Title: 150 decks of Absolut Vodka Playing cards
Post by: wongster88 on April 24, 2013, 11:30:14 PM
Yesterday I decided to do my occasional search on ebay for the decks that I find interesting. Lo and behold, I found this listing:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/absolut-150-packs-of-playing-cards-sealed-/111057969851?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19db9222bb

This is probably one of the best deals that I have seen for any type deck in a while. A grand total of $515 for 150 decks of Absolut Vodka playing cards, you cant get better than that; that's about $3.44 a deck.

Unfortunately, I did not have the money to snag this awesome deal but someone did. So my question is: Who bought it?
If any of you fellows out there bought this, hook a brother up  ;)

This was certainly one of the times that I wished I was rich.

Wow, that is a crazy deal. If I'd seen that I totally would have snapped it up. Even reselling those at a measly $10 (much less than they usually go for) you'd triple your money.

I hope that the buyer didn't buy 500 counterfeit decks! That sounds a little too good to be true!

I wouldn't even know what to do with a gross of standard decks, let alone 150 of Vodkas. Geez. One could profit greatly just selling each for $10.

This has "too good to be true" written all over it...

What the dick.

On a side note, 500 clams for a gross of cards +10 is an INSANE deal, considering the Absolut deck goes for about $30.
Props to the guy that snagged this for $15 shipping. (wat)

...Yeah. That listing's fishier than Pike Place.

Some sellers on E-bay don't know about values on their items.I bet that guy is happy that somebody bought that gross right away.I got tools on E-bay for my telecom work at pennies on the dollar, because the seller didn't know what that tool is for or described properly in the title.Same thing can apply on that auction.

Even so. If you own 150 decks of a relatively obscure playing card deck, you probably know a thing or two. And I've seen $15 shipping for a brick of cards and called it cheap. But for a GROSS of cards? That's insane.
If it is legit, the winning bid made out like a bandit.

That might be true, but few eBay sellers are stupid enough to not do a little research when shipping that much of anything.  Even using the largest USPS Flat Rate box available, it would cost more than that to ship - and most other carriers charge by weight.  You're looking at about 31 pounds of paper, glue and cellophane before you factor in the weight of the box it ships in and the packing materials to keep it safe.  At 50 cents a pound it would still exceed his shipping budget, and that's if he used found boxes and packing materials rather than buying them.  He's obviously supplementing the shipping cost with his own profits on the deal.

The fact that this guy has 1150 feedback and the auction was covered under ebay buyer protection would have been enough for me to pull the trigger. It's on the buyer to determine if they're fakes or not and take appropriate action if necessary.

You make an excellent point.  If only I'd known about it sooner.  But then again, I'm still trying to sell off some Americanas I bought in bulk, so...

Not sure if y'all can still see the photos on eBay but there are definitely some damaged decks in that lot, hard to tell how many.

It will be interesting to keep an eye on his feedback and see what the buyer posts.
