I must admit that I often do find myself buying/pledging for decks based more on their tuck than the cards themselves... I think there's a bit more that can be done with the tuck (like embossing, foiling, etc.) that makes it interesting to me... Plus even if you don't crack em open, you can still appreciate the tuck! =)

So, everyone paid their €20 for a pretty, pretty box?

I personally buy a deck for the cards inside.  Otherwise, that's all it is - a box.  It's a nice box, to be sure, but tells me nothing at all about the cards inside.  To buy the deck for the box alone would be like buying a Picasso or a Da Vinci for the shipping crate.

I don't see them.  Where are they?

I think you have to be one of their Elite Members (ie spent way too much money with them)...=(

The collector in me says I have to have these because they are obviously popular and there is demand. The other collector in me (Don) says I don't really like this design so it isn't worth getting. Internal conflict!

Wait, Don is in you?! =P

Sorry, couldn't resist...

I actually think these look pretty sweet! Struggle for me is whether international shipping on 1 deck makes sense...

I really like this idea and am quite a fan of the faces! The tuck box, on the other hand, I find completely underwhelming, and I don't particularly like the backs either...

Still, it's cool to see a deck featuring all the old school video games we used to play!

5
The lenticular on the tuckbox is a really cool idea!  Even if it's not perfect this time, it's cool that someone is trying something new!

Unfortunately, I'm not really into werewolves...=(

6
More decorative elements on the brick box  :D  :D  :D

 :)

I second that! =)

7
Quite interesting that it took that long to sell out... If I recall correctly his last few decks sold out in a matter of hours... I missed the last one because I woke up late! =P

Any thoughts as to why? More due to design/de'vo related stuff or more to do with the general market? Rampant and unfounded speculation is welcome! =P

I'm sure the delays with his previous project are a factor, but I must admit that the main reason I chose not to back this project is that I didn't see the value - $15/deck (not including international shipping) is just more than I'm willing to pay for a deck that while interesting, doesn't really grab me like some others have. Add to that the fact that embossing and bee stock are stretch goals (which are unlikely to be reached), and the lack of metallic inks/metallic finish on the tucks, and you have what I would consider a rather underwhelming project...

To be honest, given the designer, I would'be backed for a decent amount anyway if the price was more "reasonable", but these would end up being more expensive than anything other than perhaps the very limited type of decks like Yusi's gilded decks or whatever... So...decided to pass this time.

I'm probably a member of the 2% club when it comes to money decks. I don't like them haha. They're just not my thing, I have some awaiting the occasion to gift them to the various peoples in my life who do like money decks. This looks like it may be interesting though. I'm going to keep an open mind when I see the campaign launch.

Looks a lot more colorful than the Fed52 series, no? Not sure if that's your thing or not... I personally think it looks interesting and am looking forward to seeing more!

So - I'm guessing it's NOT US currency...  :))

Nah it's still US currency... From the future after China calls in all the debt the US Treasury owes them and ends up owning the Treasury... =P

Just kidding - please don't start a flame war on politics or monetary policy - it really was just a joke! =P

I actually prefer the 1st design to the 2nd one... It's true that the King is perhaps disproportionately large, but I like the fact that the design overall is  less "busy" than the second design. There's still a lot of complexity and detail going on, but not overwhelmingly so as it is in the second design, IMO. I find that the background details in the 2nd design detract too much from the central/'main image...

Hey, in that last photo, was I the only one who noticed there's a finger sticking out of a TABLE?  Whoops...

Haha, you can see a forearm at the very top of the photo. It's not easy to see but it's there. ;)

Haha I was thinking the same thing as Don until I saw your post Fes! Scary floating thumb! =P

It's almost like the top tier was already sold out before the project even went live. I was refreshing like mad and the first screen that popped up with the project being live, also had the top tier sold out. Must be my slow 100 megabit directly to the provider work connection...

I guess that I'm a sucker for foil on cards!

It definitely sold out in a matter of seconds... I managed to click on it when it was 5 of 5 remaining, but at the next screen it was already sold out! Oh well...

15
43 decks left total.  Did anyone on these forums even bother ordering any?

I definitely did!

16
I'd still take that bet against long odds... =) You might be surprised how many Asians travel to the U.S. to gamble (or live there already)... Unfortunately we can't actually bet since we both have to be dead for the bet to be settled =P

17
I'd take a sizable bet against pretty long odds that table games will not be disappearing anytime soon... Have you seen the metrics from Asia?! And in particular Macau? Slots may make more margin but tables destroy them in terms of sheer volume. People like to have a tactile sense of what they're playing and, as has been pointed out, some distrust computers and the like and prefer to interact with real people and real cards. Baccarat probably sees more turnover than all the other casino games combined on a global basis...

18
Anyone also noticed a lot of gold and "fit for a king" is being used in E lately?

Yeah no doubt! Apparently DM is the self styled King... Or did someone else crown him when I wasn't paying attention? =P

19
Heh yeah my wife complains about my card collection all the time too!

Out of curiosity Don, how do you organize/display yours? Would love to see some pics!

You're 100% right there's nothing wrong with a simple campaign... On the other hand there's nothing wrong with a beautiful coin either ;-)

20
I second the idea that a coin would be nice to have!

Yeah I ordered mine over a month ago and haven't received them yet... To be fair mine is international shipping... Still though, have never waited this long for a package from the US... Almost 2 months now!

Yes, I contacted Lee who sent me to Steve Bowling <srbbowling'at'gmail.com>

He indicated:
"I apologize for the delay.  I am checking with our fulfillment company - two other orders submitted at the same time have not yet been received."
          Steve

I sent another ping a couple days ago but have not heard back. Please send your concerns to Steve.

I went ahead and ordered these Gold Edition decks, even though I still haven't received my "official" (silver?) decks from 52+ Jokers that I'd ordered a month ago. Has anyone else had any issues receiving their club editions? I've really been looking forward to getting my hands on these....

Like probably half the card collecting world, I'm looking to get my hands on some of those Red Gatorbacks...

I will trade up to 6 Green Gatorbacks for 3 Red Gatorbacks if anyone is interested...

I also have a whole bunch of other rare and not so rare decks - if you are looking for a deck or two to fill a gap in your collection, pls PM me and we'll see if we can work something out...

Finally, if you just want cash, I can do that too if the price isn't too crazy - name your price!

To be clear, I am looking for ideally 3 or more, up to 6 Red Gatorbacks.

I'm located in Hong Kong.

Thanks!

-Ed

That is one crazy looking tuck! Not necessarily in a bad way...=P

Well.. I will have to wait for somebody to pity me and sell me some red gators or go to the hell that is EBAY and get cancer out of the prices that we will see....

So mad...  :-[

That was my point a few posts prior. Don't pay reseller prices. Make them sit on the Red Gatorback. I know there are more Red Gatorbacks. Possibly as many as 1,500 to 4,000 more. We will see them again in one form or another. I would advise you wait.

I must be missing it somewhere, but where u get the info that there are more red gatorbacks sitting around somewhere in the Blaine's warehouse?

My guess is he is going off the assumption that USPCC won't print runs shorter than 5,000?

My order went through about 4:02p or 4:03p.  I got the order confirmation email at 4:04p.  So they definitely were available before 4:15p.

How many did you manage to get? Any interest to trade for greens? Or any other decks, or cash? PM me if so please...Would love to make a trade! Same applies to any other lucky person who got some reds! =)

I'm pretty disappointed with how this worked out too! Obviously Blaine can do what he wants with his cards and his store, but I'm still pretty disappointed by the way he chose to run this... I've been checking his site a coupla times a day since Black Friday in the hopes of getting some reds, and just like that, at apparently 5am in the morning where I am, they're sold out! I would've woken up for them if I'd known, but apparently it wouldn't have done any good! Darn...
