So? How old are you guys? It's always fun to see where our members lie.
Also you can change your vote so if you're around for your birthday, be sure to update it!
I'm 20.
-
wow most of us are between 18-20
-
I'm the oldest one here? Eep!
-
Wrong...26 checking in
-
That poll looks like it is flipping us the bird as of now. o_o
-
I'm only 12 :(
-
Im 14 8)
-
I'm 15!! But most people here are 18-20... Wow..
-
yea my parents told me no adults do this, only kids yet a lot of us are like 18-20 something.
-
Whoooo, I though I'm young but but nooooooo.
Seriously?
I'm 21 this year and I'm already considered old?
LOL
-
yes you are old. you can drink
-
yes you are old. you can drink
People can drink are considered old now?
OMG!
-
Haha, old is such a powerful word.... but its sort of true.. I am turing 20 relatively soon, and that seems like a much older age than 19. Drinking age in BC is 19 anyway so nothing special about being 20, just seems like a way older age.
-
In the united states it 21. i have 3 more years. btw its still giving us the bird. lol
-
lmao, the poll does look like it is flipping us off :D
-
Yeah, only one guy older than 51.
-
Lol it does look like it is :)
-
in germany we can drink beer with 16 and everything else with 18
so do I you count as old because I'm 16?? :D :D
-
no. i have a friend who was 10 and could reach counter and he was able to drink it.
-
14 15 in a couple of months
-
I would say the jump from 19 to 20 is pretty big, no longer a "teen"
-
I would say the jump from 19 to 20 is pretty big, no longer a "teen"
Some guys are saying jumping from 15 to 16 is a changing point
-
Well, you don't really 'jump' from one to the other, do you. You're just one day older, really. The only differences are legal ones and let's face it, anything that was illegal until you turned [blank], most of us did before we turned [blank].
-

not all of us have.
-
I think the real grow up point is not the age, but the things one do.
For me, I can call myself grow up when I was 18, not because of the age, but it's the time I have to study aboard and live alone. It changes me a lot.
-
I've noticed that most of the card related fields are dominated by the younger folks. I guess that when I was kid I had a lot more time to devote to stuff like learning tricks and cardistry (though of course, way back then there was no cardistry as we know it today). Just wish I'd followed up on my interest then.
When you are married, have two kids, full time job and freelance on the side it gets a lot harder to sit there for hours figuring out how to do a Sybil. :)

True, but there are always down times in life, even if you go weeks without having them. Practice while you watch TV. Heck, practice when you take your kids to the movies. Practice while you cook. Whenever you walk by a deck, pick it up, do one or two flourishes, and set it back down again.
By no means is it easy, but nothing is impossible.
It's funny how the web is dominated by the "younger" folk (25 and under) but I honestly believe that the vast majority of magicians (not just professionals), card manipulators, and card enthusiasts are well over the age of 30.
-
I feel old around here with all these youngsters running about.
-
I am 12, I love the cards and i love magic one thing i'll never get bored off!:)
-
I'm 19 and I honestly feel like more of an adult than most people I know who have already graduated college and gotten careers.

ROFL! Make sure to save that and read it again in a few years :P
-
Who are the 50 and up on here?
-

When compared to yourself, the older version is always better. Honestly though, have you seen some of these people? When I remember who I was at 14 I can honestly say I was a better human being in every sense of the word than at least some of the people I have a displeasure of knowing who are 20-30.
Some 13 year olds act 30, and some 30 year olds act 13 (see: man who baked baby in oven to teach it a lesson).
-

Wow... that's kinda implying (well, outright stating) that intentionally cooking a baby is something a regular 13 year old would do. Maybe some of the 13 year olds here wouldn't like that?
-
Ha! Nice catch - I meant to imply that some 30 year olds act worse than any 13 year old could. The cooking baby thing is an actual recent news story.

Yeah, it was a popular urban myth but I checked it on snopes and it's sadly happened more than once

Wow, a lot of teenagers here. I feel old, all of a sudden (I'm 24). Luckily I can sometimes be a tad immature so it balances out. :P

The day I turn 18, I'm going to buy a pack of cigarettes. I'm not gonna smoke them, and I will probably just throw them away. I will do it 'cause I can....which I know is really stupid, but I just think it will be funny.

Sell them to some freshmen in high school for triple the price. :)
Unrelated: Has anyone told you you're very mature for your age, Levi?

Nope. Your posts exude maturity. It's surprising to say the least. :)

Oh wow, thank you. I try my best, and love being helpful. And to think my profile picture on this discourse is totally contradictory to what you are saying.

19, Old enough to play poker here in Australia but not in USA ;)
-
I just turned to 21 today!
I'm olddddddd. Hahaha.
-
I turn 15..... next August.
-
Haritaipan, you're 21 and you feel that makes you old. I'm 41, but with the soul and mind of a teenager not old enough to drink OR drive, so in a sense, mentally, you are older than me.

Hey guys,
I'm 25, and now I feel like I'm too old to be collecting cards :P
-
Hey guys,
I'm 25, and now I feel like I'm too old to be collecting cards :P
Nonsense. Some of the most amazing collections I have seen have been from people over 40.
-
Hehe I know. It just seems that I started late.
I have a few decks that I bought 5 years ago but I really started collecting this year. Anyway, age doesn't mean anything around here ;)
-
20 almost 21.
-
13!!!!!! FTW now where tied with you old 21 year-olds. jk. :D
-

So - you're one of the other two guys in my age bracket! (Age 44 here...) We're pretty rare - tied for rarest with the 12 and under crowd as of this post.
Yes, us older folks do collect cards and do performances of magic, XCM or both. I didn't even start seriously with magic until Christmas Eve of last year, and my card collection started the same time.
-
Damn, and now I feel a bit ancient as well. 23.
-
21. Birthday coming up next month though.
-
so why all you old people here? lol if i stay active i will be joining the old 21 year olds in a few years :)
-
25 here...Turning 26 on Dec. 19th. I guess I'm old haha
-
Would you guys quit calling early twenties "old?" It's anything but! I'm doing things at forty-four that I wouldn't have dreamed of at 21. I have a girlfriend who's a genuine soulmate (and will possibly become my second wife sometime next year), I practice a martial art and plan on testing for my black belt in April, I learned how to be more of a real magician as opposed to someone who knows how to fiddle with a stripper deck, I volunteer in a hospital and entertain the pediatric patients...
...and my life is maybe, but probably not quite, only HALF-WAY over, assuming I die of natural causes.
I've never been as happy and fulfilled in my entire life as I am now. I know there's some kidding around going on, but you make someone my age sound like a member of the "Over-the-Hill Gang" when I'm not even close to being so. (OK, closer than most of you, but still...)
::)
-
Heh, way to put it into perspective. Really though, at 23, I'm actually jealous of the people on this board that are 12-15. I didn't start performing magic until I was 19. I wish I had the jump start on it that some of the people here do. I wish I had started when I was in High School. I'm looking back and imagining the fun I could have had with it had I been a performer while I was still in school.

Can you blame them though? Think back to when you were 12. When you met an 18-25 year old, it was like meeting your dad's friend.
I'm at that odd age right now where many of my dad's friends are the age that my friends are. I hang out with 30 year olds, and my dad hangs out with 28 year olds. It's awkward to say the least.
-
I'm 17 and I constantly use the phrase "Kids these days..."
Still - I remember the time when ellusionist released Bike Masters. That makes me feel oh so old.

Well, look at me - I started less than a year ago! I wish I started when YOU did!

Actually, until I got older myself I always hung out with older friends. My second steady girlfriend was just over twice my age! That doesn't bother me. It's when I check out nightclubs I used to go to and I'm just about the oldest living being in the room that I start to feel awkward...
;)

Wow, that is ancient! My first E deck release that I witnessed was Artifice! (hee hee hee hee!)
-

I completely get what you're saying, but I'm a bad example. When I was 12 I DID hang out with my dad's friends, to the point where they became my friends. Now, at 23, I have friends still in high school, and I have friends my age, but the majority of my friends age between 30-50 (and boy do they love watching me perform!).
I think the older you are, the more you lose that feeling of wonderment you had as a young child, and the more you tend to appreciate magic.
-
I'm 17 and I constantly use the phrase "Kids these days..."
Kids these days...
I'm 19. Since just a couple days ago. Getting used to the new number.

squeee... I'm 22.. :P But still act like I'm 16. ???

Your posts alone contain more memes than I've seen on the whole forum so far...
...And it's pretty damn awesome. ::)
Age is overrated to a certain extent. There's exceptions in every age group, but there's always the average that stands out.

Plus they keep me from aging. I'll forever be feeling like I'm 16! Ahahaha!
-
Rather than feeling like I'm younger, I prefer telling myself that age is maturity, and the rest is only a matter of how mad you are. And we're all mad here.

i feel old in the fact that i am out of school. cant wait for june, i will be 19 :)

I feel like a young 38!
I got married to my college sweetheart right after graduating, divorced after a few years and moved to San Francisco.
After working for a great design firm in San Fran and meeting my wife, Susan, we decided to start a family and moved back to the midwest (I'm from Michigan). I get to work from home with the same San Fran firm and Susan is a stay-at-home mom. We've been in Indianapolis for almost 5 years and love it! We have a 4 year old girl, Violet and a 2 year old boy, Aaron. Like Good@Sabacc, I feel younger than I did over a decade ago!!
thanks, Randy

So what was it like, having a front-row seat to the SuperBowl hoopla? :))
-
So what was it like, having a front-row seat to the SuperBowl hoopla?
We live out in the 'burbs so it wasn't too crazy in our area. We went downtown last Sunday and checked out the Super Bowl Village and did the NFL Experience at the Convention Center. It was crazy! There were a ton of people everywhere, but it was a lot of fun. I thought it was packed for GenCon but that was nothing compared to the NFL Experience. My daughter got to meet some New Orleans Saints Cheerleaders so she was pretty giddy about that and my son just loved being able to throw around the football and goof off.
thanks, Randy
-
Judging from the photo, your daughter is a lucky, lucky girl... :))
-

Wow, I am certain that the surveys are accurate now :t11:

Wow - I'm no longer in the smallest age group anymore!
25th of August for me is a double-header: my 45th birthday and my second wedding. That way I have no excuse for ever forgetting our anniversary!
The blushing bride and I are really looking forward to it. We arrive in Fort Lauderdale on the 18th, return home on the 30th. My buddy's step-father is officiating over the ceremony - in Florida you only need to be a notary public.
-
Awww - You're getting married on your birth date. How lovely!
I really want to know who's older than 51 though.

Assuming no changes between now and August 25, 2017, I will enter the 51+ group, thus making it tied with <13 for smallest group...

As of yesterday, I had to change the category I am in! Just one of the joys of turning 21

at least you can start getting some old man strength
-
at least you can start getting some old man strength
Old man strength? I'm too far past my prime to expect too much improvement! Though I will say I have more muscle on my body now than when I was twenty or thirty years younger, largely due to martial arts.
-
old man strength defies physics. You don't need to be muscular to have old man strength, you just have it. The biggest 20 year olds are no match for any old guy with old man strength, regardless of his size
old man strength trumps all

considering you just learned about the term today and I've been using it for years, I think I'll go with my interpretation

The term might not have existed when I was younger, but old man strength did - it just never had a name. You just knew that the older guy stood better odds in a physical contest than the younger one, unless the younger guy was built like a pro linebacker.

DAE love the near perfect bell curve we have here?

44 I am in a very low percentile group
I'll turn 40 in August, so I'm creeping in on the 41-50 age bracket. Completely fine with that though. The 30's have been good and the 40's look to ge great!
Thanks, Randy

Well, look at it this way - since "40 is the new 20", Randy, you're merely 19, and David, you're only 24!

... and more good poster points for DON

I'm 23, I belong to the majority group. :)

28, well almost 29 in 1.5 months. Still land on the 4 th. group.

Dang, when I was 15, the only forums there were were De'vo's and Ellusionists.
Y'all so lucky. ToT

Adding one more to the 41-50 bracket...48 in November. One of my favorite quotes is "Growing old is madatory, growing up is optional" has served me well all these years! 8)

Makes me feel old. Just not old enough to fart dust yet.

I forgot I was 20 when this place opened, so I just got to change my category! :D

Hurray! How long do you think the bell curve will hold out? I hope we don't get an influx of younger members and the chart shifts to a decreasing trend. That will make Don feel even more like an old fart. :P

Actually, my category has grown dramatically since I signed up. When this topic was started, there were perhaps two, maybe three - now there's eleven.
Trivial fact: my age group makes up only about 8% of the people polled. I alone have created about 12% (correction, now it's 13.15%) of all the posts on this board - (more than) one out of every eight!

I'm 22 :)
@Phantom1412: I love your profile picture. O.O

LoL. See I am in that small group of seven over 51. Being older I collect older cards ;D
You'll hear more from me as I enter the Discourse world.

24 here, looks like I'm adding to the bell curve.

19 here. Its actually quite cool how the bell curve actually exists here. Its nice to see that we have all types of ages and outlooks in this forum.

It is curving more, but it's still a bit lopsided. The three top age segments are still ages 15-25, as they have been since the poll started. I do notice, however, significantly more older members than before.

22 here :bosswalk:

Mmm... feel muself as a dinosaur.. I'm 49 ;)

Yep, I feel like some sort of relic.............42 in a couple of weeks!!

After all this time, the Bell curve is finally shifting more noticeably - the median used to be younger and the curve itself has grown wider. In the early days, those teen groups were the biggest and it dropped off quickly from there - I was one of only two or three people in my (older) age group.
The hobby is maturing!
I should probably close this topic and start fresh - some of the entries are so old, the users who made them may or may not even be active members anymore!

Wow... never though i'd admit to being in the "geriatric" demographic of any group/club... but all of 53 tells me i am!... Oh well, Vintage is as Vintage collects... can anybody say AARP discount???... lmao... still warming up to Post-1920 decks....:-)
