I will not buy it.

It doesn't seem to be a one way back but hey, subtlety is key right? And I might have to agree. The aces aren't necessarily bad. But having only two customized is a downer because the design does look so simple. Seeing as the courts and pips won't be customized either, this deck seems to be too simple and not creative enough for my taste. How unfortunate.

Looks like some scruff someone made just so they could make money out of something. Considering buying it for my girlfriend though, just for sentiment's sake.

quick cash in for valentines day
this deck looks terrible
-
I actually like the deck and the design. theory11 saw a major, uprising symbol in pop culture, and, doing what they always do, did something about it. For me, this deck, this entire campaign, stands for more than just it's literal meaning. Although i couldn't find the message Curtis displayed via a quick 5 minute Google search, I know he had a deep message the wanted to tell.
Just in time for Valentine's day, although some may think this deck took was only made in a matter to minutes, I think something stands out about this deck. For some reason, it reaches out to me, and I have this attraction to a deck. I guess there are just butterflies in my stomach. Anyway, I'll tune in on the 28th at theory11 for more insight.
-
One thing I can tell. Many will buy it as a gift or for collection purposes.
I guess I would buy it for my girl.
-
Decks will start at $6.95
Uncut Sheet will be $29.95
-
I too actually like the design of this deck, looks nice and simple compared to eveery other deck T11 has brought out recently. I may possibly buy it
-
I am a bit impartial to the design but I won't buy the deck just because it seems like it was a easy way for T11 to sell another deck without putting much effort into the design process, since it already was partially finished. Also, if I was giving this as a valentines gift, I feel that the phrase "love me" is pretty need and almost begging, unless the person receiving the gift new about the artist already.

I'm pretty sure many people will know who Curtis is, considering his "Love Me" tagline has been endorsed by Nike, Vans, as well as being displayed in bathroom stalls and brick walls in NYC.
-
Getting it for my girl, just in time befor valentine ^^.

I've never heard of him :/ and I'm a 19 year old college student with a closet full of nike apparel, so I wouldn't say it's because I'm out of the loop.
Anyways this deck reminds me of IAOCP. I actually really like the back design but it would have been nice if they customized the rest of the deck. The clean and definite nature of standard pips and court cards doesn't really fit with the hand-drawn, indefinite theme of this deck.
-
I actually really like it, as will my gf too. I think it would be neat to incorporate this deck when doing certain tricks for couples as it would have a little bit more meaning and a moment they would remember forever. I'm starting to brainstorm as we speak. I could definitely see me getting a brick of these.
-
I mean I can definitely see the applications with it that will be appreciated by our love interests. But the tough thing for me to get over is that if this is supposed to be a "love themed" deck, more than just the two aces, jokers, and backs need to be customized. Like even finishing off the other two aces would be close to good enough for me.
The standard customization of aces, jokers, and backs are good for flourishing and magic because the focus is on what is being done with the cards and the customization makes it more memorable or flashier. If the focus is on the design of the cards then more should be customized. As Angel_magic said, the deck isn't quite cohesive if parts are standard and parts are going for the hand drawn look.
Oh well! Deck is going to be released whether I like it or not haha I'll just have to pass on it.
-
Guys, this deck is perfect for romantic magic routines. I'm guessing you collectively aren't into that sort of thing. I could imagine Zenneth Kok having a blast with this deck, ESPECIALLY because it's not over the top on the customization. It's not great for poker, but this isn't a deck meant for poker, is it?
A deck doesn't require a full-custom makeover to be a good deck. It's artistic, tasteful and very appropriate for the upcoming holiday. It's on my buy list.
And yes, the back does appear to be a two-way design.
-
Me personally, I don't view this deck as a collectors deck. I see this deck as a gift to give to a loved one, or a tool for magicians to use for those special moments. This deck is coming out for Valentines Day which millions of people and couples celebrate together. I think there is more meaning behind this deck than what people are realizing. Look at Charity Water, Animal Kingdom, Wounded Warrior Deck, Breast Cancer Deck, etc... They are so much more than just a deck of cards. Just consider the deck with an open mind is all.
-
I've never heard of him :/ and I'm a 19 year old college student with a closet full of nike apparel, so I wouldn't say it's because I'm out of the loop.
Well, you've might have seen his design at a store, but never noticed it. Nike's just one of his endorsers. I believe he's best known for his collaboration with either Vans or Smashbox.
P.S. - If you have 15 minutes to spare (I know you will Don!), I highly encourage you to watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=plRjge_3tME). Curtis explains his campaign, inspirations, and ambitions.

Just bought a brick of these as well as Lalita's DIY Rose From Cards download from the wire. I'm gonna make a dozen roses out of the Love Me deck and put them in a vase and make it look really nice for my girlfriend for Valentines Day. By giving a gift that is homemade vs store boughten I think shows a little more thoughtfulness and effort. Plus I'm putting a little bit of myself in this gift when I give it to her. Cant wait for these decks to arrive so I can start making this for her!
-
I will say there are some elements in this deck that I like. The pure text back is pretty cool in the sense that it looks haphazard and maintains a two way back at the same time. The borderless design helps too. But the design of the ace of spades/hearts is terrible. I don't like that sketched out heart design. It looks tacky. Not to mention I have an inherent problem with Valentine's day. I see no need to but stuff from the companies that created a day just so we have to buy stuff from them. I think that the commercial "love" theme of the deck and the tackiness of both the hearts and lettering completely overshadow and crush any good elements that once were.
EDIT: Just noticed. "Ace of love"? Really?

Why hello Adam Knoblich :P.
Personally i think the idea is cool idea but its missing the wow factor for me.
-
Why hello there john. I take it you seen my review at theory 11? Maybe I should make a dozen roses for you too and then you can tell me if that wows you. lol

I didn't mean your idea! I absolutely love it, infact if my girlfriend didn't despise all things playing cards i would do it myself. I mean't the deck was lacking :P
I still want roses though...

Ahhh, I gotcha man. Thanks I appreciate it. I'm sure my gf will be pretty amazed with it. I can understand your opinion as well as many other about the deck lacking in certain areas. Yeah, I agree, it would have been nice to see maybe a little bit more added to it. But in the end, I enjoy the box, the seal, the back design and how it will work well for Valentines day. That's kind of a bummer your gf despises all things playing cards. Maybe you should make roses out of a different deck and give them to her for Valentines day. Then maybe she will like playing cards just a teeny tiny bit! ;)

Seriously though... since you offered i want roses from you...

I gave my then-fiancee some roses made for me by Lalita - Bike Riders and S&M v6. She's not a huge fan of my collection, but she loved the roses.

EDIT: Just noticed. "Ace of love"? Really?
I can dig the whole "commercialism" thing you're talking about, but women for the most part consider it a big deal to be treated nicely on V-Day. In Japan, they make such a big deal about it that there's a reciprocal holiday on March 14 called "White Day", where girls do nice things for the guys who were their Valentine's Day sweethearts. Maybe it was started by some companies dozens of years ago, but it makes it no less real today. It's also how Christmas came to be such a big deal with gift giving. Memorial Day used to be a time for remembering the men and women of the military who died while in service, and Labor Day was a celebration of union labor solidarity - now, they're more remembered for being the unofficial start and end of summer, celebrated with giant barbecues and lots of beer. That didn't happen by accident - companies saw a need and fulfilled it, and people decided they liked it and wanted more.
As far as the art behind the deck, well - one man's art is another man's junk, right?
-
Its a cure deck but anyone could have made this design. I think its a bit lazy in terms of the drawing and such. But I like what Knobz said. Making roses out of these decks would look cute. :) hahahaha
I wouldn't want them at the moment. :P
-
Knobz1 - what an amazing idea :) I want this deck, there's something about it that I can't quite put my finger on ...
-
And there is the teal font. Hahha XD
This deck is what it is. A simple design, made specially for valentines sales rack. :)
-
Thanks guys and girl (Lara) for the kind words. I will be sure to post pics of the final bouquet before I give it to my gf for Valentines day.
-
legend .. can I steal your idea and do it for my girlfriend? ... :)

-
sweeeet, thanks dude :) ima mix it up a little though .. my orignial plan was to do a bouquet of cookies, but ima do half n half now .. I kinda wish I had the love me deck to do it .. might just write 'love me' on some blank cards i have and do it with that :)
-
bought this deck (and a few others) but still waiting on shipping. I wasn't going to, but then had a valentines idea. I'm giving them to my special someone at dinner along with a note that says "thank you for sharing my world."
And I've gotten her a few designer decks in the past - it keeps them in MY collection. but she gets to play with them.
-
I haven't seen any pictures of the court cards up, but are those just standard court cards?

I didn't buy this deck but according to BM Poker World's website, the courts have a "pronounced red coloring on them" that would make them slightly customized but still the standard design and faces.
-
Does anyone have any updates of this deck being released in the UK?

But if I wait til it's out in th UK I won't have to pay that shipping - I'm not in a rush to get it, just want to add to my collection .. If it doesn't come out in UK, then I can purchase internationally

Wow, those jokers suck. no pic, just joker.
-
Wow, those jokers suck. no pic, just joker.
Pardon me, but it's more than just "j-o-k-e-r" there - it's done artistically. The deck's design is extremely simple and a simple joker fits with that aesthetic.
-
really? I would have thought of doing a rose - symbol of love or something more then just artistic writing.
-
really? I would have thought of doing a rose - symbol of love or something more then just artistic writing.
They changed the Ace of Hearts to the Ace of Love which I thought was neat but a lot of people are bitchin about how retarded it is. This question isn't directed at you John B. but has anyone ever heard of someone say or text "I love you" or "I heart you?" Love and Heart mean the same thing . So instead of saying Ace of Hearts they changed it to Ace of Love which I thought was really neat. But I guess I'm the only one to see that. I like everything about this deck and couldn't be happier with my purchase.
-

The whole project is that same artistic writing. A rose would be totally out of place. It's like bringing a a dinky economy car to a monster truck rally. "One of these things is not like the others..."

While I haven't picked mine up yet, I'm in agreement about the design. And yes, I write "I <3 u" in texts far more often than "I love you."
-
i reckon it would've been cool if all the pips on all th cards were in his design, would've made th deck all that better .. I agree I say "I heart you" aloud much more than I say in a txt :)

Ah, but this is Theory11 we're talking about here. They're released exactly one full-custom deck of their own design, the Sentinels. The first printing sucked because the finish crapped out, but the second printing performs admirably. But back to the point - aside from touching up the colors, they don't generally alter the courts or the spot cards all that much.
Many magicians prefer this because the audience will more readily identify with the deck if it's something they recognize and use at home. That's not to say that custom decks don't have a place in magic, but when you're aiming for the broadest possible audience, a magician's better off using what the most people will be familiar with. It's why Zenneth Kok's decks never had custom faces, only recolorings at most - and he takes it a step further by using classic backs (tweaked to his liking, of course) instead of creating one of his own. I understand completely.
One of my favorite performing decks is the Bicycle Guardians - either of the two current versions will do, since all three are essentially the same. (T11 made two versions and they let USPC use the design for a third version sold under their own name - the current T11 version has a matte-finish box while the USPC version has an "international" box, written in French and English.) They have faces that are easy to identify with just a tweak to the coloring to make the reds deeper, and the back design, while all custom and cool, is itself reminiscent of the classic Bicycle Rider Back.
Do I know how to write a tangent or what! :))
-

I agree. If they put a rose on the Joker, the deck would start to look like some of Merz's Trace decks, with no design theme other than a simple consistent back design.
Here ya go guys
Thank You. Just one more question: Are the court cards laced with metallic colors, or just simple ones.
-
Just ordered. Mother and girlfriend will certainly be impressed ;)

I did. It turned out really nice. I don't consider myself and arts and crafts type of guy but I was able to pull it off. I wanted to post pics yesterday but I have been so swamped with work and school this week. I will definitely post pics tonight though.
p.s. Girlfriend loved them and thought it was really neat to hand make this whole thing. 1 point for this guy!
-
Ah that's cool :) can't wait :)
ps congrats dude :)

No metallic ink anywhere. Just foil on the box.
-
Here are my supplies I bought.
-
The 2 last pics.

Wow - that looks amazing dude :) how long did it take you?

Wow - that looks amazing dude :) how long did it take you?
Thanks man. It took at least 3 to 4 hours if not longer. Time consuming but totally worth it. By the way, if you look close at the vase it says "Faith." I couldn't find one that said "Love" but I liked that vase so I went ahead and bought it anyway.
-
Great job Knobz! I'm loving the Valentine's bouquet.

"Faith" and "Love" - good combination! She must have really loved it; you did a great job on it.
But why an entire brick? Are you planning to do this for the next 11 years as well? :))
