just wanted to know if there is a specific number u have to use.

Generally, it's 52... for flourishing, there's no set number. What, did you think pressure fans didn't work with 50 cards or something? I don't really understand this.

no its because i thought you needed to use the jokers .

You can use the jokers if you want, I like to use them. It really doesn't matter though, there are flourishes with only one card haha. You can invent whatever kind of flourish you want with however many cards really, but yes most people just use a standard deck of cards..

I really don't understand how you could think a set number of cards is required...
52 cards is what most people use, some like to include the jokers for a total of 54, and I know John uses one joker, for a total of 53, to make giant fans easier due to the odd number (If you know how to faro, you should understand why.)
I like to use 52 cards because jokers break the continuity of fans and spread IMO.

Yeah, the number of cards shouldn't matter. Heck, all I do is open up a deck, toss the ad cards, and start flourishing right away.
Or if you want, don't toss the ad cards. It depends entirely up to you.

When I started practising the thumb cut I found that a full deck was really difficult, so I halved it, and as I got better I added more cards until I was able pull it off with a full deck.
As has been said, there's no rules, it's up to you...

I too generally use half a pack and and as I get better and better, I add more until I get a full deck, just like dee1orean.

To each their own I guess. It depends entirely up to you. Both directions have their own ups and downs. If you want to go with the full deck approach, it may take longer to get used to it but when you do, it will be easier to perform flourishes that almost start the same way or have the same grip. If you decide to go with packets to start off with, you do get used to it faster but that also means you have to adjust everytime to increase the number of cards you use. There is no right or wrong here. Just go with what you're comfortable with. :)

it really depend on you .. i normally open a deck put the joker and ad card in a box and break the card in and start flourshing with it .. but if you are using deck that has reveal joker or reveal ad card like the karnival ad card and you might want to perform for people when you are flourshing outside then you can leave the joker and ad card in the deck .. what i normally do is bring 2 deck of card out 1 for flourshing and 1 for performing magic it really depend on you .. since i like to collect joker and ad card i normally dun leave it in the deck

i also remove the jokers and ad cards.
some people prefer to use less cards. it´s nothing wrong with it.
some people use a few cards more for practicing
so everything is a bit easier with 52 cards when performing.
or like already mentioned some use less cards to get used to new grips.
the deck i´m using at the moment the most (for flourishing ) has 48 cards.
because i don´t care anymore if i don´t find every single card after dropping them.
(there are quite a few cards under the sofa, bed etc. :D )
i had a phase were the deck just didn´t feel right to me if a card was missing.
i guess over the years i got less serious about flourishing. which feels better.

I generally use all except for the add cards and gaff cards but if I have decks with jokers missing I dont mind, as long as your not removing cards just to make it easier then 50 cards is fine, on the otherhand if your really struggling with a move, remove however many you want but always try to get back to a full deck if possible.

But it really doesn't matter how many cards you use. But I heard that if you want a wicked long anaconda you use upto 2 decks. :)

some people say that you might want to start with around 45 cards (for cuts) it makes the deck a lil bit smaller and easier to control, and as you move up you start adding cards. Id say just practice with a 52 card deck.

I never thought of that! I'll think about it when I actually learn the anaconda.
As for using less cards to start, it might be true for some moves, but I generally prefer to go with 52 cards anyway. I feel that if I start with less cards and get comfortable with that I'll have trouble re-adapting to a full deck later, and nobody wants that to happen.

the challenge would be if your hands are big enough for handle that much cards. Ahahah! My hands are pretty small. Even just with 52 cards its hard. :) but I think for guys i should be no problem. Bone Ho used around 2 decks during the ANACONDA vid. Also the Gambit thing on youtube also more the 52 cards. :)

I'd love to get my hands on the Anaconda DVD, but it's a bit hard to find for a reasonable price now. I wish I had been into cardistry back when it launched...

I think I have the DVD here somewhere lying around. Anaconda is not as hard as it seems. :) I think itd be easier for men since they hve a better cradle to catch the cards with. :P and men are generally taller. :P everyone is taller than me.... i'm only 5'0

Nah, my girlfriend's son is shorter... :P
Try using bridge-sized cards. Or go totally insane and try mini decks!
Could you imagine, being the first-ever flourisher to use minis? That would be incredible!
But seriously, there's a few female flourishers that use bridge-sized. There was one woman who even had two of her own flourishing decks made, both bridge-sized.

The problem with mini decks is that they're often much lower quality than their full-size counterparts - the ghost mini deck, for example, literally feels like it was cut out of plastic sheets, and even something as simple as a thumb fan can explode all over the place because it's so weird to handle. Not to mention they feel extremely stiff since they have the same thickness as normal cards for a much smaller size.
Krystle, if you don't need the DVD anymore, would you consider including it in a trade sometime? ;D

Ahahahaha!!!! yeah I remembered.. I think I have a video of Kensei trying to anaconda the mini deck I have to look for it though if I actually caught it on video. Pokersize is fine. I have flourishing with bridge sized decks. its so annoying hahahah! but yeah. :P

i try using half a deck to do the revolution cut and it is act much more easier with half a deck and not a full deck and for opener it is more easy with only 52 card
