Man you know I always loved the gangster theme. But that back is horrible. Is that some old wallpaper?
-
I look at this project (there is 5 minutes I will never get back). At the first pledge level
“pledge $10 or more” reads
“pledging 5 dollars will guarantee you a 8.5x11 black and white commission sketch of your choosing, which can either be sent to you digitally. You may check my work out on my behance (in profile) to get an idea of some of my other work”
????? I don't even know what to say

The part I love is when he gives away his profit margin. The body text clearly states his decks cost him $10 each and he's charging $14. So, a 40% markup for cheaply-made cards...
When will people learn not only to stop charging champagne-and-caviar prices for beer-and-pretzel decks, but also to stop PAYING champagne-and-caviar prices for beer-and-pretzel decks...ESPECIALLY when the beer is warm and the pretzels are soggy...

The printer is not the problem here, nor is it that he can't figure out his business model, it is that these cards are just ... not very good. The art isn't bad and it borders on Art Deco which is what you'd hope for in a Gangster's deck, but he should have used more... Art Deco in his design. Also, the courts appear to be two colored with all the same images. That's just lazy. There are plenty of Gangsters to draw upon and i would hope to see an Al Capone, Bugsy Malone or even a Bonnie and Clyde. These appear to just be generic images and I think I've seen similar drawings in a board game about gangsters.
We all learn from our first decks and build from there, in this guys case he's got a lot of learning to do. Is this the first of many crap decks thrown together hoping to get some of that gold that The Name of the Wind has garnered?

Name of the Wind, Federal 52, Misc. Goods Co., you name it...they want it...
Crap floats, right? Where the hell is the skimmer?

The artwork almost looks like it could be 8 bit. Perhaps he'd actually get more support if it followed that trend.

I hate to see artists that have the traditional art aspect of their design down, but completely misunderstand layout aesthetics and digital design.
In this case, the potential for a great deck is very high using those court cards. Unfortunately, the rest of the design takes a 7/10 deck and trudges it all the way down to a 2/10.

I don't know. Why don't you ask one of his 29 backers... Hell, that's not even enough people to fill a New York City classroom!

I emailed the designer- just tying to get info for the NDR

You might get a faster answer from a backer than a creator. Just explain who you are and why you're collecting the data on the deck.
