Hey guys, I've been thinking about this and I would like to do it for some Halo 3 videos. Some videos I've seen just set up a Camera in-front of their screen but my room is too small for that and my screen is only a PC screen. Is there any other way to do this?
Thank for helping.
P.S. some people use a thing called Capture Cards and I looked them up and they are a bit expensive for me at the moment. So I don't want to get one of those until I know I really want to get into this stuff as well.

Yeah if you want a good quality video Im pretty sure a capture card is what you need. I haven't heard of any other means of doing this that are great. Im sure there is a USB or hdmi substitute though. I would google it to check out more alternatives

You can record to any device that has a video-in and video-out connection of some kind, if the video-in is compatible with the game machine and the video-out is compatible with the television. People used to make these captures using VCRs, in the pre-PC days.
From there, it's a matter of finding a device that will record digitally and either a) is a computer, b) can transfer files to a computer or c) can upload to YouTube directly.

Yeah, you can use a PVR or DVD recorder and then transfer the files to the PC. If you tried direct-in to the PC, you'd just get lots of lag and the game would be unplayable *unless you split the signal).

Capture cards are the way to go. They're a pretty good investment, so I would shell out the money for a half decent one at some point. Using a camera is definitely a big no-no if you want to have an audience of some kind.

DarkSydePhil has some ridiculous number number of subscribers (dozens of thousands) across many channels for his playthroughs and he exclusively uses a camera pointed at the TV. I do, too but I'm looking to buy a HDD PVR for direct capture.
