Title: Beginner flourishing
Post by: Jamm Pakd Cards on October 30, 2013, 05:07:00 PM
I just read a post that someone said they are spending 3 hours a day 5 days a week to master some flourishing tricks. That is impressive to me.  I was wondering what would be a good beginner flourishing trick for me to start off learning?

If you type "beginner flourishing" into the search function while on the topic list for this board, you'll get this topic, but you'll also get a number of posts from other topics that already answer this question.  Remember, search is your friend...  :))

Start with the basics. The Charlier cut, the thumb fan, the swing cut, and the Z cut.

Some good cuts to start off with are the 190 Helix cut and the Sybil cut.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips, I was able to do the charlier cut right away,  I have been practicing the thumb cut and scissor cut right now and they are pretty hard for me.. will continue to practice.

190 helix and sybil cuts are good ones after the charlier's cut.
(I'm a beginner flourisher too, got the charlier, 190 helix and sybil cuts down :D).
Have you tried rolling charlier's cuts? The fundamentals are the same as charlier's cuts but doing them in both hands is hard XD.

I recommend going to the Virts' website and signing up through facebook (which you have to do to see the videos), they have free full tutorials of some nice beginner flourishes. I'm working on the Rev 2 right now.

Learn your basic grips (z, mechanics, straddle etc.). Then very basic cuts such as the revolution, charlier, scissor and swing. And then start learning slightly more advanced moves, such as fans, the faro, the sybil, under pressure, the spring, dribble and a few basic twirls. You can learn most of this here for free; http://dananddave.com/learn/media.
