David Blaine writes on Twitter
"Variety box coming tomorrow at noon. Only 250 units available"

Might have to crack open the wallet again...

Holy crap... 2 red lions decks..
and 2 out of the 4 special Bicycle split spades decks
-
Looks pretty sweet. No Tally Ho Splits Spades, though. It's possible, though unlikely, that one of those White Lions decks is a purple deck...
-
ya i for sure am going to try and get one of these.
does it tell what time its getting released. i know it said noon, but EST or what?
-
I like the shoe box thing they are coming in.
I'm going to say that this is going to be expensive...
$179+
What do you guys think?
-
o god i hope not that pricey. ill skip on it if its that much. im hoping for the 100-120 range. anymore than that ill pass because with shipping that will be pushing 150
-
$179 - hell, anything is possible... ;)
It's likely EST, since Blaine's a New Yorker.
-
Am I the only one that thinks that box looks wooden?
-
I WANT ONE!! but i can't order decks for another 6 months!! can some one order one for me and ill pay you later? around june?
-
Am I the only one that thinks that box looks wooden?
no, it looks more like a cardboard shoebox in a brick box shape, looks nice though
-

I figured it wasn't wood, but either way, I want it!
-
Uh oh....................I want this!
-
Wait, are there 50 or 250 available. The title and the first post are different.
-
I really want one too but will wait to see the price. Hopefully not more than $100.
-
There are only 250 available - It's going to be hard for me to pass on this, unless I can come up with like $200 in less than a day. I really like the idea, but I am going to have to harshly pass on this. Expect a price around the $150's.
-
AAH you beat me to it @CBJ
Anyway, I have no David Blaine decks but would really like them so I hope these aren't too expensive. I mostly want the Red Lions deck but having all of them would be great!
Anyone know what time zone there elease time is in?
-

Speculation is EST since Blaine lives in New York.

How are people suppose to deck decks at like 12pm, half of us are in school or college, the other half probably have 8-hour work days. Ah, I might of got it if I could, but I still won't be. I'll wait and see that Theory11 has to offer with their 11 releases.

Theory 11 has 11 releases coming out? I think you're mistaken.
I think they have 11 prizes

Maybe being sick isn't too bad after all! I may not go to school because I'm sick... so now I can get the Variety Box! :P
-
It's easy to come up with an excuse, but I've been having a clean record ever since.
@CBJ - They should be coming out with 11 release sometime this week. Zach mentioned it on one of this episodes of the Insider. Also they are having a contest with 11 prizes, the prizes that they will release later on. I have put up a thread on this somewhere on these forums.
-
I might pick up one, although to be honest nothing in there looks enticing other than the Rainbow Lions.
I wish it came with a deck of the original Split Spade Tally-Ho's.

Don't most 9-to-5 jobs and colleges have access to computers and the Internet these days? Where do you think "Cyber Monday" came from? And who here thinks "cyber" is sort of a dated term these days?
;)
It's worse for me - I work overnight and I'm usually asleep by noon. But not tomorrow...
I might pick up one, although to be honest nothing in there looks enticing other than the Rainbow Lions.
I wish it came with a deck of the original Split Spade Tally-Ho's.
Are we SURE there's rainbow decks in there? There's red White Lions deck boxes, but I can't tell from that photo if there's any rainbow/purple WL decks.
-

-
Cyber Monday is great because the sales last all throughout the day, where as this release will only stand for about an hour. Maybe two if we are lucky.
I wonder if he'll release v2's and v3's, hopefully, but maybe not.
There might be a purple one, there might not. I guess we will just have to buy one. It's like the AIP Bottle, we didn't know about the goodies until' we bought one/ he revealed it.

He could have just put another red deck in there so he can balance the order, just the like two blue White Lions. There's basically two of everything (almost). Also, what color is the deck in the middle row on the bottom?
-

Alex, I pm'd you

The Red Lions are also called "Rainbow" decks. On the bottom of all the red/purple decks it says "Limited First Edition Rainbow"
-
Also, what color is the deck in the middle row on the bottom?
It is just a blue deck of split spades in a sepia box.

Could you post a pic if possible?

It wouldn't be the first time something rare, out-of-print or otherwise unavailable was included in a special deal like this. Like, oh, perhaps the Vortex protodecks or something...

Wait so one of the red boxes is really a blue deck with UV sensitive paper?

[/quote] Thats what it sounds like to me! I don't think any of us knew that and I sure wasn't expecting it!
-
I don't think that's a bad price at all. I'm definitely getting one. :D
-
I don't own any DB decks and I really want the White Lions (Blue), White Lions (Red), and UV Lions.
So I will probably get it ..... but still not sure.
-

If I were you and I didn't own any of them and really wanted them.................this is your ultimate chance to finally have all of them! As long as you can afford it. I wouldn't let this one slip by.
-
Hmmmm. I really really want these, and I've always wanted to own David Blaine decks, and to buy each one individually would cost at least double this. I will try my hardest to get one for $100.
-
Wait, I'm so confused.
Does it say blue split spades in sepia boxes? Why?
-
So can we just assume that the release is EST?
I really want to know because that could be a deciding factor for some of us.
-

I would for now. I'd rather it be PST, that way I will e home for the release, but hopefully, if it is EST, I can convince my parents to pick me up a box.
-
Wait, I'm so confused.
Does it say blue split spades in sepia boxes? Why?
The blue split spades came in blue and sepia boxes. The ones in th sepia boxes were also blue backed.
-
Oh, ok. Thanks! I still think its weird how all of these decks are having limited editions.
-
Correct me if I am wrong but apparently they were going to produce a sepia split spades but decided against it. They had printed the tuck cases so they went ahead and filled them with blue. I also think I read somewhere the sepia split spades were meant for overseas markets (why I don't know) so more ended up overseas than in the US.
Back on topic....I hope I can get one of these variety boxes. I have a complete set of the Split Spades (even the prototypes!!!). Really hoping to get the Red Lions. Even though I still believe they will release them in the future...better to be safe than sorry! Though all of these varieties he is releasing (Rainbow, UV back..etc) is getting a little confusing. ???
-
I'm a little confused too haha. Not totally sure what the difference is between the two red and two blue white lions in the collection. I'm going to get this as well!! It's a great deal and I'll probably sell a few of the decks that I get that I already have. Should be an intense release.
Just out of curiosity, who is still in school? Isn't it holiday break?
-

The 2 White Lions (Blue) are the exact same. They're the ones that were released not too long ago.
There are also 2 White Lions (Red). One is the one that you would get in the AIP bottle, and are the same as the blue except for the color difference. The other White Lions (Red) is an Ultraviolet White Lion Decks. They are blue-backed White Lions printed on UV paper in a Rainbow Box.
Also, my school doesnt start winter break until friday :-\

I am really looking toward to the proto-decks. Although I am most likely wrong, I believe one of the Blue White Lions is normal, one is UB sensitive, one red one is normal, and one I the rainbow deck, but who knows.
Also, I'm still in school. My break starts this Saturday :P

Yeah, I am not as interesting in the protodecks as the white lions. I'll probably sell the protodecks if I score a box.
Really? How long is your break?
-
Not to get off topic but about 9 days.
Also, I have some strange premonition, that in the future, he may release a second variety box with more of his personal decks, and maybe the other prototypes.
-

Gotcha. Really? Does he have more decks from his personal inventory? I only know of these ones.

probably pick up 2 and sell one

I don't know about the overseas part, but the rest is generally correct.
I'm itching for this one because of much the same reason - I don't have those magic deck promos, but I do have the first three Split Spades runs, a blue White Lions and (coming soon) gaff cards for the red and blue Split Spades Lions. The price will be the big deciding factor. If it's cheap, it's going to disappear FAST, if it's expensive, I may get priced out of buying it, but if it's just right...

Not that anyone seriously needed confirmation of this, but I have a charge pending on my bank account from an earlier purchase from the website and the company name is given as "D BLAINE PRODUCTIONS NEW YORK NY" - so yes, the noon sale will be noon EST, in just under six hours...

-
Are the shipping prices from David Blaine to the U.S. high? I am getting 2 of the variety boxes and I'm hoping shipping isn't too bad.
-

{using psychology to try to eliminate the competition}
Yes, it's SUPER expensive, costs a fortune, might as well be shipping gold or something...
;)
-
uh its time but cant get it
-
I got it but right off the bat it said $150. I thought it was supposed to be $100??
-
Success!! I got one of these! How was everybody else's luck?
@knobz same for me and then I reloaded the browser quickly and it came up as $100! Hurry
-
Oh wow. Just seen what happened. I have had such lucky week this week. (sigh)

YES! I got 1 for $100!
Im very glad I ordered it.
-
I still see them for 100 and I can add it to my cart. Knobz, I'm sure you can still get one if you hurry!!! :D
-
Nope. When you go to checkout with either the $100 or $150 offer, now they're BOTH sold out.
I think even when $100 appeared after the sale, when people were already getting $150, it was already too late.
-
i thought the $100 tier was sold out within a minute or two.
-
I still see them for 100 and I can add it to my cart. Knobz, I'm sure you can still get one if you hurry!!! :D
I already got 2. But I was so fast at getting them the only availave option for me was the $150 price level. So I immediately bought them. After I bought them I went back to the website and saw the $100 price level was there. The one time I am quick to the punch and I still get burned. Been a bad week so far for me and it aint over yet :-\
-

I'm still making it all the way through without getting any soldout information... Also I've refreshed the page and I still see it there.
Okay... now it's sold out. I made a second order a couple of seconds ago and got another for $100
-
i thought the $100 tier was sold out within a minute or two.
It glitched out, it is back now with 12 boxes left as of 12:12.

I just tried both the $150 and the $100 and they're both sold out.
-
Got one at the $100 mark was going to get two but with all the previous purchases, my wallet couldn't handle it.
-
Very fast.
Glad that I got 1.
But shipping is crazy. $44.75!
-
I got one at the $150 price point.
My wife got it for me.. She's awesome!

Thats because its a whole brick and its international shipping.

i got two at 100 dollars going to sell one how much do u guys reckon they can pick up for?
-
I was really happy with the shipping prices! Mine was $9.44 for UPS Priority Mail.
I couldn't be happier!
-
i got two at 100 dollars going to sell one how much do u guys reckon they can pick up for?
Well, more than $150 since the later ones went for that much. I'm sure you'll see them going on ebay for anywhere from $175-200
-
only? i was hoping for more sigh*

I'm thinking $200-$300 because people want to double their money at the least.

Mine was $21 to Canada.. I am happy with that as well
-

Well you must be patient haha they will become more valuable over time. I was just listing off what I think they might go for when we see the first couple of listings on ebay.
@ezstreet yeah people will want more, and we will see higher listings im sure. BUT there are people who usually look for a little gain. If you buy two at $100 dollars and sell one for $175 for example, then you only ended up spending/losing 25 bucks. See where I'm going?
-
yuh cept shipping to aus is crazy and ebay also takes 10% doesnt it? ive never sold on ebay before this will be my first listing :)

I usually about $20-30 when buying a brick of cards.
Never $44.75
But at least I got the $100, so it's okay. I have no choice anyway.
-

He meant ebay takes 10% of the amount you sell the item for. But I don't think it is actually 10%

Fiuuh... I tried many times to purchase 2 sets on US100 but it always said that the stock was sold out, I change the quantity to 1, and I got it !!, How I wish I could get 2 sets, but at least I get one now with USD 44,5 Shipping cost.
I tried again to purchase another set but was sold out for both USD 100 and USD 150.
-
Im still seeing a few variety boxes still available on the website.
Where do you see that? Mine says they're all sold out
I just click on the $150 price level and add like 10 of them. And it says there are 4 left.

Oh, when you do that, its not an accurate amount

Knobz1! Remember what I said in this topic a few posts ago - LIMIT TWO. Placing any quantity above two won't give you an accurate number. You have to actually attempt to check out to determine if any are left, and it won't tell you if there's more than two remaining.
I'm just glad I got two, even if I had to pay the extra $100 to do it.
-
Even though the count might be unaccurate the numbers keep changing everytime you update the quantity. Im saying this might be because people have them in there cart but they havent finalized there order yet. Thats why the numbers wont change until its final. I checked the $150 price level a few minutes ago and it said 4. I just check right now and it says 2. So im thinking people are just taking there time finishing there order as long as they have them in there cart. Thats all im guessing at :-\

Before you posted this, I tried to add two to my cart. Worked fine. But when you go to the checkout, a message pops up telling you the item is sold out. Got the same result when just trying to check out with one in my cart. Doesn't matter which price point you use, the result is the same. I could put fifty zillion in my cart, but it doesn't mean anything until I try checking out.
Dawdling with a rare item in your cart will reduce your chances of still having it when you've finally checked out. Having it in your cart doesn't function like it does in a brick-and-mortar store - you can have it sold out from under you if you're slow about it.

Now It's completely sold out for both prices.....!!
So Fast !!

Where were you over forty-five minutes ago? Y'know, when they actually sold out? :)
This item was EXTREMELY RARE. If the Blue Crown can sell 5,000 Black Crown decks in under 35 minutes, did you honestly think it would take David Blaine a log time to sell 100 of these boxes?

You mean 250 boxes. ;)
-
You're right. I was remembering just the ones at the $100 price point - the ones that I never got a glimpse of until after they were gone.
Gave me an excuse for some new t-shirts and baseball caps!
-
Does anyone know how to tell the difference between the UV Red Lion and the regular Red Lion without opening them???
-
Since none of us are actually holding ours and Blaine wasn't offering Teleporter Express as a delivery option, I'd have to say, no, none of us knows yet...
;)

Well, with the Black Crowns, even though they have 5k in stock, they sold for about $10 each - People would be more likely to buy at that price point. If they were equally priced and equally numbered, I'd say the Lions might sell faster.

Actually they sold 250 variety boxes not 100 and at $100-$150 they could have taken longer to sell because not everyone can afford that much, especially at this time of the year, but in the end they did sell out rather quick, but with lots of glitches imo. I also had the issue with trying to buy 2 and being told there was -1 quantity or not enough stock but when I bought just 1 it worked, did they change the limit to 1 each? Did anyone manage to get 2? I thought I had lost out but in the end I lucked out and managed to get one, even if it was for $150 plus $28 shipping. Some of those decks will bring me a few bucks on Ebay for sure.

KPop, we aren't talking about "Lions" - we're talking about a Variety Box, with White Lions, Split Spades Lions, Bee Split Spades... Since I'm forced to guess which "Lions" you're referring to, I'll guess White Lions, in which case there are more Black Crowns than White Lions Series A Blue, or Series A Red, or both combined. And they weren't being sold individually at Tuesday's sale, so what exactly is your point? Please tell me you have a point...
Vmagic, someone beat you to it and corrected me! ;) But thanks.
I managed to buy two. The only hitch I found was trying to get the "purchasable" version of the product description page to load at noon. When it finally did, they were already going for $150 each. Did you pay $150 for yours? If so, it's not beyond possible that you bought the LAST one left, which is why you could only get one...
Hold off on selling them too quickly on Ebay. The market's going to be flooded with decks and sets for a while, so the price will be lower than when they're more scarce and unavailable. And while it's usually the case that, like a stolen car, sets like this sell for less than their individual parts in the aftermarket, it's entirely possible the opposite might be true - wait and see how the market shakes out and you might make a better profit.
Damn i wish i could`ve got one >:( and also 10.000 POST IN PLAYING CARD PLETHORA!!! :D :D
You and many other people, Aaron - and was yours the 10,000th?

I got an interesting question about the UV deck.
Is it the blue white lions in red box, or is it rather purple back deck in red box?
Because if the back is the same as the blue white lion then maybe we could just out the blue white lion in red box ourselves.(If we have the red box)

Here's the entire description, which is still up at the site:

The box includes Ultraviolet White Lion Decks for the first time. These rare collector's decks are blue-backed White Lions printed on UV paper in a Rainbow Box. Also for the first and only time, Red Series A White Lions decks are included. They will not be available for sale outside of these Collector's Boxes.
The set also includes a Sample Stripper Deck and a Sample Marked Deck, Casino B Cards (Black and White Label), two Blue White Lions, two blue decks in Sepia boxes from David's personal stash, one Blue Split Spades Deck, and one Red Split Spades Deck.
Limit 2 per customer.

Based on this description, the UV decks are blue-backed in a "rainbow" (red-backed) box.
If I had to guess, it sounds like he revived the UV500 stock for this release, or that USPC found a similar stock that costs less.

I received my DB Variety Box today! That shipping was fast!!!
I opened it up and it is beautiful! The box that it comes in is high quality and really nice looking.
The decks... are awesome!
I was looking at the 2 White Lions (Red) and trying to figure out which one was the rainbow one. But I didn't see any differences in the box. On the bottom of the boxes, it says "Limited 1st Edition Rainbow"... but they BOTH say that!
Video coming soon!

Yep i was waiting all day to get # 10,000 8)

@Sabacc - When I quoted the Lions, I was just shortening the name for the entire variety box. When I said the Lions, I was referring to the White Lions (Red & Blue), the Split Spades (Lions), and just about everything else in the box. My point was that if the variety box and the Black Crowns were numbered and priced the same, I'd say the boxes would have sold out faster. Sorry for the misconception.
-
I think I figured out the difference between the White Lions (red) and White Lions (UV) WITHOUT opening them!
One of them has little black dot on the seal which looks like it was from a sharpie and the other one has no dot!
-

So anyone who received the (Red) white lions from the AIP bottle, could you please post a picture of the extra deck you got.
Also this is the same with mine. Coincidence? Perhaps. Answer to the mystery? Perhaps, guess we wont know 100% until someone opens one.

Gang, I have a question for you...
Have you ever seen the phrase "David Blaine Variety Box" abbreviated as "Lions"? Anywhere? At any time, present, past or future? Except from KPop, naturally...
KPop, you're trying to compare nearly a dozen different decks of wildly varying value and rarity to a single deck release of a known value and rarity from another company. And using abbreviations that no one else is familiar with, thus rendering the point of using an abbreviation useless. And stating that had your suggested conditions been met, the Variety Boxes would have sold faster than the Black Crowns - when they already did...
Forgive me if this makes absolutely no sense to me. Or at least no more sense than me telling you that if the oranges were apple-shaped, banana-colored and sold using pink Hyundai Excels and Bic pens at the cocktail operation under the baboon house for ten lemon-flavored truguts each, I'd be able to triple my depreciation AND be left holding a Royal Fizzbin. Excelsior! So get out there, kick the tires, light the candles and roll the pig in margarine shrapnel, OK? Happy Renaissance and never mind the bollocks. Baka ne! Fierfek! Oh, frak... Hide the skifter! We're still ululating blue milk under the YT-1300. Gesundheit.
That's EXACTLY how clear and understandable many of your statements are.
;) ??? :o :) ;D :'( ::) :( >:( :D :-X :-* :P 8) :-\
Now, on to a real topic of discussion...
Regarding the "rainbow" series White Lions, here's what we know:
There are three models known so far, all packaged in White Lions Series A Red boxes:
1) the red WLs
2) the purple WLs, likely with varying shades since it appears to be done during the transition between blue and red backs on the press, and
2) the blue WLs printed on UV stock.
Models 1) and 2) were sold with the AIP bottle. The AIP contained 1), while the box it came with had 1) and an autographed 2).
The Variety Box was sold with 1) and 3). One of these models is mentioned to have a black marker dot on the deck seal. If forced to guess, I'd say it was 3), but I don't know.
Until we see 1) from the AIP set and 1) and 3) from the Variety Box all together, we won't know which ones are 1) and which remaining one is 3).
2) is easily identified, since it's signed - unless Blaine signed either of the Rainbow WLs from the Variety Box. But that doesn't appear to be the case or someone (like MagicAddictz) would have said something.
Sound about right, people?
-
In my comment, I wasn't trying to counteract your post, I was just trying to support the fact that the "Lions" (a.k.a. Variety Box) would have sold out faster than the Black Crowns... which they did.
P.S. It's up to me what kind of abbreviations I want to use, as long as they make sense to me and make sense to other members. It's like the creator of "LOL" using it when other people did not know what he meant. He had to explain it then to his peers for future reference, which was what I was doing when you asked. Besides what else could I possibly be talking about on this thread. If I were to talk about the single decked Lions, I would have posted that on another thread if it was relevant.

Yep that sounds right. Now the only question remaining is... Who is going to open all 3 of the said (Red) white lions decks to prove which deck is which.
*Side note*
I don't own an AIP bottle, but if it is possible for Jaime D. Grant to take a deck and shove it into a milk bottle. Whose to say he couldn't open the cellophane, put a marker dot on the seal, and reseal the deck so it looks like it was never opened.

It's like I verbified tomorrow, if you plant the steering wheel in the pomegranate concrete over rusting linoleum grapes. Did you grok?
See, I just used an entire sentence of "abbreviations." Abbreviations just like yours - abbreviations that only one person was privvy to the meaning of in advance. You could spend weeks looking at that and not know what the hell it means.
"LOL" is an ACRONYM of "Laugh Out Loud". "Lions" has little logical connection to the phrase "David Blaine Variety Box". Some of the decks in the box have "Lions" in the name, but not ALL of them. You might as well call them "cards", since it would be closer to accurate, if many times more vague. LOL was agreed upon by a group of people to mean Laugh Out Loud, and that group grew to include enough people and lasted enough years that it became accepted parlance. "Lions" you just made up yourself a few days ago and until I pointed it out, only you knew what it meant. If I look up LOL in a dictionary of abbreviations and acronyms that was written in the past ten years, it would be there, clearly defined and understood. If I looked up "Lions", your meaning for it would be nowhere in sight.
Your comparison of "LOL" and "Lions" is about as meaningful as a comparison of corkscrews and jellyfish. So, NO they DO NOT make sense to OTHER MEMBERS. Before you reinvent a language, get a firmer grasp on how it works, because right now, you're trying to "repair" English using a manual written in gobbledegook and a toolbox filled with low-yield explosives.
As far as "supporting" the fact that the Variety Box "would have sold out faster than the Black Crowns... which they did," your support is as meaningful as supporting the facts that sunlight is warm, fire is hot, water is wet and adding one to one does indeed give you two in total. You're "supporting" plainly obvious facts. Now, supporting Einstein's theory of relativity, or an argument counter to his theory, or a complete history of the US Playing Card Company - those would be accomplishments. But supporting things like "humans breathe air while they're alive" doesn't exact add much to the conversation.

The gaffs are part of a separate item for sale - the photos are combining the Variety Box with the Magician's Set with Magician's Cards. They've been out a while now - a two-pack set of red and blue Split Spades Lions, and gaff cards matched to the decks. For an extra $10, you can get the red deck autographed by Blaine. They're in his shop, check it out.

For me, I got the order confirmation shortly after the order. Then earlier yesterday I got the shipping confirmation (about an hour after they arrived at my house). Keep in mind, however, I'm not far from NY (where they originate from [I think]). I'm guessing that they don't send out the shipping confirmations until it's been out for a day--but like I said, I'm only guessing.

I am just going to search online for them cheaply. If I find some reasonably cheap, I will be sure to let you guys know.

I got the order confirmation right after I placed the order. And the next day, I had my Variety Box in my hands and an email confirming it shipped.

I recieved my box in the mail today. Everything was great but out of the 2 decks of the Bee Casinos 1 (the reverse white with the white seal) was opened. Did anyone recieve a sealed white seal bee casino?

Do you mean the seal was broken, or the cello was off?
-
seal was broken and the cello was torn off the top. In short someone had opened the deck.

Hmm that sounds odd, the only problem with my variety box at all was a small chunk of cello missing from one of the proto gaff split spade decks. If it bothers you, contact customer service, from what i hear they are excellent.
Also could you post a picture?
-
I can't post a picture right now...I'm at work. So Basically all of the decks in your variety box were sealed? Yeah I think I will contact them. I already have the Bee Casino set. It orginally came with the white inverted sealed with the cello off signed by DB. I thought it might have something to do with that.
I will tell everyone this. I have a complete set of the proto decks. They are all sealed very badly and most of the seals aren't on straight. I think they just threw these protos together as demonstration models. The ones I recieved in my box are the same as the set I already have.
-
i think they're just overwhelmed right now. i got a confirmation email for my order but no shipment confirmation so i dunno if they shipped to me yet. i am in canada so that might have something to do with it. they also havent refunded some of the shipping fees that they said they would be refunding. from what i know, it seems like there was a glitch in the set up where the box sets were released for 150 before the 100 dollar ones were released and not the other way around. that has caused some confusion. in the end it doesnt matter to me as long as i get the sets. they look very nice.

Because sometimes, my custom does open the deck.

yeah I'm in the united states. I sent them an email...so we shall see.

If you haven't figured it out by now, you never will. If you want to comment along these lines any further, take it where it belongs - the Lol-A-Query-Um. You're wasting the other readers' time.
yeah I'm in the united states. I sent them an email...so we shall see.
That's definitely not SOP to send a deck that's got a broken seal. The cellophane off is normal for a signed deck, but the decks I've ever received from DB, signed or not, always had intact paper deck seals.
Keep us posted on how this shakes out - I'm curious to know.
I'm crossing my fingers that mine are waiting for me at the post office. They shipped Wednesday and my mailing address is just barely outside city limits so the delivery time should be fast.

I will add this....The brick box this came in is extremely well made, compared to some of the other custom brick boxes out there. I have the Fulton's, S&M V6, and a D&D Variety boxes and this beats the others hands down. At 1st I thought this looked like a shoebox in the pictures but it is very well designed and sturdy. I give it 2 thumbs up!

They did an awesome job on the two-deck box for the gaff cards they're selling separate from the Variety Box, so I wasn't surprised to hear they did a quality piece of work on these.
-
I spotted this thread about an hour or so after these boxes went live. I'm so annoyed I didn't see it before!
Of course, this means I couldn't pick one up. The decks that I were really eager to get were the Red Lions (both editions) and the protodecks.
I know it's a long shot asking this so close after the release date, but if anyone happens to have picked up an extra one and wants to sell it on for a little extra, then just shoot me a message. I'd love to get one. Thanks.
-
All right. I've found someone willing to sell me their Variety Box! Although, they're selling it for $200. I honestly didn't expect it any cheaper; I think this is a pretty good deal. Unfortunately, with shipping, I'm looking at $250+. Do you guys think it's a good idea?
I haven't got any David Blaine's White Lions, or a Red Split Spades deck. Nor, of course, do I have the sample decks. And... nor do I have the Sepia Lions Split Spades, or the Bee Split Spades. So, I think that's 10 out of the 12 decks that I do not yet own. So, I'm thinking this is a good deal. But I just want to check with you guys first, to see if anyone else agrees with me. Also, if anyone is going to sell one for cheaper than $200, this is a brilliant chance for you to dive in and get an immediate customer. ;)
-
curious to know, has anyone who had to have the set shipped internationally gotten any sort of shipping confirmation? im in canada and picked up 2 sets. i got the order confirmation but nothing about shipping.
-
@Lushbob, I think that is a great deal!! It's a little more expense, but not outrageous. Also you know that you are getting a quality product. You don't have to worry too much about getting scammed. Also the deal that David's website offered was insane!! That price for those decks?! I would argue that this deal you're looking at is also fantastic!!
Hopefully it all works out for you!

Also, if anyone is going to sell one for cheaper than $200, this is a brilliant chance for you to dive in and get an immediate customer. ;)
Think of it this way, Lushbob - what would it cost you to get all those spiffy decks (AND the unadvertised inclusion of the Split Spades Lions gaff cards in red and blue) separately? I'd say off the top of my head they'd cost you WAY more than the Variety Box. Aside from the purple "Rainbow" deck, the other two prototype gaff decks and the Tally Ho Split Spades, you have an entire DB collection in a single box - including one deck that's not available elsewhere.
I love my decks, but I'm a little displeased at the condition my boxes arrived in - both were damaged, at least a little, and it wasn't a postal problem since the exterior box they were shipped in was completely intact. One has a dented corner and the other has a gash along one edge. I'm planning on writing to DB customer service, perhaps later tonight.

I'm sorry to hear that man. That's a bummer. Especially when you bought 2 and they "both" ended up being damaged. Both of mine arrived fine. Keep us updated as to what customer service has to say. I'm intrigued.....

David Blaine customer support is freaking incredible. I'm sure try will help you out.

I still haven't got word back from them on my damaged Bee Casino deck. Although I'm willing to wait since it is Christmas (even people in the customer service industry have families :) ). I am still interested in knowing if anyone elses deck came opened.

All of mine came sealed. I'm sure their customer support will contact you after the new year.

Right now its hard to put a value on decks for the future (IMO). For instance...I shot Lance Miller an email asking him when he thought the colored Actuators would be ready. Lance says they still have 15 decks in line before the Actuators are printed. In case eveyone didn't already know, the market is literally flooded with decks. I personally think some of the older decks will hold their value much better than some of the newer "limited run decks". Take Baseball cards for instance. Newer inserts nearly always sky rocket in price every year. After a year or 2 they decline in value because guess what? There are newer inserts. On the other hand, A Mickey Mantle rookie card will always be a Mickey Mantle rookie card!

There's a lot of truth to that. Stuff that's considered hot as lava now can be cold as ice in a year or two. And yes, a Mantle rookie card will always be a Mantle rookie card. But look at what's considered the most valued and one of the rarest cards out there: the 1909 T206 Honus Wagner card. Somewhere between 50 and 75 are known to exist. They're worth a small fortune each - the best condition ones have sold for nearly $3,000,000. Now, you have to ask yourself - who the hell is Honus Wagner? He wasn't a very well-known player, but that card, a premium given away with packs of tobacco, had a shorter-than-normal print run because Wagner insisted the company stop using his image to promote tobacco. So because this guy had qualms about promoting a product he found repugnant, his card is worth multiples of what a Mantle rookie card is worth!
In the end, it's not just what's hot now and what's not hot tomorrow. Sure, they factor in, but there's beauty to factor in, ultimate rarity over time, and all kinds of other factors that can't be accounted for today. We practically laugh at the lowly Bicycle Rider Back, but if you had one pack from the first print run made in 1887, even in used condition and missing the box and jokers, nobody would be laughing at that! They were printed in large quantities, but very few exist - playing cards, like baseball cards, are ephemera; temporary objects not meant to last forever.
Even (and I dread the thought) a lame-assed Merz67 deck could become the Honus Wagner card of the year 2111...

Which older decks would you guys consider to always be the ones to hold thier value? Are we talking like Jerry's Nuggets old? Or would White Centurions, Smoke and Mirror V1's, Black Ghost V1's etc.... fit in as well?

Some of the oldest, rarest and most valuable playing cards are nowhere on that list - they're museum pieces dating back centuries. We often talk about how a deck run of 5,000 is "limited" and "rare", when in fact, a deck from over a hundred years ago, printed in bulk but mostly used and discarded, can be even more rare - and sought after. A deck like a BG1E is a lot like the "Death of Superman" comic book - people knew it would be rare and snatched them up as investments. But take something more common, like the first strips of "The Yellow Kid", the world's first color comic strip, and very few copies remain intact, making them the real valuable ones.
You can't predict what tomorrow's market will consider valuable - if you could, you'd be working on Wall Street and not putzing around on this message board! ;)

Yes - same deck - white label Bee - was torn across the bottom. seal ripped, yet somehow still in cellophane.
Also missing half the cellophane on black gaff deck.
Contacted them - but no response yet.

Wait, the white deck was still sealed in cellophane, but appeared opened?
Y'know, those decks were intended for Blaine to use as his personal supply for performing. Is it possible that you got an actual, performance-used deck that was resealed for this variety box?
-
This is the top. The bottom is cut across (again, all in cellophane).

What the heck?!?! That's crazy the seal has been torn and yet it is still wrapped in cellophane.
-
Thats pretty crazy looking!!
@Sabacc I don't think that they were shipping used decks. Im pretty sure they're all new and unused (even though they were intended for Mr. Blaine, I don't think he actually sent used ones).
-
Yeah, that does look more like a manufacturing error - but that broken deck seal doesn't look right. The box damage says "caught in the assembly line, accidentally crushed," but that seal says "I've been opened and at least examined if not used." Cellophane doesn't mean much - you can buy a deck resealer online, so I imagine David Blaine Productions wouldn't have a lot of trouble coming up with one.
I'm looking forward to hearing where this goes.
-
I still haven't recieved word from Customer Service @davidblaine about my opened/damaged? deck. Anyone else that has this problem heard anything from them yet. I gave them some time after christmas...and I find it hard to believe they would take christmas through new years off. I guess I will contact them again if I haven't heard anything by this weekend! >:(
Ofcourse they might have to check with David himself....who knows he could have disappeared...HAHA! :D
-
I doubt they're off, but I don't think they're sitting around sipping cocoa and regaling each other with tales of how successful and easy the Variety Box launch was, either. They're probably up to their armpits in CS requests.
-
Got my answer from CS today. They are shipping me a new deck. You guys were right...They do have excellent CS!

Did you get to keep your open deck?
-
yes I get to keep the open deck (I'm assuming)....the email only sent their apologies and said they shipped me out a new deck today. Side note: If they get 249 emails tomorrow about open decks I'm guessing they are gonna start changing that policy...I explained in my email that I was more than happy to send them my opened deck and/or send pictures. They didn't ask for either one. Keep it honest everyone!

I still haven't heard back. Hopefully they'll replace mine too. Has anyone else had any issues with these?
-
hmm...they were supposed to issue me a partial refund on the shipping which they've yet to do. i wonder if they even shipped my order yet. i hope i get it soon.
-
anyone who requires international shipping got their confirmation yet?
-
i havent gotten mine yet.

I got shipping confirmation few days ago.
-
I haven't received the confirmation. I can't believe how fast some people received their variety boxes.
I have to admit.. I'm a little jealous. LOL
I also still have not received my order from when the Black Crowns were first released, and I haven't received my D&D order from the Fulton's release.
I'm really not impressed with these companies, and they'll say it's because I live in Canada..
BULLSH*T!
I order from other people in the States ALL the time and never have this kind of delay.
My wife ordered from BMPoker just before CHristmas and had it in her hands in 4-5 business days.
I've contacted The Blue Crown and Dan & Dave, and all they can say is that it's en route.
Pissed.

Get in their faces about it, seriously. You should have had that stuff by now. Make a stink. You moderate a popular board - you have influence! You're the media!! 8)

I was even nice enough to remove the pics of the new Blue Crown Deck when Kevin asked me to.
I even named dropped in my last e-mail to them...
"
Cristina,
I've been more than patient with The Blue Crown.
I would really like to know where my order is????
I wanted/needed it before Christmas, and it now seems like that is not going to happen.
I'm very upset.
Please let Kevin know it's CBJ from the forums.
Jason Rideout"
Because of New Years.. I really won't be able to do much till the 3rd now. But I might raise a stink then

LOL.. I just went out to the mailbox...
