Just saw this deck on Kickstarter. Gonna be honest, I think if you touch Egyptian art you should do more with it than this. I do not have high hopes for this deck because IMO I think execution is poor and the design is less than desirable. Maybe I am too harsh.

They could have used some more color.

That image appears to be in CMYK - CMYK images don't show well web pages; it's like looking at a negative. He needs to do a JPEG conversion...

I do agree that with an egyptian theme there could be so much more done with this deck. Looking at this got me thinking about how maybe a year or two ago this might have actually been considered a decent looking deck of cards, but with the calibre of some the decks that are being released now this doesn't even come close.

I don't really like the purple color.. I think it either should be completely black/white (kinda boring maybe) or the designer should add some more color and/or detail...
I really like the barcode reveal though! :)

I wasn't much for the color purple either, but Oprah did an outstanding performance...IMO. :P I have to say, I like his add ons, but I find what I see of the cards a bit boring. I need to see more!!

Is it Egyptian clipart?

I think Tutankhamen should have been one of the Kings instead of the Joker. I'm sure with a little digging the designer could have found a better Joker character. Perhaps Set would have been a good choice for the Jokers? There are so many great looking Egyptian Kings and Gods to choose from for this set. I don't think using English/French Kings is appropriate. But, I do wish the designer well.

I'm glad I didn't pledge until I saw more cards. Now that I see that the face cards are not Egyptian I don't care at all for this deck. There was an entire movement of egyptian art at the turn of the previous century and I'm just surprised that none of that was used.
-
It's a great idea for a deck though. I would love to see better execution and thought behind it. Maybe the creators will have a chance to update it with new designs.

I have a major bone to pick with some of the design elements.
The back, the jokers, and the ace of spades just look like a bunch of clipart was haphazardly dropped on a rough template of the standard Bike Riderbacks.
The cross symbol around king Tut on the back looks like the "white pride world wide" symbol.without the center cross.

(I'm aware that the circle-cross was originally Egyptian and Celtic in nature. But the white outline makes it look more racist in connotation. I'm sure that wasn't the intent, but it was a bad design choice nonetheless.)
The Clubs aren't even Egyptian. They look like Celtic Triskelion symbols.

So, in terms of technicality, the deck is just as Celtic as Egyptian.

You and me both.
What tickles me is that the King of Diamonds and 8 of Clubs have these really interesting, stylized indices - and the Ace of Spades' indices are in a totally different and more standard-looking typeface.
Also, for an Egyptian-themed deck, there's a noticeable absence of cartouches anywhere in it...

And here I was hoping to see the mummy or at least Abbot and Costello meet the mummy. :P

The creator canceled it, replaced all of the text, and the key photo is now some bit of romantic art or something, nothing to do with the original deck. Who lit a fire under his butt, I wonder?
