Title: A. Bandit Playing Cards
Post by: dmbaggs on February 01, 2012, 12:27:28 AM
So this deck has been out for a few months now, but we never really discussed it on here. It is one of the most interesting decks in my opinion. It's very nontraditional. Here's some pictures

The King of Spades and the King of Hearts are altered but for the most part it is normal.
From the makers of Bicycle, this deck was created by Derek DelGaudio with Artist Glenn Kaino. This deck features a custom designed back, jokers ace of spades and two kings. Only 2,000 of these were made and we only have a small supply.

I'd love to hear everybody's take on this one  :)

Meh, no face customization means a pass for me, but the back designs are neat!

Yeah the back design is pretty unique! The box is crazy too!!

I was always torn about this deck... Nothing about it really spoke to me, but I always considered picking one up just to have... Not crazy about the backs, alterations to the cards, box, or even the lock seal... The fact that only 2k were produced and they're still available in abundance probably tells me I made the right choice...

Available in abundance? I thought only BMP had them and he is sold out on ebay now (although I'm pretty sure he still has them on his website)

He may have pulled them from eBay because they were not selling well.  He's selling them at $10 a pop.

I did a little research on these a while back.  They were made to coincide with an art/performance show in LA.  Poke around on Google, if you're interested, you'll find it like I did.

EDIT: I got curious and looked again...

Yeah I actually did a lot of research before I posted this. Read some articles, looked at prices, watched a review. I was more just curious what everybody on here thought of them since they are such a unique deck.

Eh, they're OK.  More interesting if you actually caught the show, I think.  They're not very attractive, nor are they more than minimally customized beyond the coverups on those two kings.

The kings are cool and the box/backs of the cards is pretty awesome as well! I can see why people may not care for the deck though.

Also BMP's ebay store actually sold out of them. I had been following how many were in stock and it went from 4 decks to 2 decks and then they were sold out. I'm guess his website is the only place left to get them... I couldn't find any on ebay or other places. It's kind of hard to come by it seems.

Sidenote: I hear these handle incredibly!

Well, they're $10 a pack, so for a deck that's so rare, that's pretty friggin' cheap.  Maybe one of us should try a pack.  I'll think about it when I place my next BMPW order.

Yeah the price isn't bad, but these aren't super common I don't think. I haven't heard of anybody on the Discourse having this one. Also there is only one review on youtube about this deck as well.

I found that strange and was hoping some people on here might have the deck and could enlighten a little haha

I think the reason practically no one here has one is that they're not terribly exceptional-looking.  They may be the best performing cards this side of a Jerry's Nugget, but they're kind of blah looking.

The back is very cool but the court cards remind me of somethig Merz would do

Blimey... am I the only Discoursian to own an A. Bandit deck?  :o
I only got it a couple of weeks ago, and I'm unsure about whether or not to open it, so I can't say anything about the cards themselves. If I get enough people asking me, then I'll probably bite the bullet and open them, but for now I want to keep them sealed.

I hate to revive an old thread, but did anyone ever get a chance to handle these to confirm or deny how good they are? I'm not sure if I want to pick up one somewhere along the line but I love decks with unique or really good handling. I like the design on these for the most part, but the handling is what has me intrigued.

The handling is pretty good! I have a few decks. It's not incredible and I wouldn't call it unique, but it's not bad. I'm a big fan of the deck so I would say go for it, but you don't have to take my word for it haha.... here's a video review!

Gah I am so tempted to pick up one! I don't know exactly what it is, but something about this deck just really appeals to me. It's hard to pick my finger on exactly what it is though. With all the great new decks coming out soon it makes it that much harder to decide when you're card collecting on a budget!

Yeah the only problem is the price!! When I got my decks it was like 9 bucks per deck and that 12.50 a deck is pretty insane!! Although these decks seem hard to come by now, so I'm not too surprised.

Check this out:

http://abanditship.com/

The deck was designed specifically by a couple of performance artists based out of LA, to coincide with a show they put on.  Only 2,000 made, so yeah, the price of this deck is going up.

The design just wasn't enough to compel me to get it, though.  Still isn't.  I have countless decks that have decent-to-outstanding handling, so unless they're up there with Jerry's Nuggets, they need to be more than this art- and design-wise to spark my interest.
