Of course, if you wanted to buy a brick of these, well you can't.  The variety box is "sold out" and therefore you can't check out with 12 or more decks in your cart.

You are mistaken, a variety box does not allow you to not purchase 12 or more.

As for this, I think it is fucking brilliant, kinda like a lucky dip prize!  :D

No, I mean the variety box you get "free" with 12 or more decks (it's just the empty box).

How so??   I just added 12 of these mystery decks to my cart and it wont let me check out because if you buy 12 decks or more you get a Free Variety Box.   Well, it just so happens the variety box is out of stock so you cant check out.   You have to buy 11 decks or less.

May I ask if you check out as member please? I noticed only the membership discount is calculated to the 12 decks, is this normal please?

Thanks!

I'm not a member so I can't check out that way.  The 15% discount you are seeing for 12 decks is the normal 15% you get for buyin a brick.  Of course, you can't actually BUY a brick right now ;)

Has it occurred to you guys to ASK someone over at D&D about this - since it's probably just some glitch in the software?

Well..........I just bought 11 mystery decks as well.   I been saving up all my buck points to put towards the S&M V7's but was truly disappointed like many of you guys.   And I dont really purchase very much from Dan and Dave besides some playing cards and a magic download here and there.   So I decided to use all my buck points and purchase 11 mystery decks.   Soooo 11 mystery decks + 30 some buck points + holiday free shipping and only cost me just under $30.   I'm a happy camper  :)

I'm just curious as to what some of you will end up getting.  Remember, they used to sell Studs, and they still sell Bikes, Bees, Tally Ho and even Aviators!

If that happened..............I would never purchase a D&D product again.  Just like I haven't purchased anything from Jay Sankey after that Big Ass Box Of Magic nightmare.   Plus Jay Sankeys customer service is a joke.

"Over 100 unique decks."

Sounds to me like 90 pieces of garbage, and 9 pieces of decent, and 1 Jerry's Nugget.

Im not buying anything from D&D until the only thing i have buyed from them gets delivered at my doorstep.

My package has been stuck at San Francisco for 3 weeks and THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE ON THE PLANET wont call the USPS office because they are "busy".

Wow!

So no "mistery decks".

It also sounds like a straight rip-off, they sell so many "so-so" decks that getting a good deck seems almost impossible.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a rip off, but I can't help but think that most people are going to end up massively overpaying for a bunch of decks, and end up with 1 semi-rare deck not worth the cost. Of course they put in the picture a JN, a game of death deck, a red jaqk, etc etc, but I doubt even getting a brick would give you a decent chance at getting a rare deck, especially at only 6 bucks per deck when the DOTM club is closer to 10 bucks per deck.

"fools gold", maybe?

To be fair to them, calling USPS doesn't do anything. They may as well buy 500lb of tomatoes and throw them at kids on the sidewalk.

It's like one of those things that sound too good to be true. I mean, out of the "100 unique deck" how many of those are actually have a high value. Sure, D&D's product page pictures rare and valuable deck, but the DOTM page does that also, and we all know what that has become. Still am curious as to what you guys will get. It's like D&D luxury take of HOPC brick.

Well, despite my earlier statement, I doubt they'll be handing out any genuine-article clunkers not worth the cost of the purchase.  It will more likely be that the "not-so-valuable" decks will be ordinary stuff from their line of D&D and T11 decks.

I think that's the way D&D would go. It's a lucky dip, you don't know what you are going to get. Since its from the private reserves, I'm hoping for some older decks, such as arrcos, aladdins and wynns.

"Over 100 unique decks" simply indicates the variety, not the quantity.

I think there's a glitch on their website because they're offering these at $5.95 each; a semi-reasonable price... Someone should let them know so they can fix it, we don't want them handing out 500 Kentucky tally hos for that cheap, they might only make a little bit of profit :/

Yeah, that's the price.  And while I did joke about this earlier, it's not likely they'll be swapping in decks worth less than the advertised price.  Maybe Ohio Tally Ho, or Gold Edition, or Maeda Gold Edition...  It's not from the store merchandise - they said it's from their personal stash.

I got a brick. Here's what I got:

2 Full Tilt Poker
1 Red Stinger
1 Titanium Red Bicycle
1 White Arrco
1 Bicycle 125 Anniversary
2 Fantastique
1 Blue Vintage Design Safety Back
1 Red Vintage Design Cupid Back
1 Red Vintage Design New Fan Back
1 Ask Alexander

I already have White Arrcos, an Ask Alexander, and way too many Fantastiques, so this wasn't too bad of a haul. Can anyone tell me more about the Full Tilt decks?

I think the arrcos, stingers and vintage backs are very good cards, but I'm not sure your brick was worth the money.

The total cost was ~$57 after discounts, buck points and free shipping, so besides getting more Fantastiques I'm not too bummed about what I got.

They're out-of-print promo decks for an out-of-business poker website.  Not USPC, far as I know.

That list is making me nervous - it doesn't look like it was worth the money spent, or if so, only marginally.

I used to buy that kind of "mystery" playing cards.

Magic the gathering (and plenty of that kind of games), abuse that tactic.

They sell sealed packets of the playing cards and promise you that inside of one of them its a super rare card.

In reality, you never get the amount of money you spend.

I wasted like 300 dollars on one occasion, hoping to get some ultra rare cards.

I got some, but they weren't really that useful in the game so i ended up with some "bad" cards and they didn't really sell well at the end.

So i learned a lesson.

Don i hope you get at least a really rare deck, if you bought a brick chances are you will get something out of it.

Actually, there's only one thing that I'm assured of getting for purchasing a brick of Mystery Decks - 12 packs of cards, plus some brown paper and string for recycling!  I'm hoping for something solid, but I'd settle for decks at least worth what I paid for them.  125th Anniversary and Vintage reprints aren't exactly high value targets...

I understand how you feel, man I'd be slightly worried also. The vintage reprints are pretty good cards apparently, I know Henrik Forberg, Dan and Dave and Tobias Levin use them.

That's still going on in a game called Pokemon (TCG). You have $5 for a Booster Pack and you get a some cards, not knowing what's inside. I'm guessing the adrenaline of mystery is what's catching everyone.

There's lot of collectible card games (CCGs) that use that model.  Truth is, they do have a fixed distribution of rare, uncommon and common cards within each booster pack.  But there's never a guarantee about how useful in the game or valuable in the aftermarket that rare card happens to be.

Some companies have switched to a "Living Card Game" (LCG) model, where you buy a complete set of cards in an expansion or base set all at once, insuring you have all the cards all at once.  It's not a bad model, really.

And it has NOTHING to do with the Mystery deck!  :))  If you folks would like to continue this discussion, perhaps the Talk Park would be a good place to take it.

I don't want to get they although there is "out of stock" cards
but still can get from ebay or retailer and most of all I already have
I think that were "massive" private preserve... :t11:

if fact I want to buy mystery decks that I would like to get additional V7
but I didn't see any one get v7 :mindf-ck:
I think V7 also hard to get...

and the Jerry's nugget possibility
I think that's too hard to get bcuz no one know the total decks
(maybe more than 5000 or 10000 mystery decks, and only 1 JN or less than 10 rare decks)
or maybe there no JN...bcuz mystery decks didnt  sold out...

hope every one open and get rare decks!

Well, the advertising did picture a S&M v7 deck, and someone here did get a Robert Graham deck, which I'm told is on the rare side.

I'm thinking if I'm lucky, I'll get one "decent" deck, something at least semi-rare with a current "street value" of at least $20.  But judging from what people got so far, that's some very optimistic thinking.  I'm shocked they're giving out Vintage reprints and 125th Anniversaries...

With luck it will be waiting for me at the post office in the morning.

I picked up two bricks, for some reason. I figured it was worth the shot and that the odds figured I'd at least make my money back and a little more- plus, who doesn't like a surprise (or 24)? I'll be sure to post what I get once I receive the decks.

Aren't these suppose to be shipped Jan 2?

Since people are already receiving them and listing what they got, I'd have to say the answer to that one is a big, fat "NO".

And no, my cards weren't yet at the PO, though strangely enough I had an order from Gambling Incorporated (a division of Meir Yedid Magic) waiting for me that I ordered only two or three days ago.  I'm still waiting on stuff from E that I ordered about a week ago.  And I ordered from D&D before I ordered from E.  It would seem that around the holidays, "Priority Mail, 2-3 day delivery" is more like "you'll get it eventually, shut yer yap already".

Haha, my thoughts exactly Don. I haven't received my package either and I placed it the day these were released. I'm a pretty patient guy, but it's different when you don't know what you bought.

The Mystery Decks are now sold out at D&D's website. Still waiting on mine to arrive.

are D&D usually slow on shipping out orders? I actually haven't ever ordered from them directly so I don't have any experience with their promptness on orders. I'm actually considering getting the S&M v7s eventually...yeah it's undoubtedly overpriced, but I do like the design and would probably never open up an actual set of v3s even if I ever got them.

Either way, it seems like it's taking quite a bit longer than other sites for people to get their decks.

I've had good and bad experiences with their shipping, usually bad. My orders almost always say "pending" for at least a week, if not more, often outside of special releases/holidays. On one occasion, I had to email them after three weeks to ask why my order hadn't been shipped yet, at which point it was sent out. I've also had packages arrive from them without ever being marked as shipped or being emailed a shipping confirmation or tracking number. I can't seem to get a solid grasp on how they operate with shipping. As Don said, I think they just figure people will get their stuff when they get it...however long that may take.

I was referencing the US Postal Service when I said that, not Dan and Dave!  My order is paid for and has been "processing" for twelve days now.  Take away weekends and Christmas/New Year's Days, and that's still six business days.  I can view my streaming videos, but my decks haven't even left the warehouse yet.  Even factoring in the holidays, there's no reason for an order to be sitting like this for so long, especially when you remember that there's no stock issues here - these are decks from their personal stash, not products they're still waiting on from USPC or Joe Porper or whomever.

EDIT: I wrote to Syd to inquire.  I'll let you know what he says.

My order has been sitting for a while as well. I'd be very curious to know how many people actually work at a "big name" like Dan & Dave. They have tens of thousands of fans, and dozens of products, but my gut tells me that in actuality there aren't all that many people working in their warehouses.

Even though I was 1200 miles away from home for the entire week of Christmas and New Years I got all of MY orders out the door yesterday and today. Hee hee. :)

Well, Ellusionist, probably the greatest magic website, only runs on 12 people.
When it comes to D&D I'd probably say they have around ten people, give or take two. Dan and Dave are doing there thing with Samuel Fulton as their "creative designer", and I've only known Syd to work the shipping/processing center.

Here's what Syd said to me:

Unfortunately, this past Christmas we were definitely not prepared to handle the amount of orders that came through. With that said, we worked our hardest through the holiday season to get everything we could processed and shipped. With large releases and holiday seasons, we state in our terms that it can take up to "7 business days" to get orders shipped out. We try our best to stay within that 7 business day range, but we are a small business and in some cases, we could not ship out within those stated time frames.

As for the Mystery Decks, we did mention on the product page that they would not ship until "January 2nd". We had a slight delay with the packaging of the decks (each has to be individually wrapped) which will keep them from getting shipped out until next week.

We do appreciate everyones business and concerns and are trying our hardest to get things done in a timely manner. If anyone is concerned about a pending order and are posting at the Discourse, they are welcome to email me here directly.

So there you have it.  I'm thinking that by the middle of next week most if not all Mystery Deck orders will have shipped.

I talked to Syd about this on a previous occasion (although I don't quite remember when it was), and if I recall correctly, he told me that at that time he was pretty much completely responsible for packaging and shipping all orders out, with some help from the Bucks when they are able. With that in mind, considering the nature of the mystery deck, since every single deck must be hand wrapped (and they look quite nicely wrapped in the pictures) I can imagine why it's taking so long for a virtually one man team to get all the orders out.

I'd wager that they hired holiday help for all the new releases.  They'd have been insane not to.  But even with that, they were not expecting the volume they got.

I did get my order yesterday. I'd guess that the Mystery deck wrapping was one of those things that you think up and it sounds awesome. Then you sit down and realize you have to do this time-consuming process on EVERY deck and it suddenly becomes not so fun. I've made that mistake a couple times. :)

On the decks, I ordered a v7 set (which actually is very nicely done) and just one mystery deck. I got an Aladdin 1001. Boo.

I felt the same way about you because other than a few S&Ms and the decks that I received, I didn't have that many "Dan and Dave decks." I hoped to have received some older, less common decks or something cool from their collection. But I didn't think I'd get decks they still sell. Multiples? Yes. Something not rare but uncommon? Maybe. But not one of the decks they still offer....

Oh well! Like I said, at least I get some new decks to toss around and trash!

I expected they'd change the expected ship date, because they expected they'd have a lot less people expecting to get this deck in a timely manner...  I'm expecting them to ship while I'm still young...ish...  I think I'm expecting to get disappointed, because I, like many here, was expecting a much better deck selection, rather than them expecting we'd take anything that they made and call it a day...

D&D take a while, since 100% of their shipping is done by Syd. Their big new releases generally take around 1-2 weeks of just handling time.

He said they generally try to get stuff out within seven business days.  Initially, this was to ship on the 2nd.  This meant that orders would have been totally filled by the 11th.  But now they changed the website - after the decks were already sold out - and change the ship date to the 5th.  Odd, since it's not even a "business day", unless they count Saturdays now (in which case shipping should have been completed by tomorrow, the 10th.  Seven business days after the 5th (counting Saturdays, since they work on Saturdays) means the decks should be fully shipped by the 14th.

Bloody nuisance.

I am with everyone, between the delay and selection I am disappointed. I don't want to be overcharged for the bike anniversary decks because they want to unload them in disguise as a mystery.

Meh, can't complain to much though. We still have a chance to get some great decks.

I want to send Syd a thank you note, makes me feel bad he has to handle all that shipping.

So, would you call this motley collection worth $6/deck average?

Ohio Arrcos, red and blue
Aristocrat 727 Banknote reprints, red and blue
Vintage Plaids, two red and one blue
Pro Bike Skull/Bones, red
Massa (I paid TWO BUCKS for my previous Massas - I cry foul!)
Fulton's Clip Joint
Ace Fulton's Casino, brown
Smoke from v7 boxed set

I'd considered getting that v7 boxed set, if only briefly, after reading a review of them.  I was so disappointed after seeing my Smoke deck - it saved me from spending around $90-95 with shipping!  And I didn't suddenly fall in love with Ace Fulton's after opening the brown - they seemed OK, but too quirky for no really good reason.  I liked the FCJs when they first came out, but they don't hold up well.  But the first eight decks listed I actually like.  I enjoyed Vintage Plaids when they came out, love the Aristos and Arrcos and love anything Pro Bike.

While some individual decks weren't worth it to me, on average I think I did OK.  No Jerry's Nugget, but I also didn't get stuck with a string of clunkers.

I received:
- Fulton's Clip Joint
- Vintage Plaid (Blue)
- Acorn Back (Black & Silver) Don't know if it is Ivory and Cambric

Could be worse, I did not have a vintage plaid or the black and silver Acorn Back, did not want to see a Clip Joint, but alas....Anyway, it turned out alright I guess, lol.

Randomly found this on ebay. For some reason, this makes me feel sick.

Don't know if it is Ivory and Cambric

I'd say it is most likely cambric(same case on my end).Look at the top of the box. Part of the word will be covered by the seal but you'll see "BRIC" , and hence my conclusion.

Apparently, I ended up receiving Air Cushion professional Skull cards (as well as Ivory). Didn't know those existed, at least not on D&D's website.

At least each deck is worth at least what you paid for it.

Ivory is smooth to the touch, Cambric is the Bee version of Air Cushion, with embossed surfaces.

Re the eBay sale - it's a caveat emptor world out there on eBay.  Only a sucker would bother.  I'd be willing to wager that the deck's wrapper was even opened and resealed - after seeing mine I can see it would be easy enough to do.  Most of mine didn't even come with string around them and the few that did only wrapped around horizontally.  They were mad-busy trying to get these out the door...

Re the Skull & Bones - it was always in Ivory and Air Cushion, just like the original Professional Bicycles.  They were made for CARC and are listed with both finishes on their site.  I find their Ivory decks pretty interesting - insanely stiff due to the heavy stock and nigh-indestructible.

I've surprised even someone paid $15 for a mystery deck that might just be a Massa. Only a handful of decks received look to be over $15, if any. Oh man. SMH.

No one paid anything for it, yet.  It's still up for bids.  And that bid was probably made from a shill account.

Ask Alex was a CARC deck, though for many the decidedly one-way back was a turn-off.
The red/blue Vintage Plaids are all right.
The Arrcos are from the Ohio factory - worth it.

But the rest...

I'm ok with the Clip Joints and Chinatowns, and the v6 reprints are very nice. I'm satisfied with my lot.

Well, it was a gamble. I barely made my money back. I spent about $100 on the 2 bricks after my member discount. I'd call it a success overall.

I'm thinking that each of the really cool rare decks they showed on the page exist in quantities of exactly one each.  You'd have a better chance of winning at least the minimum prize in a typical state lottery.

I agree. I noticed a lot of the vintage plaids turning up, but to be honest there pretty nice decks. I'm not sure how they hold up over time yet but i like the design much better than the original bee backs. based on a purely monetary value i made my money back and then some so not too much to complain about.

So no JN decks confirmed??? This seems more like a "legal" scam lol  8)

Im going to try that in my store and see if people actually like the idea of buying a "mystery deck"

They never stated how many Mystery Decks were offered and how many were Jerry's Nuggets or any of the other rare models - see photo below.  It's sort of like a sweepstakes, but because every entry is merchandise worth either a bit below or somewhat over the retail price, the normal sweepstakes laws don't seem to be applicable here, with statements like odds of winning, how many of each rare deck offered, how many decks in total...  It looks like of the "100 unique designs", most people just got something D&D offered in their shop at some point or another, bringing the selection most readily available down to perhaps twenty decks or less.

maybe more will pop up on ebay... ;) although from the looks of it you may as well just go to their store and pick up some fultons and vintage plaids. I will say though I got some pretty cool decks out of the deal and given the chance i may have bought a few more.
