Title: Eco Card Clip (Closed)
Post by: Robert Butler on December 29, 2011, 09:04:26 AM
Hey Gang, I've been very busy in the background working on something that I feel I'm now ready to share.  While everyone else and there mother have been making decks, I've been working on a deck accessories that I'm calling the Eco Card Clip.  The Clip is different on many fronts and I hope that they will perhaps open the door to more unique design.

ECO Card Clip is made from Bamboo and is roughly 1/10 of an inch think to provide the durability needed to protect your deck without feeling bulky.  Bamboo is a very ridged wood and has been fabricated for many protective cases for many Apple products and has also been used to manufacture benches.  So the wood may seem unreliable for the job but bamboo is ridged and very dense. The clip will be available in two versions.  One clip will be available with a lacquer finish the will present a darker color while the other will have no finish and will maintain a natural look.  The lacquer will also provide and extra amount of durability to the wood.

I would love any feed back if you have any.  I will be working with prototypes over the next two weeks and hope to present those soon.  Thanks

Sounds great!  :D
I just hope that the price is less than $30 like the porper clips.

But anyways, I think the idea is genius and will become popular just like porpers.
Also, will it be able to bend like a porper clip?

I'd argue that for that since it's a Kickstarter project in all likeliness the price should be higher.

Then again you can do amazing things with Kickstarter rewards, like engraving and whatnot.

Yum, I'd totally get a nice, lacquered bamboo clip engraved with my name.

Not sure what that means, but bamboo is one of the most pliant woods ever - it's actually perfect for a card clip.

Sounds great! Looks AWESOME!! I'm pretty excited about this!

I don't have any card clips as of now. I've never been super interested in them, but I appreciate them and especially the design that goes into some of them. This one stands above the rest for me! I agree with Alex, I would expect it to be a little more expensive, but that's okay by me. I'm really looking forward to this!

Keep us updated  :)

I'm going to do a 10 clip pre release sell.  You can choose between the natural clip or the Lacquer finish.  Each one will have Eco Prototype laser cut into the front and will be numbered.  As said before I need to raise money for the prototypes so now we can benefit together.  Good luck & remember only 10 are available.

Cost per clip: 15.95 + shipping

Currently available: 10

Hey Gang! Today is the big day! The order is being placed for the Prototypes and I've got a lot planned for everyone who purchased one.  We are currently building a site to host our upcoming sale later this month and are working on art concepts for our first design.  Along with our official clips we have to hint we are also working with some amazing artists to produce special limited runs.

All hype aside I've been talking with the fabricator about the bamboo and its abilities to stand up to the job as a card clip.  We are taking every step possible to see that it is a success.  We are sizing it up to fit a standard Bicycle deck.  We are not currently releasing a Bee size due to the massive production rate of Bicycle and Aristocrat playing cards.  The bamboo is looking like it will have a flex ability to keep a grip on the deck.  Our main concern at the moment is making sure we get the measurements correct so that you get a snug fit without creating a need to force the cards in or out of the clip.  The next two weeks will be very critical.  I'll keep you posted.  For more information please be sure to follow our Twitter!

Thanks

Just a question about bamboo: I am not well versed in woods but I do know that it shrinks and expands depending on the climate and humidity. One the non-lacquered version, will this be an issue? In the climates of Florida, the clip may perform completely differently from climates like Arizona. Also, a sweaty pocket can have the same effect.

I suggest testing this with the prototype! :]

Uh, Alex - I think we ARE the testers!  Those of us who bought the prototypes, anyway...  Different regions of the world, different climates, different conditions.  We get to field-test the clip.

Very good question Alex and one I had not thought of.  I'll call up today to ask about it.  Good@Sabacc is right tho in saying, you are the testers.  But we will get around to that later  ;D
