Jerry's Nuggets coming back with a really really good price.
Date: October 2012 TBA
Deck Page: http://www.leeasher.com/store/playing_cards/jerrys_nugget_cards.html
-
I haven't heard a word about it yet from Lee, either by his newsletter or by email/phone. The pricing list you linked to was for last year's canceled sale - the prices may be different this time around.
I have to contact him in the next few days anyway; I'll ask for more details.
-
I wonder how he will handle the traffic influx this time around? The card community has grown exponentially since I remember getting up early for his sale a few years ago. It's only grown more since 2011.

If I find out from him, I'll be sure to let you and the gang know.

the email newsletter was sent out a few week ago. I remember getting it. It might still be in my inbox.
-
I've gotta go dig for that email. And I have to get in touch with him on an unrelated matter, so I'll ask him.
-
Okay sounds good, and yes the pricing may be different, but i'm pretty sure there is still a sale because it says October 2012 TBA. We will just have to wait and see
-
If I acn get one for $200 or less, I'm going for it!

I'm not trying to sound like a debby-downer or an elitist, but I don't care about JN's. Who cares if they handle well, nobody opens the cello. The cards don't even look good. I don't need them.
End of mini-rant, go about your business.

Rich people open the cello all the time. :P
I opened one of mine, they are everything they're cracked up to be in terms of durability. In my opinion, the cards look fantastic, and that is specifically due to the type of ink used on the backs. It's not just your typical, dead, desaturated USPCC blue. It doesn't look like printer ink. It's very deep, very awesome.
The real draw is history, especially for me. It's insane thinking that many years ago, the hotel sold them at 99 cents each, and had tens of thousands of them. Now each deck sells for $300-400 and it has consistently stayed at that price, unlike a lot of other "rare" decks that fluctuate like crazy.
I think that if you're going to be dropping big money cards, you may as well get something vintage, something unique - and there are plenty of people that drop big money. For my personal taste, I'd take two Jerry's over 36x of some new release.

At current market rates, you have to get more like 60x-120x of some other $5-$10 release to equal two Jerry's! :))

Over some releases I agree.
If I'm able to get some, I will most definitely open one to use. Yes they are an extremely rare deck, and I will be locking them away but where is the satisfaction if you can't use them!
It's a 42 year old deck of cards!! I'd definitely want to see what they're like...
-
but where is the satisfaction if you can't use them!
Well, for some people, like me for instance, there's some satisfaction in merely owning the deck. Sort of like a trophy.

Very true, I agree but don't you get that feeing that you wanna play with them?? :)

I feel to truly own the deck, you have to use it.

Couldn't agree more, Russel. I heard they don't handle better than wynns, and although I would rather get these than some other substantially rare deck like the BG v1, I am not planning on getting these any time soon (unless I suddenly become a millionaire for no reason). I'm pretty sure that is they weren't so rare and demanded, people wouldn't be such fans of their looks of handling.
PS: Here's what Lee Asher said:
"If you're fast enough, you'll be able to purchase a deck of Jerry's Nugget Playing cards for FAR LESS than 2011's fair market value."
-
i received my deck the other day i love them i cant beleave the handling
the cards are like i just opened them each time its crazy to think there so old i look at them the blue is very vivid and deep and there smooth and strong i love the history also i feel very lucky to own them my first vintage deck

If you buy a deck not to eventually open it, but to simply stare at it on your shelf in a pristine box still wrapped in cellophane, and you go through the trouble of keeping it perfect, undamaged, etc., it's really more like the deck owns you rather than the other way around...

Other than Mr. Asher here, are there any solid places to get a genuine Jerry's? I know they pop up on eBay but's it's hard to be sure. Are there any sellers or traders out there that are verified legit?
It would be cool to own one of these, but I'd want to be sure it was 100% certain to be real.

Well, Lee is a famous magician, he probably has his ways ;) Anyone know how much these will cost? Is there some price scheme of sorts for the JNs? All I know is that they're gonna run me over a $100 usd, better start saving....
-
The prices are unsure of at the moment, but expect to pay a few hundred. I remember, last year, he steadily increased the priced with each deck bought. For example, for like the first 20, they may go for X. Then, the next 30, maybe, will go for X+25. Thus, each deck's price steadily increases until sold out. It's best to save up now, but your chances may be slim on getting one when it's in extremely high demand.
-
Yes wanted a jn :) just hope it dosent go ove 250 :( gotta wait and see
-
In 2011 the prices were from $100-350 but there were just a couple at the low price. Probably similar this year, maybe a bit more costly in general. You'll need to act super fast I'd imagine.

It would be cool to own one of these, but I'd want to be sure it was 100% certain to be real.
The CARC decks are legit - but supplies are limited.
The HOPC prize decks are legit - but you have to win their monthly contest and I think they only have enough through the end of the year.
Other than that - it's a crap shoot. I'm told the forgeries have become more sophisticated. Ask for a certificate of authenticity, but only take as legit ones from "known quantities", like Lee Asher.

You heard it here, hopefully first... :))
First three decks go for only $99!
He's using a new "auto-reload" feature to stop people from constantly sending reload hits to his server. A button will appear for you to buy, you click and a deck is actually "reserved" for you to buy - you're given the deck's price (which is locked in for your sale) and have five minutes to complete your purchase. If you don't, the deck goes back into the pool of available decks and someone else can buy it. Once all the decks have been paid for, the sale gets declared "officially over" and that's it until next time. So if you don't get a chance to buy right away, you need to stick around - within five minutes you might just get another chance.
He's accepting PayPal only, but points out that PayPal accepts credit/debit cards and doesn't require you to make an account to make a payment if you have a card.
If this sale is a success, perhaps it will be a model for other sellers to use when releasing a rare deck in short supply. Personally, I'm hoping it is.
-
hmm ... if you notice .. there is rung 1 - 24 , will all 24 rung be available at once or rung 1 then after the rung got reserved then rung 2 will be open ..btw will these come with the cert or only the deck ?
-

I'm guessing you haven't read the page carefully. I'll explain.
First, any J-Nugg sold by Lee has his certificate of authenticity. He gets his decks from a reliable source and they are the genuine article.
Now, the rungs - when you climb a ladder, do you jump to the last rung, or do you start with the first and work your way up?
The rungs are "sold" in order - made available to whoever clicks through first that they want a J-Nugg. The first rung has three decks, so the first three who click through will get them. The second rung has three, so the next three people who click through will get them, and so on. It even states on the first run "the first 3" while all subsequent rungs state "the next X", with X being the number of decks available on that rung.
When you click in, your price is locked in - as is your deck, for the next five minutes. In the purchase window, no one gets a chance to buy the deck out from under you just because you didn't get your PayPal purchase logged in more quickly. But when the five minutes are up, if you didn't complete the transaction, it's too late - your deck goes back into the available pool and anyone else left logged into the site can click to get it.
This means that if the sale doesn't become labeled "officially over" on the web page in the first five minutes, there will be at least one if not several more decks available! This is why Lee Asher is asking people to remain logged into the site. YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO KEEP RELOADING THE WEB PAGE! The page will have some kind of web app that will reload the availability status for you in real time - you can sit there comfortably "parked" and just wait for it all to happen. When the little red "Get a JNug now!" button appears, be ready to click! But if you didn't get it on the first shot, DON'T RELOAD YOUR PAGE. The first 144 clicks get a crack at the decks, but that doesn't mean they'll all complete their transactions within the five-minute window! So you sit there and wait, comfortably "parked" still, let the page load automatically, and after five minutes, if "officially closed" didn't appear on the page, some of those 144 decks will become available again. The cycle continues until all 144 are sold. I'm doubtful that it will go past the five-minute mark and near-certain it won't reach ten.
There's also the off-chance that someone will quit their sale, lose their Internet connection, give up trying to pay because they simply don't have the cash, etc. - so more decks may show up before the five-minute mark. Just wait and be ready. But don't reload. :))

It's probably more like $100K, but yes, decent money in a lump. But if that was a person's sole source of income over the course of four years, I make more than that already and I'm far from wealthy.

This sounds very interesting sell.
Really? Does it? Maybe that's why we posted it here, don't you think?
Noodle, you're new as a poster here so please allow me to give you a little friendly advice. Most of the time, people who post here like to write something that's more substantial than a "me, too" post or a "that's interesting" post. If it's interesting to you, tell us why you find it interesting.
We all post spam and messages that contribute nothing to the conversation now and again, but we also try to keep it to a minimum.

Have it cross anyone mind ?? Why does he have so many decks ?
-
I would love to get one but I forgot all about this sale and I have no money right now :(
Next year!
-
Have it cross anyone mind ?? Why does he have so many decks ?
I know why - he has a connection to someone who owns a good deal of them. Like a LARGE amount. It's not his own personal stash, though he does own quite a few. Imagine my reaction when I saw his desk with JN cards that had been cut, torn, destroyed, etc. for some ideas he was working on!
I would love to get one but I forgot all about this sale and I have no money right now :(
Next year!
Now what do we say around here about "I'd love to get this but can't afford it" posts...? :))
I'm not even trying to get a pack. Maybe one day, but not today. If anyone's looking to buy me a Christmas gift, this deck is on my list and I've been oh-so-very nice this year... It's pretty expensive, not the most beautiful deck out there by far and I think I'll find a way to live with myself even if I never acquire a pack of these.
What would be even better would be if USPC could finally either reproduce or improve upon the manufacturing process that made this deck so they could make it again. Imagine making a new custom deck that has the feel and durability of a JN?

As an owner of an opened JN I can say that the closest thing you'll get to the feel and duarability would be the UV500 stock, however even that stock is still very different to how the JN feels. The JN is far thinner too and most stocks nowadays seem very loose.
As for the sale I'm sticking around and seeing if I can hit that magical button, but anything over $190 and I'm not buying :)
-
Well that was a waste of excitement, I clicked the button within a second of it appearing and what was my price...? $260
Yippee!
It is a interesting system though, I've seen it get as low as $210 but that's still too much $$ for meese.
P.S. The quantity of Seasons reprints I planned to purchase has just risen by a considerable margin. ???
-
I clicked the button and got a price of $230! Should I buy it?
-
I got the $200 tier.
Not worth it.
See you next year Mr. Asher!
-
Lowest I got was $210 and didn't buy it. Even if I got the $99 tier I probably wouldn't buy it unless I was guaranteed a blue deck since I already have a red one.
-
Holy poop that went fast. The moment the button was there to buy at $99 it climbed to $250 then slowly to $280, then slowly fell down again to $200 so I got mine.
-
I was there the moment the sale started and I did not even see the $99 tier.
-
i had 230$ but didnt buy it so many things to get like the aurum, seasons etc maybe next year :)
-
I am not sure but maybe the low price tiers did not really exist in the first place. lol
-
Now ALL Already Sold out ,
-
Well, just to recap the experience, here it goes.
I came to the website to out of curiosity to see how much my deck would've cost. I had no real intention of purchasing the deck. within the SECONDS of the link popping up, the numbers skyrocketed faster than I can register. When I clicked the "Buy it Now" button, I was stuck with a price of $320. Now, here's what I found interesting. After a minute or two, the price slowly decreased, probably because many people were uninterested.
That's how he gets you. He makes it seem like he's he only way to get one, that people are so quick to buy the deck, they often get it for much higher than if they were to wait. Within the next five minutes after the release, the price lowered, and eventually stabilized between $220 and $240. Many people, I can tell, were hesitant to purchase the deck if a lower price was to show up. Currently, the price rose after people found out that $230 was probably going to be the average price. Now, the price is at a high of $335, and, according to the tier chart, there are only about half a brick left. Furthermore, the lowest price I've visually seen the deck go for is $200.
All in all, I really enjoyed this release probably more than any other. The reasoning behind that is that it was just enjoyable to see the prices to bounce from $200 to $300 and fall back down again. I'm unsure how Lee makes this purchasing system possible, but he should share the secret with all other magic companies. This would make us and them much happier.
P.S. - As I am typing this post, the deck is now sold out. Congratulations to those who were able to score a deck!
P.P.S. - How much do JN's go for nowadays? I haven' t seen any on eBay for a while.
I am not sure but maybe the low price tiers did not really exist in the first place. lol
What makes you think that? I'm sure Lee always keeps his word.

Now ALL Already Sold out ,
The sale finished at 9:44pm (I think)
It was a very interesting system, but at the beginning when the price was at $240, after clicking "Add to Cart", the shopping cart page was loading a bit slow... Mine took more than one minute to load.
I did not see the $99 tier. After the count down, the "buy it now" page did not load straight away. From count down page to "buy it now" auto page change, the first price I saw was $230, then it came back down to $220 $210 mark.
Did anyone successfully bought more than ONE deck (at different price)?
May I ask if these are worthwhile getting:

Although I doubt anyone did, I'm pretty sure it would have been entirely possible with the nearly 45-minute window.
May I ask if these are worthwhile getting:
Personally, i would only be collecting them if I were collecting the HUNDREDS of casino decks out there. However, as a standard Bicycle deck collector, I think it would be pretty cool to own a deck of casino cards that are in actually pristine condition.

This sounds very interesting sell.I
Really?
Thanks for your friendly advice Don.Please don;t mind my conversation too short, I start collecting cards for 5 months,I really appreciate I learn a lot card's knowledge from you guys.I have seen some Jerry's Nugget sold on ebay a while ago with 200~300 dollars a deck. The price is really out of my range,I was trying to get a pair from Lee Asher, around 300 dollars ,but I fail the auction because the price always more than 200..... :-[ I didn't get any Jerry Nugget

Lowest I got was $210 and didn't buy it. Even if I got the $99 tier I probably wouldn't buy it unless I was guaranteed a blue deck since I already have a red one.
You'd say no to a free ~$100? Buy it for $99 and put it on ebay $200? Easy as hell.
Also did these come with the pelican case?
Have it cross anyone mind ?? Why does he have so many decks ?
Hype is overpowered man, beats logic every single time

Not everyone buys decks just to mark them up and resell them....

Thanks KPop, I might just get one each.

The early tiers went fast because there were few decks in them. The load took a while because the servers managing the sale suddenly spiked with traffic. The price hovered around the low 200s a while because there were many people hoping for the lowest prices and, seeing the price they were given, decided the simply couldn't afford it and canceled their purchase, freeing up the deck for someone else to buy.
Regarding those other Asher decks, I'd say it depends on how you collect. The first deck is Bee casino stock with a Stinger back. The second deck is the same stock with a standard Diamond Back pattern, something Vegas no longer uses, and it comes in two colors as well. Both are high-grade decks made in the now-defunct Cincinnati plant for casinos that no longer exist, so they'll never be made again.
The third deck is made by Angel Playing Cards out of Japan. Their quality is very good - I own "Club Angel" casino-grade decks and they handle a lot like Bees, though not with as good a finish. A few magicians have performed with them on their videos. They're not as good for flourishing, but they're awesome for magic and just plain playing.
