite a bit, I'm in for 2 and see what happens along the way. The LE's on KS with a "Minimal" diffrence need to stop, either make a true Limited Edition or put in some real nice stretch goals instead....better stock, seals, metallic inks, etc...
I think I would prefer a "Nicer" deck at this point than a LE with one unique card.

Although I do not understand the concept behind Cthulhu, this deck comes across to me as very confusing. If I was to potentially back it, I would be completely unsure which category I would want to choose and why. What exactly are the difference between each category and why should I spend the extra money in backing it for that reason? Also where are the add ons that would make me want to spend more money on this deck than any other?

o.k. good, i was hoping to have add-ons available soon, so i know what i''l have left to spend that month. i looks like the limited deck will be a lot different, now that backing has gone so well, but we will see... i just "managed" to switch to the "1xunlimited, 1x limited, and 1x tarot." fot $72, and added a coin/pendant for someone else. :Di am very happy to see Shane able to make items without the dull albino dragon logo thrown on everything. it just made other coins kinda half-cool, imo. i really hope to see that Shane functions just as well, if not better than he did with Eric breathing down his neck... (this deck/vs/princessbride is no contest, unless you hate cthulhu (to begin with, or now that it's so damn popular and overdone), or love princess bride...) ::)

Yarg, maybe it was my bad but the illustrations for the tuck are totally different. Hordes of squigglies, screaming faces, tentacles cracks and hidden images. I think that maybe at first glance because the palettes are the same it might be off putting. If you get in there though, you'll see :)
As to the differences in editions, other than the art, different seals, I am releasing the embossing stretch for the LE today, with an eye toward eventually doing a separate run for different backs and faces etc. That said since this was my first rodeo I had no idea what the response would be, and even though it has been reasonably good. I want to grow slowly and responsibly so every upgrade adds value, and isn't something that I will end up upside down on, therefore potentially screwing my backers if I run out of funds.
I know you guys are used to a certain level of quality, I can assure you this deck will get the best art I can make. As far as tangibles though, those are tied directly to the performance of the project and what the community wants. Thank you guys for talking about it though, and for the feedback. All of that helps me make better choices. I appreciate it!

Hey guys just wanted to give you a Tarot card 101. I'm sure most of you know the Tarot cards have a 4 x 14 structure with 22 extra trumps for a total of 78 cards. The Minor Arcana consists of the pips and court cards. They are basically the same as our modern day playing cards except they have an added court card called the Knight. The Major Arcana consists of the trumps numbered (1-21) and "The Fool" which has no number or rank. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarot Same as our modern day playing cards we can trace the origin down to "The Rouen Pattern" http://whiteknucklecards.com/nsp/rouenpattern.html Tarot cards can also be traced down to 4 decks. Sorry it's in german but it the best site for seeing all the Tarot cards.
The Visconi-Sforza http://www.albideuter.de/html/visconti-sforza.html
Visconti http://www.albideuter.de/html/visconti.html
Sola-Busca http://www.albideuter.de/html/sola-busca.html
Cary-Yale Visconti http://www.albideuter.de/html/cary_yale.html
All of these were made in the 15th century. I think the Cary-Yale Visconti Is like the Neanderthal of the Tarot. It's fun to look at but not a direct descendant of the Tarot. It may be the first attempt to get rid of "The Popess" card. Which a very controversial card. It's interesting to note the Cary-Yale had 6 court cards. The King, Queen, Male Knight, Female Knight, Male Page, Female Page. Again, It's like finding the Batmobile 500 years from now. Sure it's a car but not everyone drove it. There is a theory that the Tarot started out as a 5 x 14 structure. There is a furious debate going on in http://forum.tarothistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=971 Dont bother reading all of it. These guys are hard core and go off in different directions. To me, it sorta makes sense. If I want to up the vender down the street, I'll put more trumps in my Tarot card deck. History tells up this is true. There is a Tarot card deck with 40 trumps called the Minchiate deck http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minchiate It basically added the elements and the constellations and it was the second attempt to get rid of "The Popess" card. It was very popular up until the 19th century.
The modern Tarot which is the Rider-Waite his genius was to take the old Major arcana of the Visconi and the Minor Arcana of the Sola-Busca and put them together. See the 3 of Swords in the Sola-Busca to see what I mean. He made some other changes from the Marseille pattern http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarot_of_Marseilles in this recent article http://www.wopc.co.uk/tarot/rider-waite/ Most note-able in switching justice and Strength. I do have to tell you this in all my hours of research the best thing I've found is the original list of the Tarot cards by a Monk. http://www.tarotpedia.com/wiki/Sermones_de_Ludo_Cum_Aliis It is so neat to read the honest opinions of a person so long ago. If you notice the "The Death" card has never changed. They that's why 13 is the unlucky number. We are so superstitious we don't have a 13th floor in buildings. It also just goes to show how warped things get over time. Just look at the Jacks we have today. Back then they had weapons we can recognize. Now we have distorted clubs.

Sprouts, please keep the topic on Shane's deck project. I'm using all of my restraint to keep from moving this to your LOLAQ topic...

I see the description of "finest quality card stock".... does anyone have specific details on the card stock used for this deck?
