Title: What deck is this?
Post by: phantom1412 on December 15, 2011, 02:33:31 AM

D&D posted a tutorial of a flourish called Ferris Trap.
And he used deck that I never saw it before.
Does anybody knows what deck it is?
(I don't mean that I wanna buy it, I'm just curious)

The back of the cards is the same pattern that is used on the back of the holiday contest tickets that came with my Fulton's... it must be a Dan and Dave thing. I'm not sure what it is exactly haha

Probably a 2012 deck you can expect released soon. That deck looks like it uses smooth finish.

Perhaps another CARC deck even.

I've been collecting some vintage bicycle decks, and this looks extremely like Design #4, Arizona Plaid.

I'm not sure of the colour back then, as Mrs. Robinson's handbook only indicates red and green or brown and blue. But I don't think it'll look anything like this.

However it surely seems like the design is a replicate. Possibly it's a reprint?

The deck box front reads "U.S. Regulation Playing Cards" and has a bottom-left to top-right diagonal line pattern of the four suit symbols.  It's all printed in gold and the box appears as though it may be matte-finish green.  "U.S. Regulation" is in printed capital letters, "Playing Cards" is in what looks like some kind of 17th- or 18th-century script.

I didn't get a good look at the box side, but it looks an awful lot like the "D & D Playing Cards" markings found on the sides of Smoke & Mirrors deck boxes.

I just looked at my holiday ticket thing from D&D and one of them has that design too!
The backed design looks very simple but really nice! The fronts dont look too nice though.
But I am hoping its a new D&D deck!

I think it is safe to assume this is a D&D deck. Now i wonder why they are releasing so many decks in such a short time.

Probably D&D are going to release this deck sometime in the new year. I guarantee it's going to be given out as one of the DOTM decks. It's kinda my kind of style. I'll be glad if they release some time in the next few months, by BA is taking a nosedive. :( P.S. It looks a lot like some Bee backs!

I actually checked out the whole video and the flourish he taught is actually a pretty neat and simple one. I have been doing the exact same one for a few months now, except I have been using my left thumb to guide the card. I can't decide which version is better, since with the extra thumb guiding the card it looks more complicated, while doing it with one handed is flashier.

I saw the vid yesterday . I'm thinking a new deck by D&D though. I love the look of it but sadly I don't have much use for a borderless deck and I don't really like to see them selling a new deck almost every week. It takes a toll on my wallet and brain thinking of which one to get. Hopefully they'll release it at a later date!

I don't really like the back design at all. I'm going to pass on this one if they do end up releasing it...

Also I doubt that they will end up naming it "U.S. Regulation Playing Cards" . That seems like a very non-Dan&Dave type of name. As far as simple decks go I would rather have some Bees or Bikes over this one. It's just not my cup of tea I guess.

It's actually what the box reads.  If it's not a D&D deck, then maybe it's a CARC deck - the twins are practically connected to CARC at the hip.  Either that or they found some other obscure artists in some corner of Europe or the US who are making designs "for their own personal use, never intended for sale, more precious than the gold fillings in your head, made on rare bat guano stock from Indonesia and printed by pygmy elves..."

I know that is what the box reads. I think that is just a statement about the cards like the stock, finish, printing location that is usually on the box

I have to disagree with you on this one.  A deck's brand name is typically what appears on the front of the box.  That was the ONLY printing on the front of this box.  "Playing Cards" was printed in a fancy faux-handwritten script in large print.  "U.S. Regulation" was immediately above in capitals.  That's all.  No other words on the box front.

While it isn't impossible that a deck box would be formatted differently than the standard - the Black Crown decks are a recent example - if that's the only text on the front, I can't imagine the deck would be named something else.  It's as if the USPC decided to make Bicycle playing cards in a box with just the words "Standard Playing Cards" on the front and the name Bicycle appearing somewhere less conspicuous or obvious.

The only other possibility is that this is a test deck with a working name and it may be released under a different name when it goes into production and hits the market.  I consider the chance of that to be slim.
