Again, absolutely no disrespect intended...but the op states that I made this topic to give us a home to discuss "ALL things E"
Title: Re: Ellusionist (Magic/Cardistry Related)
Post by: Curt on October 23, 2011, 06:26:48 PM
I understand, but there is a separation of topic for a reason. "Magical Cardistry Bonanza" was created to people could talk about magic and cardisty, not decks. "Playing Card Plethora" was created to discuss playing cards. There need to be some level of organization to these forums, otherwise we might just as well have one giant thread. Thanks for understanding.

And unless you say "This trick is called Pure Smoke" there will be no way for them to find out what you used, and how it works.

The only way for someone else to know is if they were a magician themselves or did some serious google searching.

I think with out serious searching people might know that it's a device. But they won't know how it works.

I have never bought a single deck from Ellusionist. Wow, you may think, especially since I own all D&D products (except for S&M v1-5) and all currently available T11 products and 100 decks... I think they release great stuff, but they are a little expensive IMO.

In what way do you consider them expensive?  Their decks aren't outrageously priced and most have bulk discount pricing.  They have exactly three decks priced over $7, and none priced over $8.  They give away decks with the three-deck sampler and with a minimum $75 order.  Compared to most custom card makers, these are a bargain.  Hell, I can buy decks of Bicycle Masters for about the same price as Standard Bicycles in my area!  There I pay the shipping, here I pay the sales tax - it's close to the same thing.

I'm actually surprised you got the T11 products before the E. With the reputation they're getting these days, most people turn to E before going to other big companies. I mean their decks aren't more expensive than the ones from T11. AND I think they give better prizes (free gifts) if you make certain amount of purchases.

Though I think both customer services are satisfactory and they've both got some good products nevertheless.

I don't find their decks expensive. I find their magic products VERY expensive though. JMO
@sxjy0109 - actually I bought ALL of T11's products as soon as I got into collecting, before I even knew about their reputation.

Aren't the T11 magic products priced about the same?
You should get yourself some E decks, just to add to your collection. Nothing special about handling if you're a magician or flourisher, but it's got some good design and background to them.

There's a lot of good, reasonably priced videos that are only available from E, quality magic, and some sweet gaffs/tricks/gadgets as well.  Not all of it costs a fortune, either.  Many of the introductory-level discs made by Brad Christian are very reasonably priced and give you a good magic foundation to work from - I personally found them to be invaluable when first learning.

About decks, I personally thinks E decks' design is better than T11, The BC, or D&D.
However I collect all of those above.
E decks are really cool and elegant and professional, unlike some made easy decks by others.

About magic product, if I'm gonna choose my favorite, I'll choose depending on the magicians, not the company.

Pure Smoke is ok - I have a friend that used it to propose to his girl, it blew the room away to say the least, but, he told me it was a pain to wear all day. And there was things on it that broke on day one. He has ideas on how to modify it, which is no big deal since this is something all magicians should be willing to do, E already went thru the trouble of making a good product. But there are just not very up-front with some of there claims.

As far as Cards Go, I think Infinite is the best deck around, or Green Artifice. These are both cards you can use all the time on people are are cool enough to look at, without people asking too many questions about them. I personally enjoy the free "Master Series" Blue deck they give out too, I use them for practice the most because they feel a little better then regular card, but are basically free so I don't mind as much when they get damaged.

Have you tried contacting Jennifer at E?  I haven't seen them anywhere else - and they are cool!  If that fails, try an [ISO] thread in the STISO board.  I'd bet many people have them and haven't used them.

Hmm.  So far, the membership has potential but they haven't quite delivered the goods yet (figure of speech, I got everything in the kit!).  In time, we'll see.  Oh, there is that thing about getting first crack at everything that comes out for the life of you rmembership, and the built-in discount on orders...

If you're only doing it for the deck, it's not worth it unless you plan to resell all of them.  The price seems to be leveling out at around $50.

I'm in two minds now .. I use to be a magician first, then collector, but it's kind of th other way around now mainly due to work commitments - there was days I use to work 15/16 hour days for consecutive amount of days, then there was th olympics, and then between september n dec I was busy again workin stupid hours .. ANYWAY, I'm in two minds because although membership would be amazing with all th stuff you get, it's the shipping to th UK from them that's really gona kill me off .. during their holiday giveaway, I bought multiple items which cost me about $40 (£25) shipping PLUS I had to pay customs $75 (£47)

I'll be feeling some of the love when the new LTDs come out over the coming week...  :))

See, that's the thing there - Ellusionist is not just a playing card company.  They sell magic, and lots of it.  There's some freebie downloads that come with the membership, and there's that discount on everything in the shop (which I think could have been larger, personally) including cards as well as magic.  It's really more for the magician than the card collector.

The Halo is kind of silly, really.  I thought it would be a lot more interesting than it actually is.  It's too dim for any condition other than total darkness, and who performs magic in total darkness?  "Here ya go, ladies and gents, just put on these night-vision goggles..."  :))  It's more of a toy than even a fashion accessory.  I rank it with X-ray Specs in the category of "things that looked a lot cooler in the ad than they are in the real world."

The best I can come up with is "Wait, I'm not ready..."  Turn it on...  "Now I'm 'red-E'..."  Kinda cheesy.

I don't understand the appeal of the black club. Seems a lot of money to pay for the privilege of being able to spend your money 72 hours earlier than everybody else. I know you get other benefits too (the main ones for me being the 5%(!) discount and cheap black club decks) but it just feels like another way to get money out of us for very little return.

I haven't sorted them all out yet in terms of what I want versus what I already have.

Don't count on that list changing too much with new releases, if at all.  The selection is limited for a reason, and most of the downloads on the list have been in release for a good while.

I'm thinking I sift through and try getting "multi-trick" downloads - more bang for the buck, as it were.

Well, the heads-up we get is only 24 hours.  But if it's a hot item, the odds of getting shut out by server overload are slim to none.  The discount could be better, yes - but I think it stacks with other discounts, something the coupon codes don't do, and those codes are one-shot deals while the Black Club discount lasts as long as you're a member and is automatic - you only have to be logged in first.  The free swag was cool, and there was a good deal of cool stuff available that were exclusives for Black Club members only, but the best stuff sold out fast, leaving the rest of us waiting for them to return to stock - we can request email alerts for when that happens, so we don't have to obsessively check the website all the time.  Then there's the downloads - not too shabby, though they are mostly older.

Let me think on this a moment...

A free Black Club deck: retail is $18.
The typical price of any given BC download is about $9.95 (they range from $4.95 to $14.95), so that times three is $29.85
There's the box: retail is not applicable, but it sold on eBay for $40 recently.  Say it's only $20.
And a free Halo: $16.97

That's a total of $84.82, plus a 5% discount for the remainder of your membership.  If you bought just under $1,250 of merchandise over the year, your membership will have paid for itself.  For some, that's a tall order - for others, they spend about that much or more anyway.

If you bought a fair amount of merchandise to start with, it's a good deal.   Even if you don't hit the break-even point, having access to some of the exclusives is worth it for some people.

Email sent from brad in because no one has received. An apology and an update :)

"A Note from Brad Christian

First off, I want to apologize. Part of the perks of being in the Exclusive Black Club is a 24 hour Early Boarding that gives you early access to our new and best products. The Early Boarding email was meant to hit your mailboxes yesterday and due to an email glitch on our end never made it there. For that I am truly sorry. However, I'm sure you have been on the receiving end of some empty apologies. So, we'd like to make up for it.

This isn't an empty apology, and to prove it we are DOUBLING your discount to 10%. We've never done this before and we think it is a pretty great opportunity to get that new deck, trick, or WHATEVER you want!

This offer is good until 11:59 PM PST on Wednesday March 27th.

Fortunately the error has been fixed and this won't happen in the future, so you don't have to worry about this happening again. For now, I highly recommend you take a look at the new downloads by Daniel Madison and Gianni Vox. Both are amazing. I haven't been fooled this hard in a long time by Gianni Vox's new effect Revoke. With Chaos Theory, Daniel Madison delivers one of the most mind blowing versions of triumph I've ever come across, and it doesn't even require a table, it is all in the hands and with a NAMED card! Killer stuff.

I know you are going to love both of these new downloads and the next big release we have coming up is going to make your head spin. Keep an eye out for it.

Thanks again,

Brad."

About that I was a fool I didn't take some decks or somethings else...I was thinking to wait Easter for a discount like Seasons (15%) or a gift, a rare or a new deck...Anyway, now I wait for white whatever will be (I think will be a white artifice deck and the last one ::) ), also to take another brick of Rounders.

I am in BC and I am sorry I didn't do that earlier. Like Don said, if you buy more, that will balance.
Can I ask here about this tricks? I can get three of them for free, but I didn't know what to download and I can't decide. http://www.ellusionist.com/subscription-downloads-1

Thank you!

Thank you!
I've been puzzling over that myself, actually.

Look at the videos and evaluate which ones look most impressive to you.

I'm deciding among a few videos:
Clipspin - looks AMAZING.
Ziplocked is cool.
Earbuds is pretty popular.
Royal Wave looks fun for poker night.
Fade intrigues me.
Slider Double is an awesome utility move you can incorporate into other tricks.
I already have all three Patrick Kun videos - they require some skill to pull off but are very impressive (except Mirror Force, which is more of a useful utility and not as difficult).
If you don't have it elsewhere, the Push-Off Double Lift is a very convincing move to have in your arsenal, one of the better lifts.
Collective EP by Eric Jones is a great three-for-one deal, especially if you want to expand a little beyond playing cards.  Entrapment also looks pretty nice.

I still need to put more thought into my decision...  Never seem to have the time...

Yep, Fade seems to be very interesting. I think there are three tricks combined...

who here has mastered Daniel Madison's chaos theory besides me? (and am I the only one that has to say "chaos theory" in his accent?)
