Title: Suprymis Playing Cards
Post by: BastianBJ on April 29, 2013, 06:35:22 PM
Some hours ago some dude I don't know invited me to a Facebook page named "Suprymis Playing Cards". Not much info and not many pictures of the cards themselves.

Limited run of 2500 deck, printed by USPCC
Bicycle Stock and "Amazing Finish"
Designed by Simon Lomakin (the guy who invited me to this page)

Also, the seal comes separated from the box, so you can choose yourself to put it on or not to

By what I can read in the comments, the pre-order of the cards should begin in less than 24 hours from now

Here's a link:

Nice looking back design but seller cold have provided more pictures of the faces to attract more buyers to pre-order. Maybe when its released then there will be more pictures. If not, I'm out.

Or the tuck box, or the seal...  Just the second-most plain card back I've seen in a long time (NOC would be the first, but it's SUPPOSED to be plain)!  :))

This.

Faces are the biggest aspect of a deck imho

I really like this part:

http://unitedcardists.com/viewtopic.php?t=1650&p=19104

He states that it's being done by him and "Illusionist".  The obvious confusion ensued, until eventually the designer reveals he's a sixteen-year-old in Russia (Moscow, I believe) who's RUNNING his own magic shop named "Illusionist"!  So the deck is by him and...him!

Think the shop's choice of name was coincidental?

I believe this is a bit what happened with De'vo's pro-cardistry deck. They didn't show the faces because of the pink n rainbows n unicorns n such..........not sure if this is the same thing or not. I recieved an invite to this event as well plus a friend request from the guy personally.

Eeeek!

I'd say his PR campaign is backfiring a bit.   :mindf-ck:

You can find all the pics here | https://www.facebook.com/groups/287154594750451/photos/

If anybody is interested in this deck, the pre-order is now open. I'll leave the link here for now

http://www.i-llusionist.com/apps/webstore/ (http://www.i-llusionist.com/apps/webstore/)

EDIT:
Still no pictures of the faces, not even on the uncut sheet available on his website! The only picture of the uncut shows the backs...

EDIT (once again):
Our Russian designer just put up some pictures at the Facebook page. I'll leave the link instead of posting the pictures here, since there's 9 pictures of the faces (including the AoS)

PICTURES OF THE FACES ARE NOW UP

The faces: Meh. Arrco faces with a recolor. Been done with the Madison Rounders, and those had custom faces. (Literally)
Ace of spades: Eugh. There's just some wings slapped onto it.
Jokers: These are actually pretty neat. I like the minimalist approach.

Look, the guy said he owns a magic store called "Illusionist" - but his website has two products, this deck and the uncut sheet.  That's not a magic store.  It's more like a shameless attempt to rip off the fame of the Ellusionist name.

He self funded the project and needed a place to sell them from so he started the sight and I have nothing to say about the name.

If it's self-funded, implying that it's completed, then why are his demo photos showing some of the cards and the box made on a cheap inkjet printer?  He'd do better to show the real thing - assuming the real thing's been made.

Well the official release was today. So they must be made

Did you notice he posted on his site that there were 2,500 decks made, of which only 1,000 will be sold this year?  He's not a deck creator as much as he is a speculator, hoping his decks will go up in value due to scarcity.  I've stayed away from other decks for less.

I've seen nothing to entice me to buy this and many things that don't quite add up.  Put me down for "pass".

I'm passing because 1. I don't like the design much.
2. He's Russian. The package will probably reek of vodka

He answered a question on his site where someone asked if he had the decks to ship, he said not until June.  I don't understand what 'JUST WORDS' is on the bottom of his tuckbox.  Do we know what the side and back look like?   I don't see anything I want here.

So, what's the drinking age down Mexico way? 14?  12?  Birth?  :))

Back on target - I don't trust this deck and frankly, it doesn't look all that attractive.

It's 21 just like the USA, but its not very strictly enforced, but I'm kidding. I used to love to sneak a shot of vodka or a martini in the middle of the night when everyone was aslee, but since I found my faith I don't touch alcohol nor do I plan to once I'm of legal age. And I agree. I'm not to keen on the ace of spades, or the faces. Havn't seen the Jokers yet.

Unfortunately @MrMollusk is the only one who understood my “[the quotation is intentionally shorten]

You said that about the person you don’t know at all and about millions people from Russia. Think about it, kid. Also buy Fantastique deck produced by Dan & Dave and sniff it.

Yeah, on that moment I remembered Alex, that send me nothing instead of 48 Vortex decks, I am waiting about 2 years already. I am Russian, but shipping to USA. And still nothing

I believe alex is getting all that taken care of. I know that I was suppose to get another sealed under cellophane vortex, but have heard nothing myself.

BUT back on topic, this deck looks nice but I have to watch what I spend my money on. To many decks these days.

Yeah, on that moment I too have nothing to add to this conversation but wish to butt in with a gripe that I have towards Alex, but it is ok because I quoted a previous text.
Alex never sent a get well card to my wife's cat after it ate that bowl of poisoned tuna I left out for it even though it is a cat but living in USA.

Come to think of it

None of you did.
